The Lower City Majai Hath

Rasul's Clinic

Rasul's Clinic, from the outside, is a small, run down, adobe brick building, housed in the Aranire Rahal of the Majai Hath. The front door boast the three-headed serpent symbol of Hydara, dyed navy blue and painted with fading silver accents. In contrast with the outside of the building, the inside walls of Rasul's Clinic boast cleanliness and glorious decoration, various tapestries and drapes hung about the various rooms, some displaying an intricate design, much like a family insignia, with the image of Hydara plastered almost crudely into the center of the image.

The abode is well-kept, clean as a doctor's office should be, and stretches farther back that it would appear from the streets. The immediate front, as one enters the door, is shown to be a small but comfortable living space, boasting furniture covered in navy blue cloth, a worn cot in the corner, a faded wooden table and chairs that must have once belonged to someone wealthy, a large mirror with an intricate frame, and various other items typically found in homes. The most noticeable of all the decor, however, is that of a rather large painted portrait hung on the wall and directly visible from the door. It was a painted image of three people, a Majai man that could be assumed to be Rasul himself, a Daguerrian woman with rosy cheeks and lightly colored hair, and a small girl between them, fair of hair and with bright, happy eyes.

Past the comfy living space, at last, through a doorway, is Rasul's own personal back-alley clinic. Aside from two beds covered in off-white cloth, there are tables and tools situated around the room and a pot of water hung over a hearth, giving the impression that Dr. von Hobbes keeps busy with his patients. At the far back of the room, a bookshelf is situated against the wall, full of thick, leather and paperbound tomes, many depicting, as expected, the image of Hydara.

Thrice, a knock sounded at the door, and it took a moment, but Rasul eventually looked up from his reading to peer through his glasses and out the nearest window. He puffed once on his pipe, and after sliding a small tear if paper into the crack of his book, closed the tome and placed it on the small table next to him, beside the large candle. As he stood, the Majai man straightened out his clothing, still dressed in slacks and a dress shirt. Setting the pipe onto the table as well, the man of average stature made his way to the door, opening it with a creak and peering outside.

Walking slowly and with a hand placed gently on top of Daiyu's, Rasul led the Shah woman cautiously into his home. He took his steps one at a time as the pair walked to the back, where his actual clinic was located. Approaching one of the pristine white, or as white as fabric could be, beds, Rasul attempted to help Daiyu onto the mattress, holding her so she did not have to put much, if any, strain on her broken leg.

Daiyu allowed herself to be led into the room. She looked around curiously, studying her surroundings (notice) as if she was trying to figure out how he was going to heal her in one night. His clinic looked like every other clinic. She didn't say much until she'd settled herself on the mattress and only then was it a small nod of appreciation, "Thank you."

"It is my pleasure, miss. I don't believe I caught your name," replied the man with a warm smile as he backed away from the Shah, letting her get comfortable on the mattress on her own. As she did so, the Majai doctor kneeled down, messing with something under the bed, and after a moment, he puled out a flat platform that was connected to a metal arm stretching from beneath the bed. He situated it on the mattress, making a place where Daiyu could rest her leg and he could more easily examine her. "If you don't mind, could you lift your robe to your knee so I can get a closer look at what's going on inside your leg?" he questioned the girl, walking away only to drag back an old, worn chair and leave it next to the bed.

Daiyu was quiet as she settled herself on the bed, "My name is Daiyu." She answered as she shifted uncomfortably on the bed. It was a strange bed and she felt awkward as she leaned back. When he asked her to lift her robe though her cheeks developed a pair of high points of color on her cheeks. After a moments hesitation she gingerly reached down and pulled the robe up to reveal her leg.

"Nice to meet you Daiyu," Rasul answered with a nod and a smile. He wanted his patients to feel as comfortable as possible with him, and getting to know them a bit always made room for conversation, and conversation tended to put patients at ease. While the girl hesitantly lifted her robe, the doctor scooted hi chair forward and took a seat, leaning in to get a better look. "So, miss Daiyu, are you from here in the Royal City, or have you been traveling?" he asked the girl, genuinely curious as he gently ran his fingers over the skin of the Shah's leg, trying to find where the bones were broken (Heal). She was covered in bumps and bruises and her legs looked just short of mangled to pieces, which worried him.

