Greetings, and welcome to Elftown's official Christmas Carol Competition!
Contest Moderators: [iippo] & [Teufelsweib]
Please read the [#RULES] and the [#THEME] before entering!
Rules:
1.
Your voice only. Songs must be sung by Elftowners and posted here by the original singer. Note: only the recording must be by you, you do not have to write your own song. You can pick one you know from anywhere.
2.
Only Christmas music. The song can be in any language, traditional carol or a new jingle. The song can be anti-Christmas but it must be about Christmas. No songs that use the tune of a Christmas song with new lyrics that aren't about Christmas.
3.
Old songs are allowed. Old recordings are allowed in this contest, provided they have not already been submitted to another
official Elftown Contest. If your song has been submitted to an unofficial contest, then you are still free to enter it here.
4.
Each member may submit two (2) entries.
5.
All songs must be uploaded to Elftown. To upload your song mp3 you can ask the contest moderator for the wiki-uploading privileges.
6.
Subject matter: Songs with lyrics about graphic violence, pornography or other disturbing actions will not be accepted. Only songs that fit the [
#theme] will be allowed.
7.
Medium: You. All human-produced sound is accepted. No instruments or any other items allowed. You can sing (a cappella), hum, whistle, snap your fingers, clap or drum on your own body, or make any other kind of sound that you can make with your body. No add-ons allowed.
8.
Quality: Please put forth your best effort. Since this is the first contest of its kind on Elftown, it is hard to define what this means. Do your best to eliminate background noises and distractions from your entry, and overall try your best while still having fun :D
9.
Queries: If you wish to discuss something about how the contest is run, or the rules, then please use the official contest forum:
<forum:Elftown contests>! If you wish to bring up a query about whether a certain entry fits the theme, please speak up before the entries make it to the polls. You can still speak up even after the contest is closed, as long as the polls have not yet gone up yet. Complaints received after the aforementioned will not be considered valid. However, if you wish to query whether an entry is stolen art or breaks any other rules, you may still bring this up after the poll has been made.
How to enter:
1. a) Purchase a microphone. b) Download Audacity (the free open source cross-platform audio recorder and editor
http://audacity.sourceforge.net/ ) You can use something else if you've got it, but if you don't have anything else, use Audacity, it's very good, it's free and it'll level the playing field.
2. Sing your stuff into the programme. Play with the software, explore all the fun features it has, play with the effects. When you have tried everything (there will be a test later) and are satisfied with the result, save your project as an mp3.
(Here it might tell you that you need LAME or something. You can get that from
http://lame.sourceforge.net/ )
3. Upload the mp3 to Elftown. If you do not have wiki uploading privs, ask [
iippo] and they will magically appear to you.
