Vincent - Sierra

Good Bond

“Curious, don’t you think?” Vincent tilted his head at his sister. Sierra looked at him, one perfect eyebrow arched in question. “How of Father’s five biological children, four bare his hair color and only one his eyes.” Vincent looked away from her, frowning slightly. He had been the one to receive both hair and eye color. Edward, one of his two fraternal siblings, didn’t even have the slightest resemblance to Yami. At least Aeres had the black locks to vouch for her. Edward… Edward was everything Yami was not.

“Do you find this curious or irritating?” Sierra asked delicately. She moved to stand over her older brother, arms crossed, eyeing the small demon. He was right—he was the spiting image of their father. Even the way his mouth twisted slightly with thought, or the way his left eye twitched were all remarkably similar to their father.

“Irritating?” Vincent looked up, surprised. He rubbed his chin thoughtfully with one hand. “Frustrating, perhaps. But not irritating.” He sat back in the kitchen table chair and crossed one leg over the other. “It just seems odd. You, obviously, had no chance at inheriting Father’s crimson eyes since Papa is a full elf. Raif would be debatable, but because Uncle Ankei doesn’t have the gold-tinge, Papa’s theory is that he’s a pure elf. Obviously because I have these crimson eyes then that means my biological mother was a mixture of demon and elf.”

“Yeah…” Sierra reached up to scratch her head. “I’m following and all, Vincent… but I guess I’m not really understanding where you’re going with that. Are you just confused that out of us thirteen you’re the only one with red-eyes?”

Vincent fidgeted and behind the glint of his glasses Sierra couldn’t tell exactly what emotion was taunting him. However he slowly raised his head and the glint disappeared—revealing surprisingly gentle eyes.

“Sometimes I wonder what it would have been like if Aeres or Edward had been born as a demon too…” His gaze dropped again and he continued to fidget with his fingers. “Or if Papa and Father decided to adopt a demon child… I sometimes wonder why they never did…”

Sierra shrugged slightly. “Well. When those of us that were adopted it was usually under certain circumstances. I think that the only one of us that was adopted on a sheer whim was Perry. Though Perry was also a little batty as a child too, you know. He wasn’t exactly considered normal… so I guess that Daddy saw that. He probably saw himself in Perry when he had been that age. Lonely… a little disturbed…” Sierra smiled slightly, “Perry has always been a little strange growing up.”

And Sierra would know. Perry had been six when she was born. At first he had been curious with the thought of having a baby sister to ‘take care of’ and had actually lost a good deal of his violent temper. Eventually, though, returned to the conniving and manipulative behavior as she grew older. Sierra had unintentionally gotten herself in trouble more than once because of Perry’s scheming nature. It took her parents a few years to figure out who was really the culprit.

Their parents had always adopted the younger ones because of situations—and Flouresce as well. Most had either lost their families tragically or been abandoned. Yet, Vincent couldn’t help but think—how many children out there were demons who had been abandoned by their parents? It wasn’t a secret. A good majority of those demons born to what had thought to have been pure-blood families were either murdered in secret or abandoned to the elements. How had his parents not come across any of those children?

“Vincent?”

The little demon looked up, a little surprised at himself. His teeth were clenched together so badly that it actually hurt when he stopped. He licked his lips and let out a soft sigh. “I’m sorry, Sierra… I know I shouldn’t think too much into it.”

“Nah, Vincent. It’s fine to be upset or confused.” Sierra crossed her wrists and leaned her hands on her brother’s shoulder, letting her chin rest on top of them. “You know… Papa or Daddy wouldn’t mind if you asked them about it. ‘Cause Daddy always has a reason for everything. Papa… maybe not so much. He’ll probably write it off as purely coincidental. It’s usually not their aim to go out and adopt kids. It just… sort of happens.”

“Just sort of happens…” Vincent repeated her words slowly, as if trying them out for himself. He frowned thoughtfully.

There was a sudden explosion outside that made them both jump in fright. The siblings looked to each other and then raced to the door. Although Vincent had no fighting skills and Sierra was more or less a doctor, they knew that they’d protect their family with any means necessary.

However, when they threw open the door they realized that they had nothing to worry about. Standing in the middle of the manor, covered in ash (and completely unharmed), were Vyse and Scout. Both were laughing hysterically, but when Scout caught his older sibling’s disapproving stares he smiled and waved guiltily.

Vincent snorted with laughter and reached up to fix his glasses.

It seemed most unlikely that that their parents could predict what sort of children they would raise. The simplicity that was ethnicity suddenly seemed incredibly irrelevant.

A/N:Story bond 31/81 of a project I'm working on.

Although this is freakishly short, I think there's a lot more meaning to it then I let on. Vincent gets along with everyone but that doesn't mean that he doesn't have conflict with them. He's a smart guy with some pretty intelligent and deep thoughts. He just doesn't always enjoy fighting for his view-point. Sierra is someone he knows that he can relay his feelings to without being judged.

Sierra is pretty much a motherly-figure of all the kids. She's rather young the 8th oldest of thirteen but she still has the quality to her that just draws people.
