Imrigo M'Lanin
Player: [
Falx]
Name: Imrigo M'Lanin
Race: Kazyreth (Dark elf)
Height: Four feet ten inches
Build: Petite
Hair: White, shoulder length, bangs falling to about her chin
Eyes: Deep brown
Skin Tone: Medium grey with slight violet tints
Social Standing: Matron of the Third House of Darshez Nagaeron
House Colors: Green, blue, and black
Personality: Imrigo is cunning, resourceful, devious, deceptive, and at times malicious. She is also fiercly loyal to her people and believes in leading her armies from the front in a battle. She believes that she should endure any danger that her people endure on her behalf. She dresses modestly in her House Colors and never wears anything that shows her arms. Above all else, Imrigo cannot abide useless people or rudeness.
History: Imrigo was the youngest and smallest of seven daughters. Being born a little prematurely (probably due to her father being her mother's brother) she was rather puny. As a child she got ill often, but the illness never lasted long. Her mother felt that she was a weak child unfit to be considered for anything above learning the family trade. The problem with that was that the M'lanin trade was silk making, and that silk came from spiders. When it became clear to Imrigo's mother that her youngest daughter had a horrible phobia of the creatures, she decided to cure her of it. Matron M'lanin locked Imrigo in the spider hatchery with the thought that either Imrigo would learn not to be afraid of spiders or the spiders would eat her and either way was fine. As it turned out, Imrigo's fear of spiders stemmed from the fact that whenever she came near the creatures she heard voices whispering things. She didn't understand what it was at first, and so she was very scared. From her experience in the hatchery, she discovered that what she was hearing was actually the voices of the spiders. She could understand them and talk back to them. When her mother returned several days later (not to get Imrigo, she probably forgot all about her) the matron was surprised and a bit pleased to see her daughter sitting in the middle of the hatchery happily allowing the spiders to crawl over her and petting and playing with the larger spiders. Matron M'lanin, being a devout follower of Minrou, took it as a sign that the goddess had found favor with Imrigo and decided to enroll her at once in the priestess school.
Imrigo had never much cared for her mother who had encouraged her other daughters to take every opportunity they could to make Imrigo's life miserable. Her father was the Weaponsmaster of the House. He was an honorable and kind-hearted person and perhaps one of the few bright spots in all of Imrigo's childhood. She spent as much time as she could with him and I personally think that her mother might have been a bit jealous about that. He became worried when Imrigo was to be sent to priestess school that she would return a much different person than when she left. (To clarify: As a child, Imrigo was a very sweet person. She wanted to please her parents, especially her mother because she thought that if she could please the woman, then perhaps she wouldn't be so mean to her. She gave up on it when her father explained that nothing she could do would ever be good enough for the Matron because she had already set in her mind that Imrigo could never achieve anything. Imrigo set out from that point on to prove her mother wrong in every possible way.) Imrigo promised her father that she would not let the priestess school change what he had taught her was right.
All children are expected to take basic weapons training as well as some basic training in religion. Sort of like a Kazyreth Sunday School of EVIL (and Imrigo would add "STUPID")
The priestess school is part of a compound up on the top tier of Darshez Nagaeron situated around and behind the Spider Temple which is perched on a broken column so that it resembles a spider descending upon its prey. The daughters of noble Houses are sent there to learn to be priestesses of Minrou. They are taught all the esential things: That males are worthless, your own wants and needs outweigh those of anyone else, and ambition is a very good thing. So Imrigo was taking some of the advanced weapons courses and some of the tactical courses at the Weapons School, so she had to balance out her schedules. She became very busy during this time. She excelled in her classes at priestess school, though she felt her teachers and fellow classmates were complete twits and found what was being taught to be completely shallow. It was around this time that she discovered the library in the priestess school. It held quite a few tomes on the history of the Kazyreth. She immersed herself in it whenever time would allow and started to feel that something about the history they were taught was amiss. She became quite obsessed with figuring out what it was. She had always hated priestess school, but was very good at spouting back the answers that her teachers wanted to hear. She became so good at it that her mother almost actually showed some pride in her. Almost.
