TRLS Chapter 3

for The Begining go to:The Random Life Story, Chapter 2: TRLS pg2

"Undead is so totally not fair!" Brevian complained. "Maybe - yeah, you get three lives. Only you don't just get plugged down in one spot, after you die you go over to your leader and he gives you your next life. Sound good?"

"Okay. Sounds fair to me. BANG! BANG!" She pretended to shoot Brevian and Lorenzo and started laughing. "This is fun."

"Bang!" The boys declared, jumping to hide behind assorted pieces of furniture. "Ha! Bang!" Brevian diverolled to a better spot.

Miya dived to the ground and crawl like an army man behind and unused bar. She just up and aimed at Lorenzo, "Bang!" She aimed at Brevian, "Bang!" She started laughing so hard that she almost had tears in her eyes. She had never laughed this hard since Ying died. Miya came to a relizeation. She sat with her back against the wall behind the bar. Life will never be the same. Her friends knew that and tried to comfort her but she was in complete denial. She missed her family. People had dies all around her and she had even killed...Brevian...she thought, Sasha, Alex. They all have been there for me. Memories came flooding back to her and tears swelled in her eyes and she started to cry. I must find my parents and figure out my past. For them. It'll all be for them...

"Bang!" Lorenzo shouted, popping up from behind the bar. Then he realized what was going on, and dropped his hands from their play-gun position. "Are you all right?" He asked worriedly, and half afraid he was going to make everything worse. Things were so much easier when the tears were over a scrape or something.

Lorenzo had scared Miya and she had skidded away backward on her butt. She sniffled. "Y-Yes..." she said in a hoarse whisper.

"What's wrong?" Lorenzo pursued, popping over the bar to sit on it, and hoping he wasn't invading. Behind him, Brevian considered shooting him, but realized the game was paused. Indefinitely. He wondered why, having been too far away to hear what was going on, and edged closer. It did not occur to him that this fell under the category of 'eavesdropping'.

"N-Nothing..." Miya replied quietly as she whiped her nose on her sleve. A fire started in the fireplace instantly as it started snowing. Miya got up and flopped on a couch by the fire as she felt chilled by something. With Miya's dragon skin she doesn't feel any type of cold or hot unless it is magic induced. She pulled her legs up to her chest as she stared into the fire. The firelight reflected in her eyes made them look even more sad. A lot had happened in the last two years since she reunited with her friend Tsome. Sasha had entered into the room since the bar had closed due to Miya's laugh that scared everyone out. She came over and sat by Miya putting a comfortive arm around and said, "It's okay." Sasha knew exactly what was on Miya's mind.

Lorenzo shifted uncomfortably, and at last decided that he should go get Anessa. He could always just summon her back, but looking for her gave him a chance to go somewhere less... whatever it was in here, and to feel the night. "I'm going to go find Anessa." He commented to no one in particular, and went outside.

Brevian, meanwhile, was edging closer. His Miya was not happy. He didn't know why she wasn't, but she wasn't. Just, suddenly, not happy. He knew what that was like, because he remembered Kilea; but he pushed that aside. Right now, he wanted to make Miya feel better, so he watched to see what he could do.

Sasha was whispering stuff into Miya's ear like "What's wrong?", "Everything's okay", and "We'll always be here for you". Miya slowly started to stop crying. Then she poured her feelings out talking to Sahsa and she didn't care who else heard she just said whatever came to her mind. "I need to find out about my past. My family's gone now and I want to find out more about my real mother and father. I feel so empty. You guys all love me and take care of me but nothing can replace a parents love. I lost my family that I thought was mine and I found myself alone. I want to go back to that house and found out more...for me, for you, for Alex, and mostly for Brevian. He's been so nice to me and he's put up with me and my constant mood swings. I don't know where I'd be without him or you guys." She looked up at Sasha with tearly eyes filled with love and she gave Sasha a big hug.

Brevian considered this - the beginning, anyway, as the end made him feel almost uncomfortably flattered. He wasn't like that, not really. So he focused on the bit about finding her family. Or finding out about them, anyway. He had considered finding his, once or twice, but it had never seemed important, since he had such nice friends.

But he could find Miya's family for her. He could just phase out, and then he'd be where he could find them. But he had to be careful, in case they were really far away.

I want to go to where I can find out about Miya's family - not the family itself, but where I can find out about it - and I want to take my violin with me, and I want to stop if it's more than, um, ten miles off, so I can make decisions about food and where to go and where I am and stuff. Overall, I want to get my violin and then go to find out about Miya's family, but stop at the edge of a ten-mile radius. And he was gone.

