Name: Does it really matter?

photo

I know someday you'll have a beautiful life
I know you'll be a star in somebody else's sky
But why, why, why can't it be mine?

drawing

So pretty.
And not even together.
She just lay down like that.

Have you reckon'd a thousand acres much? have you reckon'd the earth much?
Have you so long practis'd to learn to read?
Have you felt so proud to get at the meaning of poems?

Stop this day and night with me and you shall possess the origin of all poems,
You shall possess the good of the earth and sun, (there are millions of suns left,)
You shall no longer take things at second or third hand, nor take things from me,
You shall listen to all sides and filter them from your self.

Song of Myself, Walt Whitman

In case you couldn't tell, I love Walt Whitman. If you don't know of him, look up Leaves of Grass and read it a couple times. If you're the kind of person who sits back and titters, "Wasn't he gay?" -- Leave. Now.

"There's another world
of chocolate bars and baseball cards
That hides inside of all
this tension that I'm feeling"

Now, I really hate to be cliche...so I won't. Everyone should know the basic rules of etiquette for contacting someone online, or, at least, via Elftown. If you don't, leave and come back when you do. They're on most all self-respecting houses. Go educate yourself.

"...there would be punishment and pain, and there would be happiness, too. That was writing."

About Me

I'm a writer. That's why I joined this place, really. For the most part, it's all poetry, but every once in a while, I venture out into the unfinished with a bit of story. Poetry is my life, and it makes me sad that everyone now equates writing poetry with being emo. Poetry is life, the history of the world, the emotional essence...and so forth and so on.
I wouldn't come right out and call myself weird or strange, because so many people do that already that it's rather ironic. I'm an individual, just like all of us are, if we think about it. I may know myself a bit more than you, but I don't think that makes me better.

"Those of us who understand life couldn't care less about numbers."

Interests
I'm interested in a lot of things, but my main loves can be narrowed down to: Thought, Spirituality, Beauty, and People.
Thought
I enjoy conversations, writing, artwork, music, anything that makes me think deeply. If you've got anything you'd like to recommend along this line, I'd be more than happy to add it to my collection of thought-provoking things. If you have anything, from life to death, psychology to the reason for math, anything to discuss, I'm open to any and all opinion. Be warned though, I have my own.
Spirituality
I'm a Christian. Before you stereotype me as a judgmental, stiff, snobbish person, please, hear me. I'm not a judgmental idiot. I don't hate anyone, especially not for what they are: Satanist, homosexual, Buddhist, atheist, whatever. I promise to never judge you, so please give me the same courtesy. That said, I generally find God most in nature, and in other people, strangely enough. I don't believe in religion: humans have a spirit, not a religion, inside of them. I believe in love
Beauty
I think it's everywhere, in everyone. Only absolute evil cannot be beautiful. And no human being or living thing is ever absolutely evil. Beauty isn't always something you can see, for example, the beauty of music, or the beauty of words. It's a miasma surrounding everything.
People
are beautiful. In our sick, weird, sad, happy, sinful, passionate ways, we are beautiful. We are unrestrained. We are controlled. We are happy and we are sad. We go through ecstasy and depression in a relatively short span of time. People are the most interesting thing to observe.

Minor Obsessions

I love most music. You know the lyrics, I'm sure: "I like pleasure mixed with pain/and music is my aeroplane." The current musician of love is Ben Webster. I encourage you to check him out, unless you're an uber metal head. Or a Weekly-Top-40 kid, in which case I'd suggest a strong dose of the underground.
Books. Yes, I'm one of those strange Americans who actually enjoys reading. I buy books like crack. And it's about that expensive too. My favorite book right now is The Book Thief, by Markus Zusack. If you've got anything to recommend as far as books go, please, do. I'm literally begging you.

"I too am not one bit tamed, I too am untranslatable,
I sound my barbaric yawp over the roofs of the world."

Random Facts About Moi
[I look for a man's beauty in his hands, his wrists, his nose, and his feet.]
Jazz music makes me think of smoky blue. I love it.
[Like a lot of people, I love photography. Humans and sunsets are my favorite subjects.]
I love big, crowded places, because I get to people-watch.
[Give me headphones and I'll play the air guitar walking down the street.]
I think guys with lisps are hot.
[Brown makes me think of cuddles, and soft smiles.]
I love clothing from India.
[I love dancing anywhere.]

"I am haunted by humans."

~My Latest Poem~

Self-destruct

Give me
cigarettes or razorblades,
because baby, all I want
is to self-destruct.
You're an addiction
I'll eventually kick,
hide you away in a little black box
next to everything that ever made me smile.
   You gave it all back,
   Like it meant NOTHING
   to you.

But for now,
I keep a regular stock
of things to hurt me:
clove cigarettes for when I want it artistic,
old journals for when I want it nostalgic,
alcohol for when I want it dull,
razors for when I want it sharp,
and you for when I want it to almost kill me.
   Just almost, though.

"Help me stay awake, I'm falling...
Asleep in perfect blue buildings
Beside the green apple sea
Gonna get me a little oblivion, baby
Try to keep myself away from me"

If you've made it this far...you've got to be some kind of bored. But for your effort, I give you...
an unlimited supply of kudos!!
