Rinji is a moderately built man in his early thirties. He has the same pale skin and dark hair of his mountain kinsmen, though his skin seems somewhat darker and more leathery than most of his companions, because he spends most of his time in the wilds, hunting for his village or recreation. His eyes are a mild green. When in town he wears loose fitting clothing, usually in dark or dulled colors. When in the wild, he wears more tight-fitting, though not restrictive, clothing in similar tones, usually gray and brown to match the mountain terrain.
He doesn't appear to posess terrific strength, though hints of muscle show that he isn't a weakling, either. He carries several small slash-shaped scars that show evidence of fighting with natural beasts, but they are often covered by his loose clothing, and he is far from battle-scarred. Often he is seen with a smile, and moves gracefully from one place to the next. The general impression most get from him is that he is there to help them should they need it.
Personality
While Rinji is amiable and gentle, he is not sociable. He gets along with people well, but he doesn't enjoy simply chatting with people and goofing off. Often, he'll take the back seat when with his friends, and let them enjoy themselves. Rinji is a quiet and self-confident type of person that would prefer to do everything himself, though he will accept assistance when offerred. He views his rural village as his responsibility to protect and help as much as possible.
Rinji has a sense of humor, he just doesn't often share it. He prefers the solitude of the wild to the bustle of the village marketplace. However, when he isn't on his own, he can usually be found strolling the streets, looking for any signs of distress or need of his assistance. In a way, he is arrogant in assuming that everyone could use his help, though the villagers frequently appreciated his aid.
In terms of loyalty, it lies with the people in need. He is Lawful Good, playing by the rules and lending a hand whenever possible.
History
Rinji grew up in his rural village in the Hykotian mountains, and never knew contact with any other city. The village knew there were others, for their settlement was an outpost of the main empire, but contact had fallen over the years, and trade ceased entirely when the villagers became self sufficient. Being so wasn't easy, however, as the mountains yielded little farming land, so much of the village had to hunt their food. This was one of Rinji's most important roles to the village. He also served as an unofficial police force, being much more capable of a fighter than most of the village.
However, during one of Rinji's hunting expeditions, he came across another village whose condition was far worse than his own. The people were in need of food during a particularly harsh winter, and the general population were paupers. Shocked by their distress, he decided that his village could survive without him, and returned home only to pack his few belongings, explain his decision, and promptly left again, in search of ways he could help other villages more needy than his own.
His journey, however, has changed his ideals as he found fighting poverty was only a task the rich could do. Instead, he now travels as almost a mercenary, though he keeps a code of honor with him, and fights for those who need his strength for a just cause, rather than whoever pays the highest.
