Gears 'n Things. Pencil on paper, 2008.
This was really just a sketch, to get back to drawing machines like this again. There is something very good for me in just working in pencil on paper, something primeval and natural. The pencil is an extension of my hand as much as the camera is an extension of my eye. In a way though, drawing is also an exercise in seeing, you let your eyes dwell on things. That's one of the reasons I draw things that I like (like machines), because I can let my eyes dwell and linger on the object - to the point of obsession. There is a difference between things that I obsess over and things that are treasure. I do not draw treasure. I do not look at treasure very often either. It's too precious to be seen a lot, it is to be kept and looked at in special cases only.
