The Birth of Pegasus

by Steve Doyle

Poor girl!
Thus are you released from my curse:
Your blood seeping into the sand
As Perseus escapes
With your severed head in hand.

For your vanity you were punished;
Your beauty taken away.
You've lived as a hideous monster
Until this very day.

But I shall gather up your blood
And with it I shall cast
A creature whose great beauty
Shall never be surpassed.

A splendid steed it shall be
Capable of flight.
With magnificient wings
And a brilliant coat of white.

None who gaze upon him
Shall ever turn to stone.
Yet none shall ever tame him
Without this bridle of gold.

Therefore, Medusa
Free from any curse
Rise up again as Pegasus
For I now give you birth.

2006-11-05 [stevedoyle]: The goddess Minerva is the one who put the curse on Medusa that turned her into an ugly Gorgon. Medusa had said she was more beautiful than the Goddess. When Perseus finally killed her, Minerva took pity upon her and created Pegasus from her blood.

2006-12-15 [Artsieladie]: Nice poem! Hi, there! :D How are you?
Wow! There are about as many versions to Greek Mythology as stars in the heavens...well, maybe not quite, but close. I wanted to put up a poem I've been writing, but I wanted to make sure I got my images done first. Is there a deadline for the poetry part to Pegasus? :P

2006-12-16 [stevedoyle]: I think the deadline was December 15th.

2006-12-16 [Artsieladie]: Oh...I guess I can't be in too many places at once! lol :/
