Kub Kar Creation 2011

Of course we start with the important stuff: NEW TOOL ACQUISITION!

Next comes shaping the wooden block into the preferred design. Here [Acerbus] is doing the rough cuts on our daughter Grace's kub kar with an extremely crappy jigsaw.

Next step: finish cuts! Or rather, me using my new rotary tool to get the block closer to the shape Grace wanted.

And here is the finished block after Grace smoothed everything out by hand sanding. Now the fun part: PAINTING!

The arteest at work! And yes the cheezy grin she's sporting actually translates into 'Dad, I'm trying to paint here. Do you mind?' Luckily she also never misses a photo op!

So while Grace is having fun painting, poor me is still at the shaping and sanding part. whee.

Fast forward a bit and TAH DAAAHHH!! Grace's kar is all painted and looks awesome! Great job darlin'!

Ok... finished shaping using the rotary tool, finished smoothing by hand sanding and finished the base coat of paint: silver acrylic obviously. Now for the detail work...

Yeah, made the mistake of asking [Acerbus] what sort of detailing the car should have and he suggested the Pontiac Firebird symbol. Of course my muses thought that was a great idea and so it began. Gah...

Ok so its not looking too bad so far. I wasn't sure of the purple & green colour scheme [Acerbus] also suggested but it does look hawt on the silver.

When it comes to cars, flammage is fun! A little cliche perhaps but fun nonetheless!

Added some token windows but decided not to bother outlining doors. I didn't want to clutter it up or potentially make a mistake since it would take a lot of silver paint to cover anything up. *grumbles about silver paint being karl*

The back looked horribly empty so of course I slapped on tail lights and a license plate. Lookin' gooood... XD

Tah dah!! All done! And it only took me a day to do without any major mishaps. w00t!

Little closer look at the Firebird detail. Not completely to Pontiac specs I'm sure but I like it!

The back end all done. In case its hard to see, the plate is 'CNT DRV 55'. If you don't know what that is, obviously you need to listen to more Van Halen. XD
