The Ha Ha Sisterhood

This is worth a moment or two of thought....

Merry "Shut Your Effin' Mouth" Christmas

Dateline 11/26/06 Denver ~ A Colorado homeowner's association threatens to fine a resident $25.00 a day until she removes a Christmas wreath that incorporates a peace symbol in its design. A handful of her neighbors, 3 or 4 out of 200, had complained that it was: "an anti-Iraq war protest," "a symbol of Satan."

The wreath-owner refuses to take it down, even though she figures it will cost her $1,000 (at the rate of the $25 per day fine that has been threatened).

There are 200 homes in this subdivision, overseen by a 5-person homeowners committee, presided over by Bob Kearns, president of the Loma Linda Homeowners Association in Pagosa Springs, Colorado. Kearns ordered the five committee members to require that the "divisive" wreath be removed. They refused, saying it was merely a seasonal symbol that didn't say anything. Kearns fired the five.

Dateline 11/28/06 Denver ~ The subdivision withdraws its threat of $25 daily fines against the Christmas Peace wreath. The 3-member Loma Linda H.O. Board of Directors apologizes to the owner, calls the threats of fines a "misunderstanding." None of the three members of the board is available for comment. Kearns and another, Jeff Heitz, had their phone numbers changed to unlisted. The third board member, Tammy Spazze, is not returning calls to messages left for her.

The homeowner/wreath-owner said, "We are grateful to hundreds of complete strangers who felt so moved by this story they contacted us. We received calls from people who called themselves grandmas, mothers, military families, veterans, devout Christians, agnostics, atheists, a Rabbi, veterans of various wars, people with children in Iraq," she said.

Many offered donations to help pay fines.

"It seems whenever someone tries to say 'Peace on Earth' it is met with so much resistance," she said. "The incredible amount of support we have received over the last couple of days really is proof to us of how many people believe in peace and in our right to say it."

QQ: Ah, for once then, a happy ending! ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Return to Page 1 of The Ha Ha Sisterhood
