Aeres - Trinity

Good Bond

It wasn’t always pleasant being able to read minds. In fact, she wasn’t really all too fond of it. The problem wasn’t that she particularly minded knowing others secrets, it was just shutting up others thoughts that grew cumbersome. It was almost like her mind unwillingly tuned in on others thoughts and when it got a clear signal they were stuck in there for hours, sometimes days. And usually it wasn’t just one clear signal at a time—and there was always a handful of bad signals. It was like listening to whispers all day long. It… could drive a person insane.

Trinity flinched as a string of curse words sounded loudly in her mind, almost like she was actually standing next to the person who seemed to be screaming curses directly into her ear. The half-angel winced and reached up to rub her left temple, sighing. It was Aeres… she and Aeres seemed to have a very strong connection whenever the fiery-tempered, sharp-tongued woman was near. It was often frustrating.

Trinity stood quietly and moved across the room towards the window. Her white dress swirled enchantingly about her long slender legs. Her bare feet padded quietly on the stone floor and she tried to concentrate on how cool it felt. Delicate fingers slowly uncurled from her each other and found their way to the windows ceil. It was warm… and the afternoon light was bright. It made her irises sting, but she forced her eyes wide. The slight discomfort seemed to take a little of the edge off the quiet voices that distorted the clear ones. It made her headache a little less painful…

She sighed softly after a moment and her head dropped. Her silvery hair shifted into her face. It was shorter, barely to her shoulders, and easy to manage. The pink butterfly clip that she wore so religiously every day was absent—still sitting on the dresser. She hadn’t been feeling particularly well today and she hadn’t even made her morning ritual of sitting in the garden to watch the sun rise. She was so use to the routine—wake up, get ready to meet the day, wander to the garden to sit and try to block out the thoughts of others. The only difference today was she wasn’t sitting where she could feel the sun so tenderly on her skin, or smell the perfection of flowers.

Her golden eyes searched the outside world and she grabbed hold of the window ceil. After a few good tugs she finally wrenched it open. The cold air that met her surprised her and she shivered. It smelled like rain…

“Trinity?”

She jumped and turned around, her eyes wide, and she looked rather terrified—almost guilty. She had broken the routine… and someone had come to find out why.

“Didn’t mean to scare you, sorry.”

Trinity blew out a breath. It was Aeres… Her older sister was frowning, her eyebrows arched in the way that made her look entirely too pissed off about nothing. Her thoughts were running wild—she was worried. Why wasn’t Trinity outside? Why wasn’t sure following her routine? Was she sick? What was wrong?

“I’m fine, Aeres… I promise. I was just feeling…a little under the weather.” She forced a smile and it was sweet, though unnaturally so. Aeres knew that look, and Trinity knew that she knew. With a soft sigh, Trinity licked her lips and turned away. “I’m sorry, Aeres. I don’t mean to make you worry.”

“Of course you don’t.” There was a slight undertone of annoyance in Aeres’ voice—yet then again, when wasn’t there? The thoughts that fluttered into Trinity’s mind, however, let her know that her sister really wasn’t upset. She was just genuinely worried.

“Don’t you get sick of routine?”

/What?/ Aeres didn’t say anything out loud, but her expression enough could have told Trinity how utterly random the question was. Trinity flushed slightly and began to fidget. Aeres frowned at her. “Of course I don’t. I—“

“—wake up, run a few miles, eat something, run a few more, go teach some students how to use a sword, run some more, eat again and maybe take the time out of your busy schedule to run a few more miles before going to sleep and ready to start the day all over again.” Trinity’s voice was shaking slightly, obviously distraught, obviously hurt. “Why would you do that? You don’t have to… You could do something different… You could wake up one day, decide that maybe you don’t want to go for a run and instead just lay there until the afternoon… maybe even stay in bed all day and sleep…”

“…What’s wrong, Trinity?”

Trinity sighed softly and shook her head before sitting down heavily on her bed. She leaned forward and her elbows rested on her knees, hands clenched together tightly. She sighed, “I don’t know, Aeres… Sometimes when I wake up… I regret that.”

Aeres’ lips became a thin line and her eyebrows knitted together with worry. “Trinity…”

“You…” She raised her eyes, golden, piercing, filled with tears, “You have the ability to change. You can decide what you want to do every day. I can barely function. I can barely even find my way around the manor even though I’ve lived here nearly my entire life.” Her voice shook and she dropped her head again, “I’m sorry… I shouldn’t…”

Aeres let out a soft sigh and moved over to sit next to her sister, barely close enough that they touched. Aeres wasn’t into being so close to other people, she had inherited that need for space from her father. Yet, she was also compassionate like him. She cared. The thoughts that raced through her mind were proof of that. And they weren’t thoughts fabricated up because she knew that the other could read her mind—they were genuine—they were jumbled, they were troubled.

“You’re not…”

“No.” Trinity said quietly, finishing her sisters thought. She was not suicidal, but she was depressed. “I just… wish I had my own mind. I wish that… I could wake up one day and not have to feel everyone else’s worries… I wish I didn’t have to know what someone wanted to eat for dinner, or what they wanted to say to someone else… I wish I didn’t know everyone’s secrets.”

“I’m sorry.”

“I know.” Trinity raised her head and looked at her sister and smiled gently, “I know you are. That’s why you always come to visit me. To try and mix up my boring life a little…” she swallowed thickly, “…I also know how close Dad is to figuring out a way to suppress my telepathy. I… really believe that one day he’ll figure it out.”

“Some day soon.” Aeres said firmly, nodding.

“Yes… I hope so.”

/I hope so too, Trinity. For your sake./ Aeres reached out slowly and placed one arm around her sister and pulled her close. With a sigh Trinity leaned against her and let the usually stoic woman hold her quietly for a moment. She didn’t need to look to know that Aeres was fighting tears. Her troubled thoughts that spoke so clearly in her mind were choked with enough emotion.

A/N: Story bond 18/81 of a project I'm working on.

This took...forever to write. I didn't have much motivation or thought of what to write about with these two.. and I'm glad I waited. I think I connected a lot better with Trinity then I have with any of her other story bonds I've written with her. I neglected Aeres whole-heartedly, but that's not the point. I felt Trinity's sadness when I wrote this... and I've been struggling to feel many of their characters emotions and thoughts... and actions. I've just been writing and hoping I produce something decent. Every movement I made her do, every emotion I made her feel and every word she spoke I felt connected with.. which is usually how I feel with my well developed characters like Yami or Kaelin. I'm glad I'm starting to connect with Trinity, she was actually one of the lasts I figured I'd connect with. She proved me wrong. Lucky girl.
