| I was contacted by the author, Stevan Hoffman, of a book, entitled: "The Horse Secret", inquiring about the use of my Golden_Winged_Pegasus to depict the 'golden winged Pegasus' character in his book as the book's cover art. Naturally, as is usually the case with most art-artists, I was quite thrilled. When I received my copy, I read it and I must say, I do like the story. I am an avid, horse-crazy, horse loving person however. From the author - Stevan Hoffman: "Basically the book is about seven horses that have the gift of human speech and reasoning bestowed on them by Pegasus. They have never met Pegasus and do not till the ending chapter when he comes to save the life of one of their stall-mates while returning from their great adventure. The book chronicles a year in their lives as they fulfill their dreams etc.. They go through several chaotic adventures, overcome fears, fulfill dreams, and learn lessons about life. It is young adult reading material that describes as fiction with a splash of fantasy. | Seven horses with a secret gift of human speech bestowed on them by a mythical horse, all reside at The North Ranch where they share the setting with their human caretakers who have no knowledge of just how special their horses are. The daily lives of these horses which includes their misguided ad- ventures, bickering, and schemes, offer the reader a look into equestrian personalities which mirror those of their human counterparts, yet with enchanted and dramatic results. Each chapter presents a different adventure the stablemates encounter through the passing of one year. Chapter by chapter the drama unfolds until it climaxes in the final chapter titled The Great Adventure. Meet Trouble, the incorrigible rogue colt that refuses to be ridden but later goes on to discover deep within himself the heart of a champion. There is Geni the wise elderly Arabian mare whose guidance and counsel offers insight to the gift and instills pride in the heritage of being a mighty horse. Dabir the alpha mare leads her fellow horses through their evolving journey of life as she once led the field to the winner's circle years ago. Arrogant and egocentric to a fault, Sonny bullies his way through life yet is good hearted to the core as he and the others eventually discover before it is to late. Groomswing is the "yes man" of the barn but comes to the defense of others. Miss, mother of Princess, epitomizes all mothers who fear for their young's well being as she knows her foal will soon be sold off. Princess has but one desire in life, which is to be ridden by young children. When Princess is eventually sold, The Great Adventure begins. Fueled by love and a lust for adventure, a scent sniffing barn cat named George leads the herd in search of Princess with a common goal to bring her home. What will happen as these country horses travel together under the cloak of darkness through an unknown landscape? By the time the adventure is over the herd will learn more about life and themselves than they ever dreamed possible. Filled with fantasy, adventure, a touch of mythology, and humans with endearing personalities, "The Horse Secret" is suitable material for young adults and offers readers situations that all can relate to. |