Imrigo, as mentioned before, never wanted to become a priestess of Minrou. She wanted to become a mage. Though, her House would have been looked down upon if the noble daughter had chosen to become a mage over becoming a priestess. Her mother forbid her from going to Aerth'Tan Academy and was very pleased to see what a good Acolyte of Minrou Imrigo was becoming. Imrigo, however, was of the opinion that she should still be a mage. So she enrolled under an assumed name. (During this time, Imrigo's father had met and fallen very much in love with a commoner whose surname was Illiren La'arak. Imrigo liked her a lot. She was very kind and she felt that her father deserved to be with this woman rather then her mother. She also thought that Illiren was much prettier than her own mother. She was more than willing to keep her father's affair a secret.) She used the name Atrigan La'arak. Little did she know that this would set off alarms in the mind of the Archmage Leoch'shin Aerth'Tan who was also quite obsessed with Kazyreth history. He, however, didn't let on to that fact for quite some time. Imrigo specialized in ice magic. It being one of the few safe magics to use in the underground city. After she graduated from priestess school with flying colors, she devoted most of her time to studying the arcane in secret. (Her father kept her secret from her mother and she kept his)
Imrigo took to studying the arcane in secret, adopting the name Atrigan La'arak after the first queen of Darshez Nagaeron, Atrigan Maer'tzi and her father's lover Illiren La'arak. This sparked off some major alrams in the mind of the school's Archmage, Leoch'shin Aerth'Tan because, as he would point out, no one with that last name would give their daughter that first name. (Yes, there are reasons for that but they are not part of this story) So, he kept a close eye on "Atrigan". Imrigo proved to be quite a competent mage and Leoch'shin rather liked her. During her last years as a novice at the Academy, Imrigo took a particular interest in her instructor in enchantments, Thal'ashar Don'Ishla. Rumor had said that he was an even more accomplished mage than the Archmage himself, so she took to slipping after him and watching him, learning everything she could about him. Her goal: To see if she might discover some way to defeat him in a mage duel that she might take a measure of just how good her skills truly were. She watched him duel with others and noticed some oddities about the man aside from his physical appearance. (His skin, hair, and eyes, even the parts that should have been white, were black) He seemed very resistant to acid. At first, she thought it was some enchantment he had placed on himself, but looking closer she found that it was something in his very nature. After studying both him and some books, she came to the conclusion that he was, in fact, a black dragon in disguise and so set about figuring out how to defeat him (Note: She didn't want to kill him, just best him in as fair a duel as she could make it) When she finally challenged Thal'ashar, she had chosen the grounds carefully. (THere are places within Aerth'Tan Academy that amplify specific types of spells. She chose the one that amplified ice based spells.) The duel lasted for quite a while, finally ending in a stale mate with Thal'ashar revealing that he knew Imrigo's true identity and Imrigo revealing that she knew that the Enchanter was a black dragon. LEoch'shin appeared at that time, trying to figure out what had been going on. He began to call Imrigo by her assumed name, but the dragon stopped him, letting him know that she knew that they already knew who she really was and that she knew what he himself was. Thal'ashar decided that she was cunning and adaptive enough for him to take her on as his apprentice, much to Leoch'shin's surprise. (After his last apprentice, Thal'ashar had sworn never to take on another one).
During her time at the Academy, Imrigo frequently made stops down to the lower tiers of the city to visit with her father and his lover. She was very happy when she learned that they were going to have a child together and nearly ecstatic when the little girl was born and she was permitted to hold her baby sister who was named Youzuna (it means "hidden song"). She made sure to make time to visit whenever time permitted. She loved her father and his secret family fiercely and for a while, Imrigo experienced some of the best years of her life. She was happy, they were happy. Life was good.
