The early moster people of Ireland. No specific time is assigned to their coming. In the old stories they are treated more as a recurring plague that is repeatedly defeated and then reasserts itself after a period of peace and recovery. Both evil-intentioned humans and various kinds of monsters are included in the term, including pookas, drows, lindworms, and other supernatural creatures. It usually required magic as well as physical force to kill them.
