Bloody October
Nightshade and his entire family, Windfire and her entire family, all of the angered protestors in France and their former queen were caught up in the revolution. The woman obviously missed her husband who had been killed nine months prior, and she was ready to accept her fate.
Her trial found her guilty of treason, and she was to be beheaded by the guillotine before her people. Nightshade could barely contain his excitement. It was less than a year and his plan had been put underway. They had already killed their king, but his wife was next—just a few more minutes.
“What are we going to do when we’re rid of the royalty?” Windfire whispered to her husband.
“We have the other part of the plan to take care of,” Nightshade whispered in reply.
“Are you sure you wish to do that?” Windfire asked, replaying her husband’s plan again and again in her mind.
“Yes,” Nightshade said evenly. “There’s no turning back, now,” he said quietly as he watched their queen. She was being fastened into the headboard. All of the French nobles and commoners were watching—the witches and warlocks more eagerly than the rest—and they stared, not even flinching when their queen’s head was thrown into a basket. The blood splatter was just another detail that was painted in the plan of the most powerful warlock leader in France.
“Are there any other nobles against the revolution?” the executioner asked. Nobody answered. “Bring in the next one!” he declared. A young man stumbled across the distance between where he was standing and the guillotine. “Who is this?”
“He was caught conspiring! Off with his head!” Flameshade shouted.
“No conspirators will ruin the good that will come from the revolution!” Snowgust shouted, and the crowd howled at her declaration. The crowd cheered as the young man was beheaded before he could even be tried.
And every witch and warlock bearing the last names of Deverill and Gerard cheered and encouraged more bloodshed.