It was strange to have someone touching her legs and Daiyu was grateful for the conversation. "I only arrived today... This," She gestured towards her injuries, "happened on the trip here. We were attacked." She wasn't sure if she should talk about it much, especially about the creatures that had attacked them so she stopped there.

Rasul took in Daiyu's words, giving the young woman a nod and a sincere, "Ah, my apologies," but the young doctor was more concerned about the awful breaks in the girl's leg. It seemed whoever had attacked the poor girl had really done her a number. "It's unfortunate that we can't even take the Lonetrain without worrying for our safety. I am glad you got out no more harmed than this, however," the man smiled. He gently tugged Daiyu's robe back over her leg, then leaning back, his smile faded into a look of concern. Miss, it seems that have suffered two, or possibly more, very serious break to the bone in your leg. This is something that should be treated with surgery, which could leave you in a splint for at least six months, if not a year," the man explained, frowning. He wasn't sure if he should bring up the second option, mostly for selfish reasons, but he slowly breached the subject. "If that is not ideal, I may have another option for you."

Daiyu's facade broke and a tinge of despair clouded her features as she she listened to the man talk. Nevermind that he'd eased her robe back down to cover her leg, she was already pushing herself into a sitting position. She needed to be healed by tomorrow, she couldn't wait another say and risk losing her invitation to join the Shadowswords. Thankfully, he continued and, at the mention of a second option, she leaned closer. "What is it? It has to be done by tomorrow!" She said urgently, forgetting to keep up her disdain as hope seemed to fill her eyes.

Rasul's frown deepened as Daiyu voiced her desperation to have her leg healed by the next day. He was somewhat shocked that the girl thought he could heal such a mangled and broken body part in less than a day, but it didn't matter too much considering he had something that could do just that. However, he was unsure if he was ready to give it up just yet, and he definitely would not give it up for a small price. "I have.. something that may be able to heal your leg by tomorrow. However, the price for such an item is very steep..." the young doctor explained, though he was honestly unsure what he could charge for the Tear. Money was not what he sought, but he doubted a Shah could help him with that, either. "I may be willing to make a deal."

Daiyu blinked, almost in disbelief, she wasn't sure what she'd expected but to hear Rasul confirm that it was possible to have her leg healed made her pause. The dark haired woman's silence did not last long as she considered his proposal. She had no money but a deal? She bit her lip, drawing a bit of blood, as she came to decision. If she was not healed, she would never move forward... Otherwise... "What are the terms?" She finally asked cautiously.

"Unfortunately, I... do not have any terms. Yet," answered Rasul, looking down briefly before casting his gaze up again. "But seeing as how you need your leg healed at the earliest time possible, I would be willing to postpone the terms until a later date. That is, if you are willing to do the same and grant me a deal when I've decided what I need."

To make a deal without knowing the terms? It was bad business... Very bad business. Joining the Shadowswords though... It was worth it, Daiyu thought quietly to herself and forced herself to nod in agreement. "I will await to hear your terms whenever you decide them." She promised him, swallowing hard to quell the sudden pit that had seemed to form in her stomach.

