RPer: [
Kyrinn]
Character name: Vorn Khazad
Character setting: Slayers Universe (see: anime "The Slayers", which was translated into a d20 rp system. Magic, Sword play, and pistols as well as dealings with dragons, demons and gods). Sword and Sorcery.
Age: about 24
Race: Half Black Dragon / half human
Appearance: Lean and dexterous, Vorn has long black hair that comes to his hips, gray dragon eyes, and pale skin. He has irridescent dragon scales around his eyes and a long black scaled dragon's tale that is slightly prehensile in nature. Black draconic wings protrude from his shoulder blades and are able to fold over his shoulders to mask as a cloak over his long black coat. He dresses all in black, including a broadbrimmed black hat (think Vampire Hunter D type), and under his coat he hides two pistols on either side as well as a modified rifle with magic rounds. He also carries a sword with a magical blade but tends to have it just for show.
History: Vorn is not a happy person. he was abandoned at birth when his human mother saw his draconic features, or at least that was what he was told. Truth be told he had no idea what happened to his mother, just that his guardian told him she abandoned him when he was born. His guardian was a bounty hunter, so at least so Vorn thought, but he was not a good man and treated Vorn badly. Vorn hated him for that, and for his efforts, Vorn rewarded him with a knife in the back to get his freedom. Angry at the world, Vorn took any work he could. The job he liked the most was as a Bounty Hunter. Despite the magical world around them, Vorn felt rather alienated thanks to his obvious dragon attributes and used it to his advantage. He became comfortable with his profession, but eventually found himself with two others who were equally as strange as he was: Coal, a summoner of some kind and of questionable background, and Mitch, a spell caster of some power who came across as not human. He doesnt like them, but he stays with them anyway. Unknown to him (at least yet) Coal is a shape changed black dragon who is in all likely hood Vorn's father, but it isnt going to be a tearful reunion if it proves to be true.
[
NEW:] Vorn has since found out that the one who he knew as his guardian was in reality the evil mage they were trying to get rid of for some time, and it turned out this evil man was also his great, great grand father who had killed most of his family to gain magical power: His wife, his daughter, grand daughter, and great grand daughter. Only the great grand daughter was pregnant when he found her, living in a cabin and fairly well off. WHen Vorn was born he killed Vorn's mother and despite his dragon attributes Vorn was prized because he was the first male in his direct line. While it provided him some closure, it was bittersweet and left Vorn feeling vulnerable. Though he still doesnt know who his father is, he has altered his murderous ways slightly, still defending women and anyone who needs help but keeping himself separated.
Personality: Vorn is withdrawn and moody. He is also not opposed to bringing in his bounties dead rather than alive. He lives by his guns, and is always on guard. If you interest him in some way, you have earned a friend, of a sort, at least until the interest goes away. Give him a reason to trust you, and well, he will stay around, even if he claims you bore him. vorn pretends to not care about who his parents are but secretly he wishes to at least find one of them, if anything to give them a piece of his mind. Or quite possibly, a bullet between the eyes. Despite his murderous nature, Vorn considers any man who forces himself on a woman is scum to be killed and left in the mud. he will defend any woman in need, but has had (so far) no interest in trying to find one true love. Though now, he has been befriended by the Innkeeper's daughter in the town where he lives, and though its not romantic she and Vorn keep it between each other since Vorn is a very private man.
Occupation: Bounty Hunter
Abilities: Vorn's natural abilities are dragon breath, flight, and use of claws. Because of his profession Vorn has the ability of quick draw, silent draw, accurate shot, tracking, move silently. He is an expert marksman and is preparing for levels in assassin. He can go for long periods without food and water though he prefers not to. Also an escape artist as well as good at attacking with his long tail.
The interviewer, a young woman rather on the thin side slipped into the room. The rather heigh heels she wore to make herself taller made her seem even more disproportiona
tely thin. She had a black bag slung over her shoulder which, being open, could be seen to contain various folders and clipboards. "Vorn Khazad?" She asked, reading the name of a slip of yellow paper she held. "Hi, I'm Doctor Louisa Moore." She continued, looking up from the paper and scrunching it into a small ball in her hand, "I'm here to ask you a few questions about yourself if you don't mind." Her manner was professional, but not cold, and she gave a small smile as she took her seat, slipped her bag off her shoulder and delved into it for clipboard and pen.
Vorn looked up as he heard someone enter. He had taken a seat with his back to the wall, wings folded over his shoulders to keep them out of his way, his coat open but hiding his pistols from site. he knew where they were at all times, given his profession and the enemies he had made from that profession.
"Who wants to know?" he asked when she said his name in a question, lifting one eyebrow as she identified herself to him. He straightened up in the chair and put both feet on the floor. "Doctor, eh? Ask your questions, I dont have all day."
