First step: fill in the background with whatever color you think works. It's important to not leave it white or black, but work with a midtone of some sort, so you have a better idea of the range of values you are working with. Otherwise you can easily make the drawing too dark or too light. It's best to match the background color with what you want for the rest of the image. ;)

Once le color is there, draw some rough and wobbly outline - like I just did.
