X-Men: New Year's Eve

Who: Casper, Devlin, Kaia, Kyle, Rage
What: A poorly-timed severe weather drill, called by Danger.
Where: The Elevator A car, stopped halfway in the shaft between the Basement and the Underground Complex 1st Floor.
When: 11:28, thirty-two minutes until the New Year.

X-Men Time

Saturday, December 31st

The abrupt halt of the elevator made Kaia grip the handrail along the back wall. “Hit the button again.” She said quickly. Her shimmering knee-length pink champagne cocktail dress cast twinkles around the small space. The color was light but it complemented her reddish brown skin tone well. Matching pale pink nail polish tipped her fingers and toes and gold wedge heels were a drastic change from her usual black converse. Her black hair was let down to fall in shiny waves around her shoulders, which were wrapped in a metallic gold scarf. A freshwater pearl bracelet draped gently around her wrist; the outfit was finished off by the smoky eyeliner and gold mineral eye shadow that brought out the honey tones of her brown eyes. She was dressed to ring in the New Year as a new, more confident girl.

Devlin tapped the ground floor button repeatedly. "Nothing." He took off his mirrored aviator shades and put them in his leather jacket's inner pocket. He tapped the doors. "We might be able to pry these open and climb out to whichever floor we're on." Out of the four of them, he suspected he might be the strongest, though perhaps Casper had the ability to shift into somebody bigger. Either way, he had a bad feeling about what they might find on the other side of the doors.

'Yeah, hit it again, bet it's gonna do just as good as the last ten goddamn times we hit it,' Kyle spat, his voice still raspy from his upper respiratory infection. The misanthropic young man had taken-up residence in the corner of the elevator car, huddling down low to the ground. The dim emergency light overhead gave his ochre-colored skin an even stranger cast than usual, and, unlike the some of the others, it seemed that he was in no way dressed in the spirit of celebrating New Year's Eve, as he was in his usual shabby grey hoodie, dingy tee shirt and well-worn jeans.

"Well this sucks." Rage giggled as the elevator jolted to a stop. She was dressed to the max, a long flowing white dress draped over her slender body with a slit running up all the way to her thigh. A golden chain was looped several times around her waist to complete the outfit along with her short hair having been styled to remain loose and spiky. She'd already been well on her way to being trashed for New Years and was considerably tipsy if not just plain drunk, even though she managed to maneuver her white heels with ease.

Casper had located himself in the corner of the lift and was staring up at everything with wide, blood-red eyes. He looked more lost than ever and honestly had no clue what was actually happening. Kyle's drawl pulled the albino's attention towards the yellow-skinned mutant, and the boy blinked twice before he reprimanded him in a matter-of-fact tone, "You're not s'post to say bad words, mister." Because of Kyle's tendency to seclude himself, Casper really didn't know the boy all that well and had only seen him sparingly in the halls, so he resorted to referring to him with more formality. He glanced back over at the wall of buttons in the elevator, unsure really of what to do. He saw one button - bright red - that spelled out a word he knew must have meant something important. Without saying a word, the boy reached over and, with his index finger, gingerly poked the Emergency Call button.

Kaia didn’t think she was strong enough to even attempt prying the door, so she didn’t respond to Devlin’s suggestion. Crossing her arms over her chest, she glared at Kyle after his rude comment. “I can fix that cold but I can’t heal a bad attitude.” She turned her back to him and admired Rage’s outfit. “Rage, do you have anything to drink with you?” The alcohol was making the older girl’s aura swirl in a wild way that made Kaia smile and forget she was mad at the yellow boy or worried about the elevator. Might as well make the most of it. The albino boy and his splotchy multicolored aura moved silently in her peripheral vision but she was focused on trying to have fun.

"Duh!" Rage giggled as she grabbed her gold matte crocodile biking bag and started digging through it. "Hmmm... not that." She muttered as a plastic bag half filled with dried leaves dropped to the floor. "Oops." She giggled and quickly picked it up and tucked it back into her purse before she finally pulled out a couple water bottles. One of them could've passed for water but the other was filled with a dark brown liquid. She held them up and looked at Kaia, "Vodka or Whiskey?" She asked with a triumphant smile, completely forgetting, for the moment that she was encouraging drinking in front of a small child.

Devlin frowned at Kyle's comment, but left him to his pessimism. It was Casper who had the sense to try the emergency button, but that proved as useful as his pressing of the ground floor button. He briefly looked round to see Rage drop what was probably a baggy of weed and offer some drinks to the other girl in the lift. He smirked as he turned back to the door - if they were stuck, they could at least have their own party. He tried getting his fingers between the two door panels, unsuccessfully.