His gray dragon eyes watched her every move.
"Whereas I, of course, do have all day. In fact, I have all of today, and tomorrow, and the day after. Because there is nothing more important in my life than interviewing you." She replied, forgetting about finding her clipboard for a moment so that should grace Vorn with a stony stare that matched the dead-pan sarcasm in her voice, which suddenly was rather cold. "I assure you," she added after a moment, "that this process will be so much more painful than it needs to be if you're determined to be rude. I'm not asking you to be my best friend, or even nice, but some common courtesy will make things run a lot quicker and smoother. Understand?"
Vorn's eyes hardened at her words, the pupils dilating and showing more gray but he didnt move right away. Nor did he look away from those eyes as a slight smirk touched one corner of his mouth.
"Understood." He leaned forward slightly without breaking eye contact, resting a hand on his leg as he did so. "You have my attention for now. Ask your questions."
"Great." replied the Doctor, with a smile that didn't quite reach her eyes, which stared at Vorn for a moment longer before she finally resumed the act of pulling her clipboard out of her bag. She looked over it for a second or two, then she continued. "We'll get straight down to business then. I hear you travel with two others, but that you don't particularly like them. Why do you stay with them?"
Having stayed still the entire time she was analyzing the clip board, Vorn stiffened slightly at the mention of the two traveling companions he had.
"always them.." he muttered under his breath as he glared to the side, and with a huff he faced her again. "yes, I dont like them I dont make that a secret. It is.. complicated, to say the least. It started when we helped a village out, and decided to stay. I dont like what Coal has planned for it, and Mitch has laced his magic through the entire land."
He realised he was wandering off on a tangent and quickly straightened up, hiding his visible hand when he realised it was in a tight fist.
"I guess I dont know anything else, really.." he murmured, obviously not liking the answer he was giving. "I leave, and I come back. I still have a place to live in that town and.. probably the only friend Ive ever had lives there, and I cant just leave her. And to protect her from Coal, who cant seem to leave females alone, the creep." He made an angry snarl at the thought.
"But why don't you just take her with you and leave? Wouldn't that be less... aggravating?" asked Dr. Moore, crossing her legs, and leaning forward to rest her elbow on her knee and prop her chin with her hand. She held the clipboard in front of her in her other hand, and peered at Vorn over the top of it as she spoke.
Vorn looked up at her question but didnt answer immediately. He resisted toying with the frabric of his coat, his tail showing itself as he moved slightly in aggitation.
"Well.. she doesnt want to leave.." he shrugged slightly. "I dont expect her to leave everything she knows just to be with me. Im.. well, Im not the safest person for her to be around, my work is dangerous. And look at me. Im not exactly normal." He motioned to his tail.
"It is aggrivating." he admitted. It was quiet for a moment. "But Coal knows something, about my past, but I cant figure it out. Im going to find out, one way or another, if anything for closure. Meireen supports my feelings on it, she knows how much it bothers me."
he fidgetted. "And her father is protective of her." he murmured, trying to will the heat out of his face. "All the things I do for a living, and that man terrifies me. he might just look like any old innkeeper but the axe he keeps on the wall is well used. He's been around.."
"Surely in your line of work most of the people you encounter are dangerous, skilled with weapons, trickery and all sorts of things." Said the doctor, with an interested frown, deliberately not noticing, nor outwardly reacting to Vorn's blush. "Is a worn axe on a wall really enough to scare you? Or is there something else about this man that adds to your misgivings?" A twinkle crept into her eye that suggested she knew pursuing the issue may be embarrassing for Vorn.
Vorn glared very briefly at her before averting his eyes once more. he leaned back in the chair and though she couldnt see it, she could hear a 'tap-tap' sound from the back of his chair where his tail hid.
"Indeed. Yes, they are. Many of them left their own scars on me but I collected the price on their pitiful heads." he hissed, more irritated with himself than with her. If she had encountered him only a few months before, this 'interview' would have been over, he would have gotten up and stalked away, leaving questions unanswered. But still he sat there and though part of him really wanted to walk away, the rest told him that would not be appropriate. Afterall, she didnt appear to mean him any harm despite all his own instincts telling him not to trust her.
He bristled slightly at her words, however, shaking his head. "the man isnt afraid of anything, he could break me in half if he wanted to, and I couldnt stop him. I tried and failed to intimidate him.." he said. "Anything I do with Meireen, any time I spend with her, HE was present. And if he isnt there, he Knows Where we are." He blinked at that, reminded of the fact that even though the old man didnt appear to like him, he still tolerated him there. "Heh.. Despite the fact that he makes me uneasy, I know he shares my dislike of my two.. companions." he said the last word like it tasted bad then looked up at her.
"Is this questioning on your clipboard there?" he asked, more curious than irritated. "I would not be surprised if this interview was about them and not me.."
