The Neurotic's Spring
It is hard even for the confirmed neurotic to ignore the glory of spring, but it can be done. Indeed, dark thoughts and anxiety can make a fascinating counterpoint to a world that is all aborning and atwit.
The main thing to remember about spring is that summer is close at hand, then fall, and then it will be winter again almost before you realize it. Add to this common belief that each year whizzes by more quickly than the last (by the time you are 80 you barely have enough time to unwrap your birthday presents - if you get any - before you turn 81) and you will find yourself in a dither that even the most insistent robin or daffodil will be unable to untangle.
The spring is the time for other people to fall in love, to hatch grand, ambitious plans, to get themselves back in shape. Neurotics, meanwhile, continue along much as before. They dream of a love that is unattainable, they produce grand plans but they do not hatch them, and they either put off getting into shape until tomorrow or, if they do start running, they can't stop.
Spring is difficult. It is a hurdle that must be cleared. Just don't let it get to you.
