The Lower City Slums

The Lower City Slums are the most densely populated place left in the world after the onset of the eternal winter. As opposed to the carefully planned and beautifully constructed Upper City, the slums have grown haphazardly, many times new dwellings and roads were carved out of the rock itself by their inhabitants. The Lower City itself is policed and control by the majai who inhabit it, though Daguerrians still hold overall power, grenadiers tend not to worry about the lower city and the locals need to police the streets themselves if they want security. Unless one is knowledgeable about the city, it's best to stay on the main roads, as the winding paths that have grown organically in all directions seem like a maze filled with dangerous areas and no man's lands which eagerly await a misplaced traveler. The slums is the largest and poorest of the four 'haths', or districts the city has. It is dominated by the circular road called "Stonebend", where most of the population lives. The latest figures show there are easily eight Majai for every Daguerrian in the Royal City, and out of those eight, five will love around Stonebend. The Clay Stairs go into the mines, the most dangerous place in the city, where the so called mudrangers explore the dangers of the underground and a veritable anthill of mining tunnels extend for kilometers in all directions. The Mudgate is the entrance of the slums and one of the few financial centers of the city. Regardless of Daguerrian attempts to make all Majai seem the same, there are high cultural tensions in the Lower city. The slums is where the poorer Majai live, those that make the mass of small tribes and peoples that were not necessarily part of the larger empires. The Nosu Rahal, or Night Street, leads to the Majai Hath, it is little more than an inhabited, two floor tunnel with little light, hence the name. It is the center of organized crime in the Royal City. On the opposite side of Stonebend is the Supplicant's road, where the poorer Shah live. Only those authorized by the purebloods are allowed to live in the Shah hath beyond it. Finally there is Red Ribbon Road, the center for entertainment of all kinds in the Slums, it is always a party in the Red Ribbon road and everything from innocence to debauchery live side by side there. It is also the gateway to the famed Mage Market, which is the preferred place for Kkala in the city, though shared by all Majai groups.
