Hello everyone!

I'm Marjolein Turin from the Netherlands. With my brand Somnia Romantica I design and make garments and accessories for nightlife. The pieces are inspired by history, often based on authentic patterns. Yet I adjust it to own design and interpretation. The purpose of the brand is to bring a touch of nostalgy, and dreamy elegance into todays hectic, modern world.

When I was about 15 years of age, I decided to start making these things for myself. After my first dress succeeded, there was no stopping. More and more fabrics were crawling into the house, my parents stepped in needles and in my breaks at school I was drawing new patterns.

After highschool I went to the Chamber of Commerce and started my first buisness, a line of gothic and fantasy clothing which I sold to several stores in the Netherlands.
In 2008, after a short break from buisness, I started to develop the new concept, which was launched in 2009: Somnia Romantica, historically inspired romantic wear for nightlife. Dancing, theatre, gala, club, stage, it's all up to the eye of the beholder.

The name for my buisness was easily decided. Somnia means 'dream' in Latin. It's also been translated as 'moonshine'. Both reflect the feel of the brand perfectly.