Miya fell asleep on the couch, throughly exhasted from the emotional stress that had been put on her body. Draconians were not meant to have hearts and emotions; that's what made her so special. She feel into a deep sleep and began to dream. Hazily at frist, but it began to increase in time until it felt as though she was living it. A palace stood on a hill with gravestones surrounding it. Miya looked around causiously as spirits around her began to float up from the graves. They were in a daze, heading to the dark palace. Miya felt a chill as a ghost passed through her. She started following the ghosts into the castle. She was a few feet away form the door when a voice as gentle as a breeze but as mighty as lightning boomed, "Do not follow those who have walked in vain. Use your heart and brain to find those who will lead and teach you to leave your own trail. Slove this riddle and find the clues. The key to your home is not rusted or burnt, but lies within someone." Miya awoke with a start. Her breathing came in short breaths and she felt sweat running down her face and back. She breathed one word, "Brevian."

Ten miles was farther than Brevian had given it credit for. He figured it would give him a nice area he could cover, but not take overly long. Some time, but not three hours, at the end of which, when he recovered his senses, he felt distinctly woozy and had to promptly sit down. He didn't think it was the traveling that provoked the feeling so much as the prolonged effect of being in his unconscious movement state. Whichever, he sat down for a moment and waited for the world to stop spinning so he could make decisions.

Miyawiped sweat from her forehead and pulled the blanket Sasha had laid on her closer around towards her body. She was cold inside and was shivering. She was confused. Whatever happened within her dream was not human. She blinked a few times trying to shake off whatever had hold of her. She tried to use her dragon sence to reach out to find where Brevian had gone, but it hurt her brain. What's going on? She tried again and a serring pain invaded her brain. She landed on the floor with a thud. Her brain hurt. She had never had so much pain; breaking bones never hurt as much. She rocked back and forth on her knees holding her head and let the tears flow from her eyes. Brevie...where are you? I need to feel your presence...why can't I feel you?! she thought. The pain in her hurt intensified the pain within her head.

Lorenzo was walking idly in the night. He'd been walking for a while, actually, looking for Anessa. If he needed to find her, of course, he could always call, and she would come; or he could call her a different way, and she would have to come. But he liked being in the night, enough that he'd walked some distance before he remembered he'd have to walk the same distance back, and at that point he realized he was cold and tired and lonely, and Anessa was too small to take him back, so he'd either have to camp until morning or work a summoning, which he didn't want to do, and probably wasn't supposed to. So he called Anessa, who could at least do some scouting for him, in the polite, optional way.

Brevian, meanwhile, stood up and looked around. He was lost, and still a little dizzy. That over there - he thought that was a road sign, maybe. He started to walk in that direction, then stopped and sat down again. He was still dizzy. And he was missing something. He sat and thought for a moment. His violin. It was... oh, good, right back where he'd been sitting, which he could reach from here. His head ached. Or possibly just spun still.

Sasha came down from her house upstairs. "Miya, babe, what's wrong?"

"I can't feel him. He's become my only family now and he's gone. I don't know where he's gone but I can't feel him." Miya sniffled. "I don't want him to ever leave me and now he did."

"It's okay. Miya. We're here for you, and he will come back." Sasha engulfed her in a big hug. "It will all be okay," she whispered in her ear.

Miya told Sasha about her dream and how Brevian was the clue to everything about her family. Alex came walking down the stairs, yawning and ruffling his already messed up hair. "Oh," he mumbled when he saw Miya lying on the floor. "I'll get something warm for us to drink." Sasha nodded in aproval and continued to hug Miya. Miya had stopped crying but had big bags under her eyes. Her eyes and nose were red with irritation and there were tear stairs on her shirt. Alex brought over some steaming hot cocoa, passed it out, and sat down with them on the floor. "It will all be okay. We're your family now and we will never leave you."

Brevian picked up his violin and headed for the road sign. He wanted to know where he was, but all it said was the speed limit. That was not helpful. Brevian considered. Then he decided to go close to where he could find Miya's family, but not go beyond ten feet. He did this, marked where it was with a pile of stones, and went back to the stop sign and tried 'go back to Miya, no farther than ten feet though' and marked that with stones as well. Then he returned to the road sign and looked at both piles of stones, trying to figure out which way to go.

Anessa, meanwhile, came spiralling down out of the sky to Lorenzo and perched on his shoulder. ~You called?~ She asked.

"I was lonely." Lorenzo told her. "And I think I walked too far. I wanted to ask you what's in this general area."

Anessa considered. ~Not much. You sure picked a path. Trees. Grass. Bushes. Most things are asleep, actually. There's a road over there.~ She pointed with her tail. ~If you follow it for a while, there's a boy. I don't know where it goes, though, in either direction.~

Miya was quiet and didn't really drink much of the hot cocoa, but she was grateful for it. Sasha took the drink from Miya when she noticed she wasn't drinking any of it. "Hey," she said quietly. "Let's get you home, okay? Can you open up for me, Alex?" Alex nodded and left the room to open up for the day. Sasha helped Miya up and set the drinks down on a side table. Together they went outside into the chilly air. Miya started to feel better being in the nice fresh air as the sun began to rise over the horizen. They continued to walk down the street in silence.
