The Beauty Within

Oh, great King, Aikanáro be thy name,
Have seen your mighty strength, been singed by your flame.
With an air of arrogance, a mountain full of pride,
A thicket of projections methodically applied;
High upon a pedestal, although up there alone,
You present yourself to which no one can atone.

But, you cannot hide what's deep within, concealed,
In spite intentions driven, for magic has revealed
A warm heart beating, romantically inclined,
Kind, gentle, yet strong, with an independent mind.

Only one that cares enough to pursue beyond your cover,
Will appreciate the soul within, be pleased to discover,
The elements of a rogue are just a masterful disguise,
But for a true believer, the reflections in your eyes
Speak in silence clearly to tell a different tale,
For a rose lies in waiting, its beauty to unveil.

When the day has come, in the mirror you do see,
The greatest power within you has yet to be set free,
It is then you will be granted, a power unsurpassed,
And the darkness in your heart shall be out forever cast.

Sadly, Goodbye

A leaf falling slowly
through autumn bitten wind,
suspended for an instant
before sending ripples to the edge
of a murky puddle.
Wet garbage.

A feather tumbling at random
along a current of wind,
pulled and pushed along by zephyrs
until caught at last
in a spider's wide web.
Carnivore's breakfast.

Spinning seashell spat upon the shore
after a tumultuous ride along the waves,
churned and spurned by the selective sea
until at long last
it is heaved onto the sand
to rest and be buried.
Forgotten treasure.

Small, tapered fingers grasping
at a hand that pulls slowly away,
skin sliding free as the sunlight crowns a man,
haloing his retreating blonde head
until the golden light devoured him entirely from sight.
A woman, alone.

planetary perspective

did you ever stare into the sun as she was falling behind the horizon
and realize
you're the one falling?

could you finally assimilate, during her spectacular dive,
the wonderous speed
at which you're moving?

did you ever walk barefoot by the roaring, receding ocean
and ponder in awe
the distant moon's attraction?

did you ever observe great orion plunge into a forest
and mourn
when the hunter didn't find his way home

but stands forever in cold space,
while we, in our naïvety, just keep going
around

and around

?

Thinning Veil

Crimson blood, a sight to see,
The scent, the chase, a frantic plea.
Flashing teeth, blood and gore,
The darkness prowling at your door.

Blue-black fur and silver eyes
See through your soul, under your lies.
Drawn into a Veil-less night,
Flesh is torn by fatal bite.