'Well, shiiiiit, I'm rrrrrreal sorry. I'll be sure to watch my mouth, ' Kyle said in a lilting, mock-apologetic retort to Casper, with whom he was likewise unfamiliar. In fact, other than maybe in passing over the last week since he'd returned from his travels of misfortune, he wasn't particularly well-acquainted with anyone in the elevator car. The school must have gotten a sudden influx of students in the time since he'd left the Mansion with Korvka, searching for greener pastures elsewhere. As he looked to Kaia who sort of offered to help him, he pointedly sniffled back two nostrils-full of snot as noisily as he possibly could. 'I ain't broke, and I don't need no fixin',' he said as he tried to worm his way back further into the corner, even though it was an impossibility. Mostly, he was concerned with making sure not to be on the receiving end of Rage, should her sloppy-drunkedness lead to sick-drunkedness. He fell into a testy silence-- he wouldn't admit it now, but he thought that Devlin had a plausible idea, at least, when it came to trying to open the doors. While his foul attitude was in up and running order, however, Kyle's already skinny body was still recovering from the effects of hunger and dehydration, and he didn't want to humiliate himself by trying to help and failing, which the guy with the funny-looking legs was doing well enough on his own.

The albino's face wrinkled up with discontent as the push of the Emergency Call button did exactly nothing. He tried again, this time pressing the button a little harder and a little longer, but still to no avail. With a puff of air escaping through his nose, he turned back to the others. His frown deepened as Kyle continued to swear, but before Casper could preach more on the subject, he was distracted by Kaia and Rage's discussion on drinks. "Do you have a juice box?" he asked abruptly and rather excitedly, his eyes widening and lips parting with hope. While he waited for a reply, he watched silently as Devlin tried to pry the door open. The boy looked briefly between Rage and Devlin, and quietly, he announced, "I can help," but gave no explanation as to how.

Kaia smiled and reached for the whiskey Rage offered, paying little attention to the pot. “Ooh, thanks!” After taking a swig she returned the bottle and wiped her mouth on the back of her hand. The burn ran down her throat and spread warmth up from her belly to tingle along the back of her neck. Kaia noticed her aura reacted as well by spreading out more freely than usual. Kyle’s gross refusal of her powers made her roll her eyes and turn her back to him completely and cross tan arms over her chest. Finally, she looked at the small albino boy who was huddled in the corner and listened to his request for juice. His innocence made her chest clench up and she bit her plump bottom lip to keep the Awww in her head from slipping out.

"Mmmm... crap." Rage frowned when Casper asked for juice. She rummaged through her purse again and this time pulled out half a bottle of orange juice. She'd been using it to mix with her drinks upstairs and hadn't meant to bring it down with her, though now she was glad she had. "Will this work?" She asked the little boy as she held out the bottle, "I didn't drink from it. Only poured." She said with a smile, "Will you help us?" She added, curious to see how the little boy would pull it off, though she was familiar with his powers.

Devlin turned to Casper and smiled at the young boy. "Come on little man, show me what you can do," he said warmly. He then turned to Rage and pointed at the alcohol Kaia was holding. "Mind if I have a drab?" he asked. While they were stuck he felt he might as well have a bit of a drink.

His backside squeaked against the highly-polished surface of the brushed steel wall as Kyle did his best to settle as far away from the others, which wasn't particularly far at all, of course. With everyone's attention off of him, the grumpy, freckled mutant started to rifle around in his pockets, wrappers both empty and full noisily crinkling until he found the granola bar he was looking for. The scrawny mutant also produced a small bottle of water from somewhere in the recesses of his worn clothing before starting on his snack, pointedly ignoring the others as he did so.

Casper continued to look up at Rage expectantly, and when she produced the half-empty bottle of orange juice, Casper took it from her a little too excitedly. "Thanks!" he cried just before unscrewing the cap and putting the bottle to his lips, tilting it up and swallowing whatever went into his mouth (tough some managed to'make it's way out of the bottle and onto his upper lip and chin, and even a few droplets onto his shirt). "Ahh!" the young man let out after finishing the drink off completely. He closed the bottle and set it down on the floor of the elevator before looking up to the others, who all seemed eager for him to help. After a few seconds of silence, the young albino announced, as if it were completely normal, "I have to take my clothes off first."

Devlin took the hint and smiled as he turned away. While it wouldn't bother him, he could respect Casper's need for privacy. Facing the elevator wall, he whistled a tuneless melody. With a sudden thought, he called out. "Any chance that drink might make it round to me?"

The rather large swig of whiskey was hitting Kaia a little harder than she expected, causing her to bubble into a fit of uncontrollable laughter. Still laughing, she doubled over with tears in her eyes trying to catch her breath. Unfortunately, the movement swung her so far off balance that she toppled over onto her hands and knees on the floor. Through the fall her guffaws turned into giggles and she sat back on her butt against the wall, kicking her legs out from under her and crossing her ankles with her gold wedges in the middle of the elevator. "Sorry, sorry" She started, still laughing. "I'm a lightweight."
