This contest was inspired by our needs for creative outlet and the handful of contests that allowed that. I have always been disappointed that you have to actually dig deeply to find anything close to the orginial story behind a deity. Anybody else who is a mythology fan is more than welcome to join.
Whether it be Raishu the thunder beast, the phoenix and dragon mates of China, the sirens of the sea, dragons, the gods and goddesses, the Easter bunny...let your creative minds go! Write a poem, retell the myth (in your own words of course), draw a picture, paint a picture, sculpt a statue! Do whatever comes to mind!
http://www.lowchensaustralia.com/names/gods.htm is an excellent place to start research.
Rules:
1. Don't steal artwork. Come on, what's the fun of entering without the pride of it being yours?
2. Follow the theme set down by: [
wicked fae mage]. The theme is simply mythology. It can be from any set of myths: Greek, Norse, Roman, Egyptian, Indian etc. I just wanna see how you interpret deities.
3. Violence and pornographic depictions are acceptable since both are human and deity nature.
4. Mediums: Drawings, photos, photo manips, paintings, poems, stories...what
ever your creative mind allows. Perhaps I'll make sub-wikis for the different mediums?
5. Three entries per person. I may wanna change that, but for now that seems fine *shrugs*
6. No deadline set yet. I'll fill it in when there is n.n
7. The pics do not have to be scanned, just upload them to Elftown so the links aren't broken and so everybody can see yer work ^^
8. I'm not setting a limit to how many entries can have a myth surrounding a particular deity or myth though I am encouraging a lot of creativity and fun
9. Entries here like this:
0. "Title" and the deity/deities depicted (if that's not the title)
username with the [] thingies
Entry location or the entry
A short description about the myth and deity/deities.

3. "Pleasure, Pure Pleasure...." (Dionyssus)
[wicked fae mage]
(This god is just for show since I own this contest)
This is the Greek god of pleasure. My model was my beloved fiance Brett ([occult rogue]). Since Dionyssus is the god of pleasures, why not use his myth? Most simply dismiss him as the god of wine. He is the god of pleasure: specifically female orgasm. Women were sent into the mountains for two weeks to celebrate Dionyssus. They paraded around nude and drank lots of wine while eating grapes and just being wild. Men often wondered what the women did to honor him since only women were allowed to know the secrets behind the secluded ceremony. =3
4. "A fairy dies..." [Shjahjdahdvwa]
When a politican lies, a fairy dies
When film is ruined, a fairy dies
Odious realestate developers give fairies the serious lurgy
Spam kills fairies
When you cheat a fairy dies.
With this new era... More and more fairies are dying. Gah I miss the old days.
5. Pandora's box [LinkTurrner]
In Greek mythology, Pandora was the first woman on earth. Zeus ordered Hephaestus, the god of craftsmanship, to create her and he did, using water and earth. The gods endowed her with many talents; Aphrodite gave her beauty, Apollo music, Hermes persuasion, and so forth. Hence her name: Pandora, "all-gifted". When Prometheus stole fire from heaven, Zeus took vengeance by presenting Pandora to Epimetheus, Prometheus' brother. With her, Pandora had a jar which she was not to open under any circumstance. Impelled by her natural curiosity, Pandora opened the jar, and all evil contained escaped and spread over the earth. She hastened to close the lid, but the whole contents of the jar had escaped, except for one thing which lay at the bottom, and that was Hope.
6. Morrighan[Desi the Red Rose]
A bird of black shinny feathers
flys over the battleground
she who choses the living and
those who lay on their shields.
Goddess of death
Her name means Phantom Queen
The one is called Morrighan.
Any woman who a warrior

Queen of Beauty
Queen of Magic
Queen of ghost is the one called
Morrighan.
Queen of battle
Swords clash

as the bird who is Morrighan

7.Pheonix InfinityHypothosis
Rise fourth from the ashes
Fire red, burn bright like sunset bleed and yawn
As darkness gives in to mourn
The pheonix, golden crested and feathered adorned
In one might swoop
Reborn
To excise long-standing truths
As she rises, into the sky
She takes a look back on the world
The world she leaves
And can scarcely believe
The violence and destruction
That dances on the street
Invade the home, and invade the mind
But she provides the light
For those who wish to see
And for those who wish to be set free
Reborn
Like the feathered, winged, mighty pheonix
Rekindled dreams, and fires that burn