"No, the clipboard just has the notes we already had about you - age, name, occupation, etc." said Dr. Moore, letting the clipboard fall forward briefly in her hand so Vorn could see the notes on it. "Why would you suspect that the purpose of the interview would just be to find out about your friends?" she asked, faintly puzzled.
Vorn leaned back forward to squint at the clipboard, and once he saw she was right, he looked back up at her and shook his head.
"If you met them, Doctor, youd want to find out about them. Like their weaknesses. Neither of them make friends very easily, if at all. Hell, Id pay good money to find out if the information I have on them is true. At least for Coal."
"Or I could just stay well away from them." the Doctor pointed out, "I've managed it so far," she added with a smile. "No," she said, shaking her head and smiling, "the interview is definitely to find out more about you." She glanced down at the pad in her hand and took a brief moment to think before formulating her next question, "You make Coal and..." She glanced at the pad again, "...Mitch sound very dangerous. Yet, I presume you're not scared by them?"
Vorn smirked. "Probably best for you anyway." he said, inwardly thinking that he was starting to like this doctor. Just a bit. "No, Im not scared of them, though I think THEY think I am. Or they think I have no idea what they are."
he glanced around. "I know enough." he murmured. "I figured out early that both of them know magic, an area I do not understand. I know from experience that a Mage is not someone to take lightly, so I.. observe them."
He didnt hide a bit of a devilish look in his dragon eyes. "Plus I know Coal has a bounty on his head. Im waiting for the right moment to strike. Found out from a very reliable source what he truly is, and Ill get him."
"So you're playing the fool?" Dr. Moore asked, rhetorically, as she thought over what Vorn was telling her. "And you're confident that they don't see through this? That they're not sticking with you for exactly the same reason as you're sticking with them? So they can finish you off at an opportune moment?"
"In a manner of speaking, yes." Vorn answered simply. "they think I dont know much about them. They know I know a little bit, but they think Im not that smart. Mitch has all his magic that he thinks protects him and Coal thinks I have no idea what he does or what he is."
the smirk darkened.
"The thought has crossed my mind, doctor." he said quietly. "And I have taken precautions."
"What sort of precautions?" The doctor asked, curiously, looking at Vorn whilst she tried to think over for herself what sort of precautions one could take in Vorn's situation.
"not sure if I want to let on all Ive done." Vorn said carefully. "But I will say this. ANything that Coal has touched that is mine, Ive made sure he hasnt done anything to it to connect me to him. Same goes with Mitch. Since both of them are spell casters, I keep myself aware of any kind of wards they might have secretly put on me."
"Oooooooh," said the doctor, nodding her head in understanding. She mused quietly to herself for a moment then, quite out of the blue, as if she had only just noticed the length of his hair, she smiled and asked, "doesn't your hair get in the way? Isn't it a nuisance?"
"Hm?" Vorn was surprised by the question, and taking up a bit of his long hair that had found its way over his shoulder he looked at it. "Hadnt.. thought of that before, actually. usually my wings keep it back, I guess. I dont rightly know."
"I guess I've never really considered the merit of wings as a use of controlling ones hair," the doctor said with a smile. Then she glanced at her watch. "Unfortunately, we're out of time," she said, already fumbling to slip the clipboard back into her bag as she stood, "enjoy the rest of your day," she added, with an almost cheeky smile.
Vorn smirked briefly at her, still rolling his hair between his fingers before dropping it as he looked a little startled at her words.
"Oh." he said, and quickly rose to his feet as she did, his wing frames only moving slightly as his tail came to rest behind him. "Well, I hope you got what you needed. Though Im not rightly sure what you wanted in the first place." he said. "I need to be going myself, my work doesnt wait. After you, Doctor?" He motioned slightly to the door. He may have been a bounty hunter but he knew how to be polite. Especially too, that she could stand eye to eye with him and wasnt afraid of him.
Louisa inclined her head in a slight gracious bow, and turning, left the room.
Vorn watched her go, following her form with his eyes as he thought to himself just why she had wanted to interview him. He had thought it might be for a job, but apparently it wasnt. Was he being set up, perhaps? Or was he just letting himself believe that that was the case?
He shook his head. At any rate, at least she was good company while it lasted. Aside from Meireen, no one else had mentioned his long hair and why he kept it. Or asked him why he stuck on with the two he didnt trusted.
Hmmm.. Maybe its just another person confirming what I already know. he thought to himself grimly. That maybe its time I cut ties..
His hand strayed to his throat, just below it, where under his shirt and light armor sat a locket from Meireen against his upper chest.
Meireen will be mad with me when I tell her she was right after all. a sad smirk came to his lips before he sighed and hardened his expression and adjusted his wings, moving against his shoulders.
With a twitch of his tail he took a step from the room and made for the street, where his work awaited him..
