THE COLOURS
Part of what makes MTG such a great game is the concept of the colour wheel. Most cards belong to a colour, and each colour has a distinct "conciousness" that goes far beyond a simple element or allignment.
WHITE
Allignment:
good
Ally colours:
Green and Blue
Enemy colours:
Red and Black
The ends:
Peace. White wants the world to live in harmony, believing that conflict is superficial.
The means:
Damage prevention and stall tactics. The typical white mage will avoid direct fighting, because white will often lose in an all-out conflict. However, most white mages aren't afraid to lay some rightous beatdown before they go. White is the colour of rightousness, honour, life and humility.
typical tactics:
tapping creatures
life gain / damage prevention
artifact / enchantment destruction
white abilities
vigilance
flying
defender

BLUE
Allignment:
neutral
Ally colours:
White and Black
Enemy colours:
Red and Green
The ends:
Control. Blue wants to know what makes you tick, and it wants you to tick to the beat of its drum.
The means:
Knowledge, knowledge, knowledge! The typical blue mage knows that knowledge is power, and strives to learn all he can from himself and others. A blue mage will also tend to avoid attacking directly, perferring to negate an opponant's aggression until the time is right. Blue is the colour of Illusion, deception, knowledge and secrecy.
typical tactics:
tapping / untapping perminants
card drawing
bouncing
counterspells
blue abilities

The ends:
Power, at any cost. Black wants nothing less then to have the world bow before it.
The means:
By any means necessary. The typical Black mage will be able to do nearly anything, but at great cost to himself. But pain matters nothing to Black, in its mind, the end justifies any and all means. Black is the colour of death, decay, torment and dispair

Freedom. Red wants to anything and everything, and rules only get in the way.
The means:
Destruction! rules mean nothing when no one's there to enforce them! The typical Red mage can be found flinging spells at anything and everything, caring nothing for the value of what is lost. Red is the colour of passion, freedom, destruction and lawlessness.

GREEN
Allignment:
Lawful
Ally colours:

Harmony. Green believes that we are simply dissenting parts of a single entity.
The means:
Through simplicity. Green hides nothing, and lets itself be judged openly by others. The green mage does not conceal strength. As one said:

Green is the colour of Simplicity, Honesty, Naturality and Strength.
