Black Magic

Black magic comes from the cracks in the universe and from what lies beyond. This draws black mages to the places in our universe were things pass through such as death. Black magic can be used to ultimately good ends but things touched by it are often twisted in disturbing ways.

Spells:

Dread
Required Ranks: 2; Energy Cost: 3; Casting Time: 1 action; Duration: 1 minute; Range: 5 lurks; Save: will check of 40
Description: Target feels a sudden chill bring up old fears and superstitions. She suffers a -3 to all checks.

Accelerated Decay
Required Ranks: 5; Energy Cost: 15; Casting Time: 1 action; Range: touch
Description: Target corpse instantly decays into dust. If this spell is used on an undead creature, that creature takes 15 damage.

Shadow Bite
Required Ranks: 5; Energy Cost: 5; Casting Time: 1 action; Duration: up to 1 minute; Range: touch
Description: The next time target weapon deals physical damage to something, during the duration of this spell, and is successful that damage is increased by 10. When a mage casts this spell she takes 5 damage.

Shadow Veil
Required Ranks: 10; Energy Cost: 15; Casting Time: 1 action; Duration: 1 hour; Range: caster’s person
Description: Obscures caster's features so that she gains a bonus of Spell’s Power +10 to disguise for the purposes of concealing her identity.

Pain
Required Ranks: 15; Energy Cost: 2X; Casting Time: 1 action;\ Duration: 3 rounds; Range: 10 lurks; Save: will checks vs. Spell’s Power + 10
Description: Target receives -X to all checks where X is half the amount of energy used to cast the spell.

Wound
Required Ranks: 15; Energy Cost: 15; Casting Time: 1 action; Range: 10 lurks
Description: Deals 10 damage to target living creature.

Dark Vision (Aura)
Required Ranks: 15
Description: Caster gains the ability to see normally in utter darkness for up to 10L.

Darkness
Required Ranks: 20; Energy Cost: 30; Casting Time: 1 action; Duration: 1 minute
Description: Creates a field of darkness that envelops a 5 lurk radius. In a field of darkness all attacks and other checks that rely on sight suffer a -30 penalty.

Dull Blades
Required Ranks: 20; Energy Cost: 20; Casting Time: 1 action; Range: 10 lurks
Description: Up to one target blade for every 10 Spell’s Powers is dulled. This gives it a -5 to damage value. Mundane (or magical) sharpening removes this penalty.

Scare
Required Ranks: 25; Energy Cost: 20; Casting Time: 1 action; Duration: 1 minute; Range: 10 lurks; Save: will check vs. Spell’s Power + 10
Description: Target must flee the caster if able.

Wear Spell
Required Ranks: 30; Energy Cost: X; Casting Time: 1 action; Range: touch
Description: Target lasting spell or enchantment losses X Spell’s Powers, where X is the amount of energy used to cast the spell. If the spell or enchantments Spell’s Power drops to 0, it is destroyed.

Death Whisper
Required Ranks: 30; Energy Cost: 25; Casting Time: 1 minute
Description: Caster can contacted the soul of target dead being whose remains are present and exchange up to 50 words with them.

Blood Rite of Mana
Required Ranks: 35; Energy Cost: 30; Casting Time: 1 minute; Duration: the cup of blood lasts one week; Range: touch
Description: Target cup of blood is enchanted so that drinking it grants 60 mana and drains 5 hit points.

Blood Rite of Strength
Required Ranks: 35; Energy Cost: 30; Casting Time: 1 minute; Duration: the cup of blood lasts one week, the strength bonus last 1 hour; Range: touch
Description: Target cup of blood is enchanted so that drinking it grants +5/3 Strength and drains 5 hit points.

Blood Rite of Healing
Required Ranks: 35; Energy Cost: 30; Casting Time: 1 minute; Duration: the cup of blood lasts one week; Range: touch
Description: Target cup of blood is enchanted so that drinking it grants 15 hit points and drains 40 energy.

Blood Rite of Energy
Required Ranks: 35; Energy Cost: 30; Casting Time: 1 minute; Duration: the cup of blood last one week; Range: touch
Description: Target cup of blood is enchanted so that drinking it grants 40 energy and drains 15 hit points.

Exdecay
Required Ranks: 35; Energy Cost: 35; Casting Time: 1 minute; Range: touch
Description: Target corpse is returned to its state the moment it died and all damage from decay (rot, rust) is removed from crafted items. If used on an undead creature, this spell heals 25 hit points.

Shadow Hide
Required Ranks: 35; Energy Cost: 30; Casting Time: 1 action; Duration: 15 minutes; Range: caster’s person
Description: Caster becomes enveloped in shadows so that she gains a bonus to sneak of Spell’s Power +10. This spell does not function in well lit areas.

Bleeding Wound
Required Ranks: 40; Energy Cost: 10; Casting Time: cast simultaneously with an attack; Duration: 5 rounds
Description: When casting this spell, make an attack. If the attack deals damage to a living creature, that creature takes 5 damage ever round after for the duration of the spell. This can be stopped if the damage from the attack is healed or bandaged.

Drain Energy
Required Ranks: 40; Energy Cost: 30; Casting Time: 1 action; Range: touch; Save: Fortitude check vs. Spell’s Power + 10.
Description: Drain an amount of energy equal to Spell’s Power from target. Caster gains that energy as her own.

Burst of Decay
Required Ranks: 45; Energy Cost: 20; Casting Time: 1 action; Range: 10 lurks; Save: fortitude check vs. Spell’s Power + 10
Description: Deals 20 damage to target. Undead take double damage.

Preserve
Required Ranks: 50; Energy Cost: 40; Casting Time: 1 minute; Duration: permanent; Range: touch
Description: Target corpse will not decay any further.

Steal Life
Required Ranks: 50; Energy Cost: 25; Casting Time: 1 action; Range: touch; Save: fortitude check vs. Spell’s Power + 10
Description: Caster steals 10 hit points from target living creature and gains them as her own.

Accelerate Decay II
Required Ranks: 50; Energy Cost: 20; Casting Time: 1 action; Range: touch
Description: Target non-living organic object instantly decays into dust. By spending an additional 20 energy metal objects can be rusted into dust as well. If this spell is used on an undead creature, that creature takes 30 damage.

Lesser Vestige
Required Ranks: 60; Energy Cost: 40; Casting Time: 1 minute; Duration: 1 hour; Range: arm’s reach
Description: This spell creates a vestige of an item worth 50 credits or less. A vestige of an item is unnaturally shadowy, translucent, and disappears when the spell ends but is otherwise like the real thing. Vestiges are lasting spell effects.

Heavy Metal
Required Ranks: 60; Energy Cost: 40; Casting Time: 1 action; Duration: up to 1 minute; Range: 10 lurk radius from caster
Description: Fashion the powers of darkness into music. All creatures that hear the music with in range take 5 damage per round. Mindless creatures (that don’t care about music) and heavy metal fans are immune to this effect. The caster must spend one action each round after the first to perform or the spell will end.
