The Lower City Slums
Dakai's Appartment
Image in progress
There isn't much to the one room apartment. Its separated down the middle by a dividing curtain. The bedroom area has a mattress and a single small dresser that hols no more than a few sets of his usual work attire. The other is a single work bench that serves as a table and work area, a lone sink sits in the corner dripping at all times. He keeps the place clean due to his upbringing, much more sanitary than others in stone bend.
Dakai strode into his little place with Tetra in tow, immediately checking for intruders then snapping the four door locks shut behind him. He dropped his tool belt on the table along with the tube and collapsed on his mattress. "Feel free to take the bench for now, rest your legs, as for food i have some stale bread left from before my trip help yourself to it."
As soon as
Tetra came in behind Dakai, Ulysses poked his head out from the breast of her coat, looking around before beginning to violently, although quite adorably, wriggle himself free of the binding he had been in for too long. Fluttering over to the sink, the bird landed and ruffles his feathers trying to air himself out. With a loud caw, he settled down again, cocking his head sideways as he watched the water drip slowly from the faucet. His owner, the urchin, stepped further into the room, not undressing in kind as Dakai had. She looked around briefly before focusing on her host as he addressed her, offering her food. Her usual scowl grew deeper for a moment before she finally uttered a reply. "Let's just get yer
thing opened. I got things to take care of before I worry 'bout food or anythin' else." Ultimately, the girl was curious about the letter she had, and part of her wanted to revisit Thaddeus and hear, or read, his thoughts on the matter.
"Its the tube there. Think you can pop the lock?"
Dakai asked after hoisting himself up and leaning on the edge of the table letting the girl have the seat. He wanted to see her skill and hopefully pick up on a few things about lock picking(learn). "I hope its some good designs. I need some ideas for the up coming competition."
Tetra first cut her eyes sharply in the direction of the locked tube before walking over to the leather item and picking it up. Apparently the girl had nothing to say on Dakai's hopes and wishes for the loot inside. She carried it back to the center of the room, where the most light shone down from the ceiling light. Setting it down, Tetra took a seat, herself, while Ulysses looked on from his spot on the sink, occasionally pecking at the dripping water. Sitting cross-legged on the floor, the urchin reached into her jacket, to a pocket hidden inside, and dug around for a bit. Within a few seconds, she pulled her hand back, producing a set of lockpicks. Taking a pair in her hand, she hoisted the tube into an upright position, locking her knees around it so she could hold it up while she did her work. Taking in a deep breath, Tetra steadied herself, then inserted the pick into the keyhole of the tube, feeling for the locks and doing her best not to break the pick. (Finesse)
Tetra managed to push the lockpick into the top lock of the carrying case, and after jumbling it around for a bit, she found the right position to push the first tumbler up. After a bit, she got the second and finally, a third. The small padlock built into the top of the map case finally opened and she was able to pull open the top of the case. Inside, she could see several rolls of very old parchments and papers rolled up, along with the smell of dust and mold. In the meantime, Dakai was unable to really glean much from the girl's movements, as he couldn't tell when she had found a tumbler or how she knew which way to pull.
Tetra's nose wrinkled and her face scrunched up in disgust as the old, musty smell leaked out of the now opened tube. Pocketing her lock picks, the girl stood, grabbing the tube and holding it out towards Dakai. "I'm going out for a while," the girl informed the man, not bothering to question the contents of the tube. Not yet, at least. "I ain't runnin' away, so don't try to follow me."
"Good job miss tetra."
Dakai gave a her a smile. She had done her part, his place was hers for a while. "Well, i suppose i cant stop you. but these streets can be rough, not that you cant handle yourself you have already proven that. Please dont get into any trouble, we dont need anymore guards around here." He responded not really wanting the girl to venture out on her own. "Sure you dont want me to come with you?"
With her eyes glued to Dakai and her grip growing tighter on the tube in her outstretched hand,
Tetra frowned deeply and let out a loud, long and annoyed sigh. Stalking right over to where the other man stood, the short teen shoved the blueprint tube against Dakai's chest, letting go immediately whether he had a hand on it or not. "
Don't follow me," the girl growled, annoyed with Dakai's incessant questioning and apparent inability to understand what he was told. Whistling sharply, Tetra held her arm out as Ulysses flew to her, his talons gripping onto her thick coat, before both walked out the door, without another word, into

"Well as long as she comes back i suppose."
Dakai said to himself. Under any normal circumstances he would have followed her but his engineering tick kept him glued to the table. "She can handle herself." He spread the documents out on the table flat pouring over the papers like it was an addiction. he tried his best to figure out what it all was.
Most of the pieces of paper Dakai retrieved from the tube were worthless, either too damaged or simple lists of random materials, maintenance schedules, empty and unsigned part requisition forms from 15 years ago, nothing he could really use. Two of them, however, seemed useful. One was an old blueprint describing something akin to a mechanical gauntlet which would probably give a simple human the ability to crush bone with a single punch, and a clockwork construct the ability to push their first through solid rock. The other one was a much, much older looking piece stack of paper, a few pages long and written in old, archaic speech yet still readable. It seemed to be written not in paper but in old parchment, using a quill instead of an ink-pen, and was signed by a Kantor Lamarche.
"Well this would have helped beat the crap out of those things back on the tracks."
Dakai laughed a bit to himself looking over the documents. He was already burning to build the hammerfists. But the sneaking curiosity of the journal bugged him too. Eventually the engineering side of him won out. "But how am i gonna buy the parts, im broke at the moment." He leaned back trying to recall or think of a fast way to get some money or parts, maybe bum off thaddeus...(knowledge, memory)
"I need some money.... and kind of quick."
Dakai tapped his chin thoughtfully. He could do some odd jobs but these parts were expensive, and there wasn't much time until the competition in his mind. "as much as i hate to say it theres only one place to go when you need a good bit of cash in a hurry." He sighed as he stood up pulling on his goggles and tool belt once more, placing the documents in the tube but didn't lock it. He set it down on his bed before facing the door and heading out to