A strange relief washed over Rasul as Daiyu agreed to take the treatment in exchange for an as of yet undecided deal - not because he was allowed the chance to decide the terms at a later date, but because he was finally going to get rid of that damned Tear that teased him with horrible memories each time he laid eyes on it. With a hint of a smile, he gave a slight nod to Daiyu, then stood from his seat. "I will try not to put any unnecessary hardships on you when I decide my terms," the man grinned, attempting a bit of humor in the rather grim situation (Charm). Turning away, the doctor walked to a far corner of the makeshift clinic, finding a wooden cabinet there where he kept some of his medicines. He dug to the back of the lowest shelf, then pulled back his hand, producing a small, rather antique looking, wooden box. He made his way to another corner then, where, on a table, sat a set of clay cups and a pitcher of previously boiled water. He proceeded to pour a cup of water, then set the wooden box down next to the water. He spent a few awkward second staring at the closed box, perhaps saying a goodbye to the precious but hated item he held there, but Rasul finally opened the case, producing a small, marble-like blue jewel that sparkled almost magically. Taking the jewel, the doctor suddenly tapped it against the corner of the table, apparently trying to crack it. When it did crack, Rasul pulled apart two jagged halves of the sphere over the cup of water, letting a shimmery powder fall out and into the clear liquid. Finally, he picked up the cup, after tossing the remnants of the jewel aside, and made his way back to Daiyu. However, he did not yet give her the liquid, but set it aside as he took a seat once more. "Unfortunately, I'll need to set the bones in your leg back in place before I can give you the medicine," he frowned, knowing the pain that both her leg and his ears would go through (were she to scream).

She did not trust him, his attempt at smiling was pitiful and it did not escape Daiyu's sharp gaze how he treated the object. Such a precious thing would cost her dearly. It was best though that she bite her tongue and watch as he broke the small gem and poured its contents into a cup.
"Do what you must." The Shah woman murmured quietly after he mentioned setting the bones in her leg. It was a false confidence. Her heart had quickly picked up a rapid canter in her chest and her knuckles turned white as she hid her hands in her robes and gripped at the cloth in an effort to brace herself against the pain she knew was coming.

Rasul let out a somewhat disappointed sigh when the Shah woman didn't seem to warm up to him at all. He felt like he came off so awkward whenever he drank. All the more reason not to drink at night - as if he even had the willpower to stop. "Alright," he nodded as the Shah woman gave him the go-ahead. Before he started, he reached behind him quickly, picking up a clean cloth from the nearby supply table. "Bit down on this," he commanded as he handed Daiyu the cloth. Giving her some time to prepare herself, Rasul leaned forward. He felt along the woman's leg once more, seeking out the grooves where the bone has been apart. After a few seconds, and without any more warning, the man began carefully pushing the bones together, lining them up in a slow and painful process (Heal).

Daiyu nodded as she took the cloth and stiffly placed it between her teeth. She wasn't quite sure what it would do but she obediently bit down. A few moments later her curiosity was gone as searing pain ripped through her. The cloth was a decent distraction as her body apparently decided the item in her mouth was responsible for her pain as she bit down hard, grinding her teeth into the cloth as an agonized moan escaped her throat and her vision blurred.

Luckily for Daiyu, Rasul seemed to know what he was doing. Every time he pushed into her leg, she felt a sharp pain shoot up her spine with a strength that made her arch her back. After two or three times, however, it seemed like everything was in place, and all that was left was a throbbing pain on her broken leg.

Thanks the gods it hadn't taken to much time to put her leg back into place but even so, by the time Rasul had finished, Daiyu's skin was covered in a fine sheen of sweat, her hair clung to her forehead and her skin almost looked like it had a greenish tint. "How much longer?" She forced herself to ask. She tried to sound stern and strong but the words came out sounding a bit pitiful... and whimpering.

Rasul sat back in his seat after carefully aligning the bones in Daiyu's leg, bringing his hand up to his forehead to run his fingers through his hair. "Well, miss, the bones are back in place. Now it's only a matter of waiting through the night until the medicine does its work," he explained with a nod before standing and walking towards his medicine cabinet. "I may have a small dose of Opium, if you so wish to numb the pain," he added, glancing over his shoulder briefly before rummaging through the cabinet (Notice).

After a bit of searching, Rasul produced a trio of tiny folded paper packets, inside was carefully separated, black opium dust. It could be prepared in a pipe or, if one was looking for more instant brain addled state, drunk as a tonic.

Would she be looked down on for accepting the drugs? Daiyu didn't know but she prayed to the gods that it wouldn't be so as she nodded her head in acceptance. "Thank you." She said simply, finding it easy to be grateful to the man who was offering to take away this pain. The young woman had already suffered more pain and horror in the last 24 hours than she'd even imagined in her entire sheltered life and she was ready to leave the sharp pain behind.
