Vincent - Trinity

Good Bond

Vincent wasn’t always sure why he always returned here first, but Kaelin was always delighted that he did. The man had a certain energy that the plants around him absorbed. Even though Kaelin took the utmost care of the garden, whenever Vincent finished working in it everything seemed to bloom twice as beautiful. It was a strange thing, but he was pleased by it.

It wasn’t uncommon to see the scholar wearing dirty gardening clothes, but it was always amusing. He was so refined and intelligent wearing his suits with his little glasses perched so precariously on his nose. Not one strand of his shoulder-length black hair was ever out of place. Yet, when he threw on his gardening clothes he turned into someone completely different; disheveled hair, some dirt smudges here and there, his glasses always (somehow) slightly askew.

Vincent exhaled sharply, sitting back on his heels and wiping some sweat from his brow with his sleeve. His crimson gaze fell upon a passing butterfly that fluttered teasingly about his face before landing delicately on a hyssop. The young man smiled to the pretty little Monarch—had he been in his younger days he probably would have pounced on the poor thing to try and claim it as his own. Vincent shook his head, remembering such an event long ago when he was young and his father had gently scolded him for trying to keep one of nature’s most beautiful creatures as his own. He had learned a lot from his father.

Growing up with crimson eyes had started out hard, painful. When he was very young and had gone to the market with his brothers and sisters, people had been afraid of him—just him. He had never understood this until one day Yami and he went out together and the two were all but spit upon. It was then that Yami had delicately told him why.

And it was so simple—so simply stupid. Their eyes; they were red. That was all. The young Vincent had laughed and Yami had given him a puzzled look. “But, Daddy, that’s silly!” little Vincent had said. Yami thought for a moment before he too laughed and gladly agreed.

After that Vincent seemed to be able to unconsciously flatter everyone to his side. The young demon had something that his father lacked—charisma. The simple way that he made others smile and feel at ease when he entered a room was the major difference between Vincent and his father. Though Vincent couldn’t blame the Prince of Aurora—Yami had never learned to socialize properly. Vincent had not been hidden when he had been born with crimson eyes like Yami had, hidden away like some terrible secret.

Yes, he and his father had grown up very differently.

The butterfly fluttered away from the hyssop to land on another flower some ways away. Vincent stood quietly, resting one hand on the small of his back and twisting so that it cracked. Even though he was use to be bent over books and scribbling madly with theories and equations—the popping and snapping of his joints felt entirely different after a hard days work gardening… It was… more satisfying.

The crimson gaze caught his sister, Trinity, sitting so delicately in the same spot he seemed to always find her. The sun reflected off her white hair and it shone like snow (Vincent had seen snow before when he had been to Flanaria and he could safely say that he was not fond of the coldness). The young women’s gaze was far away as usual, her eyes half-lidded masking the perfect golden orbs, her lip slightly parted in quiet numbness.

“Hey-o, Trinity!” Vincent called, making his way towards her.

She slowly brought herself back from her own little world and upon seeing Vincent smiled gently, “Oh, hello, Vincent. I didn’t know you were visiting.”

“Yes, I got some time off from my research and decided to come visit the family for a few days.” He rested his hand on his hip, raising the other to shield his eyes as he gazed up into the cloudless blue sky, “It’s such a beautiful day. Perfect for gardening. I really hope you enjoy the flowers, Trinity.”

“Oh, yes. The garden is my favorite place… I don’t know where else I would go if we didn’t have it.” She said softly, inhaling deeply. She let out the breath gently. “I always love when you come to visit, I can honestly say the aromas are ten times more beautiful after you’ve cared for the garden.”

Vincent laughed, “That’s what everyone tells me. Perhaps I should have been a botanist?” The thought had occurred to him in all honesty. In fact, he was more of an apothecary if anything. His research was very valuable, as was his ability to seem to be able to ‘talk’ and understand plants. The young man reached up to brush some dirt from the front of his shirt absently. /Even though she says she loves the garden, she still has so much sadness. I wish I could find a way to make her smile a real smile./ Vincent mentally sighed and Trinity looked at him tenderly.

“You do make me smile, Vincent. I really do appreciate you and Papa working so hard on the flowers…” Vincent flushed darkly upon being reminded that his little sister could read his thoughts but she continued as if she didn’t notice ,”If I had the concentration I would try to help as well.”

“Haha, you don’t say?” The little demon rubbed the back of his head, “I think Papa enjoys working out here. So don’t worry about it. Besides, you make a magnificent center-piece for the garden—“ she laughed at this, “No, I’m serious! Father has had to chase more than one boy out of his garden—and I can assure you they weren’t goggling at any of these flowers.”

Trinity laughed shyly into her hand, actually blushing. It was sometimes hard to get a reaction out of her, but when she did show gentle emotions like these they were fitting for her. “Goodness, Vincent, you’re too sweet.”

Vincent smiled kindly in response while adjusting his glasses, which seemed to slip out of place again anyways.

“Oh, Miles is wondering where you are, Vincent.” Trinity said suddenly, blinking up at him. Vincent looked at her curiously, but knew he didn’t need to ask how she knew. The young woman smiled quietly before looking away, “You should probably seek him out, he wants to show you something.”

Vincent nodded, his gaze falling to the lush grass where he stood. “I see, thank you. I should probably go find him then.” He reached over, one hand guiding her chin towards him and placed a gentle kiss on her brow. “Have a good day, little sister.”

“Thank you, Vincent. You as well.”

She watched him go and smiled quietly after him, her gaze returning to a cluster of roses that she was sure had started to wilt under the powerful sun a few days earlier—but now they were blushing dark red and lustrous in all their natural beauty.

It was such a mysterious thing.

A/N:3/81 bonds now complete for my project!

I do have a deep fondness for Vincent.. Probably because he looks so much like Yami did when he was young and actually had short hair. Vincent is such a sweetheart and I like writing with him. He's fun e_e;

Trinity on the other hand, I don't have a set personality for. She's kind of spacey and distant so I suppose it's hard to give her a personality, but as I write more with her I think it'll start to develop more.

This garden is popular, if you haven't noticed. At least for the characters I keep pulling out. Seriously, first Flouresce twice and now Trinity twice? I'm starting to feel that my randomizing isn't very good.
