About the artist and why this picture was chosen for the daily picture:

It's almost impossible for me to believe [Lady Di] when she says that this is the first Gryphon she's ever drawn. It's very impressive in itself, much less as a beginning attempt. The inspiration to draw one came from a friend's gryphon, as well as the desire to draw something new. What's even more is all the thought put into the pose, one of her favourites, wraught with delicious symbolism. He is looking out at the world, perched on a cliff, his wings spread to symbolize freedom. Pride and courage is reflected in his head position, as he is not afraid of anything. His claws still cling to the rock below him, though, to display that, while he can fly, he is still a creature of the Earth. Such beautiful symobolism, who could refuse!

Congratulations, [Lady Di]! Keep up the good work!