The problem is that real happiness and love are not things that are valued in Darshez Nagaeron, and that all stemmed from the man-hating goddess of greed: Minrou. Imrigo's mother, remember, was a DEVOTED priestess of Minrou. Normally, Minrou wouldn't have bothered with a Weaponsmaster cheating on his Matron but for that fact and the fact that word got to her of the woman's surname: La'arak. (This will all make much more sense after I post up the ancient Kazyreth history) Minrou vowed to elminate the lovers, but as was her style, didn't want it directly traced to herself. So she put the word in Matron M'lanin's ear that her weaponsmaster hadn't been exactly faithful to her. That he'd been cozying up with a commoner and that they had a child together. Matron M'lanin was furious, as Minrou had hoped. The matron could not, however, find where her weaponsmaster had been going. It was then that she had a brilliant idea: Imrigo and her father had always been close, surely he had told her where he was going and surely she would tell her own mother. After trying to sweet-talk it out of her with no luck, the matron resorted to what she was best at... Physical cruelty. Her other daughters were more than happy to assist her in stripping Imrigo down, binding her arms and legs and beating her into submission. It took long hours of her mother striking her with a cat 'o ninetails and her sisters' more hands on approaches before she finally broke and revealed the whereabouts of her father and Illiren. (Her body was covered in lash marks. She still bears the scars and wears only long sleeved outfits to hide them) Her mother dragged her half conscious youngest daughter to the indicated place and forced Imrigo to watch as she murdered her father and Illiren. Meanwhile, Imrigo, struggling to remain conscious, called out to the spiders in the area to form a circle around her father, Illiren, and Youzuna. Her gage of her mother's character told her that the spiders would indicate that the family was protected by Minrou for some reason. She was too late to save her father and his lover, but the spiders encircled little Youzuna and forestalled any more attack by Imrigo's mother.
The incident with Imrigo's father and Illiren finally drove home to Imrigo what was wrong with the city: People weren't allowed to find true happiness or love and that all came back to one thing: MInrou. Minrou ruled the city but she did not care about her people. She kept them in a kind of self-perpetuat
ing slavery that she had convinced most of them they liked and even wanted. But Imrigo understood that a ruler needs to care about her people and she vowed that one day she would set the people of Darshez Nagaeron free. She was, however, aware that in order to do that, she would have to play by Minrou's rules until such time as she could reveal that her game and Minrou's weren't the same.
Imrigo spent most of her time studying the arcane with Thal'ashar and Leoch'shin and raising her younger sister and helping to keep her hidden. When Imrigo felt herself accomplished enough in magic, she finally confronted her elder sisters and her mother. She had also kept up on her advanced weapons classes, which earned her a specially crafted weapon in her chosen specialty. Her weapons would become known only as "The Gauntlets".
So, she picked off her sisters one by one either by spell or by force or by both. By the time she got to her mother, her six elder sisters were already dead. Her mother was quite smug in the fact that she thought she could easily defeat Imrigo, but she was unprepared for her daughter's sudden arcane attacks. The battle ended up with Imrigo encasing her mother in ice and using the gauntlets, tore the woman's heart from her chest.
Weapons:
The Gauntlets: A pair of fist weapons designed to give the wearer the protection of metal armor with the freedom of movement necessary to cast spells. They are designed not only to protect the wearer's hand, but to pierce through armor as well. The fingers are jointed like finger armor that hooks together to fit over the whole hand. A spade like blade on the back of the glove starts at the wrist and extended over the armor fingers to allow the wearer to punch through most armor.
When Imrigo lays her hands one on top of the other, the Gauntlets resemble a large metallic spider.
Magical Abilities:
Evocation: Through her training at Aerth'Tan Academy, Imrigo learned how to manipulate the elements of fire, lightning, water, ice, and acid. Her preferred element is ice.
Spider Talk: Imrigo has the ability to talk to, understand, and control spiders.
