Sierra - Miles

Good Bond

She was a lot more fierce than she looked. She moved with ease, grace and power that belied her small frame and pretty face. It was like she was floating, her feet never seemed to touch the ground and her fingers, spinning about the training staff, were locked hard, slightly scuffed, but still somehow feminine.

Miles needed to stop thinking of his sister as just a pretty girl, she was very capable of defending herself. He could tell with the way she moved. He, however, was reluctant to give her his full potential. Which is where he failed, miserably.

She side-stepped one of this thrusts, and it shouldn’t have surprised him, but it did. The drow turned slightly but didn’t raise his own staff fast enough. The end of her staff cracked him on the side of the head just above his left eyebrow and dots of white danced across his vision. His fingers weakened and he dropped the training weapon. He fell to his knees since suddenly the world felt very much like it was spinning magnificently fast.

“Miles, I’m sorry, are you all right?” Sierra gasped, tossing aside the weapon she had just used to clobber her brother in the face with. It clattered loudly as it rolled away, only to halt innocently near the end of the sparing circle, “Oh, geez, I’m so sorry.”

Miles tried to smile but his temple was throbbing and his eyes failed to focus. He fought the drowsiness for a moment, but finally unable to deny it any longer he gave in…

…He awoke, lying on the floor with something cold pressed to his temple. His head was propped up under what felt and smelt like sweaty training outfits. He blinked his eyes and reached up to gently touch the tender spot over his eye. That… was going to leave a mark. Even on his dark ebony skin, he was sure of it.

“Miles? Are you all right? I’m… really… sorry.”

The drow squinted up at his sister. She looked like she was about to cry—this was the face that he couldn’t chase away when he had sparred her—glistening lavender eyes, full pouty lips, and an overall innocent and sweet-natured oval face. He had been wrong to underestimate her. He had paid with a throbbing welt for it.

“No, Sierra, please, don’t worry. It was my fault. I should have dodged that move.”

She had finally convinced him—a well renowned fighter, worshiped for his grace and for his skill, had finally convinced him to spare with her—and he had lost. He had lost to a petite, adorable young woman who was known for jumping in between sibling quarrels and hugging them into submission. He had…

Miles started to laugh and his entire body shook with the sincerity of it. He brought his hands up to cover his face, trying to hide the magnificent grin that was shinning through. Sierra really had bested him, and she had done damn well.

“Oh, no. Miles? Are you all right? Did I knock something lose in there?” the practicing medical student placed her hands on the sides of her face, shaking her head fiercely. “If I’ve gone and made you dumb, I think that Daddy will ground me for the rest of my life.” She moaned, leaning forward and let out a little whine, “Why did I force you to do this? I’m so sorry, Miles. I promise, I’ll take care of you for the rest of—“

Miles finally forced his laughter away and he had to wipe away the tears of mirth that were rolling down his cheeks. “I-I’m fine, Sierra. Really.” He gingerly sat up, wincing as he felt the blood in his head pulsate painfully on the knot on his face. This was something he was not going to forget any time soon. Next time they spared, he was going to give Sierra the respect she deserved. “When did you learn to fight, Sierra? I never knew you were so talented.”

“Talented? Braining my little brother is talent?” she sighed loudly, gently lifting the cold rag and placing it on the swollen area she had caused. Miles winced slightly, but allowed the doctor-in-training to try and ease her own anxiety by tending to him. “I… well, I guess Ed and I have been working on some things.”

Which would explain the control. Had Miles been sparring with anyone else, a potentially fatal blow like the one Sierra had given him would have been stopped before it landed. Edward was not one to display control in his training… Had she learned from Aeres, like Miles had, she probably would have never even come close to landing the hit, but would have instead, scored a mock one that would have been acknowledged mutually by the competitors.

“Ahhh,” the handsome drow slowly nodded. He did not dare comment on what he really thought about her training under Edward.

“Miles, are you going to be all right?”

“Oh, yes. Aeres has given me a few good beatings before. I can handle this. I just… need a few minutes.” He chuckled… at least there was no blood, right?

The lavender-eyed woman moved the cloth slightly and Miles grinned through the sudden pain.

Underneath that pretty façade she really was a fierce warrior. The bruise he would carry for the next month would be a constant reminder to him and to everyone else. Miles was greatly humbled, and knew that in their next spare he would see her in a different light.

Miles was very excited to have a new and worthy sparring partner.

A/N: 8/81 story bonds completed for my project to get to know my characters.

Miles, still, sweet as he is, is kind of dumb sometimes. When I wrote this, I really couldn't think of anything these two could do together that wouldn't overlap with that freaking garden or Miles being overly sensitive... and so this was born. -shakes his head- And all I could think about was his cat named Puddles and I kept laughing. ><;;

This is really, in all honesty, the first time I've ever written anything with Sierra. She really is just a name on a character sheet with a personality that's written down but has never been utilized. She kind of mirrors Kaelin with her actions, but she's not as demure as him. I'm actually looking forward to developing her more, but at the same time really dreading it since she practically is brand new for me to write with even though she's existed on paper for several years..
