The Great Lynx - Mishipeshu

It never ceases to amaze me what will provide my inspiration lately. This one came about after I was watching the show 'River Monsters' about monstrous fresh water fish. Many of these monster fish spawn legendary creatures so I was curious to see what sort of supernatural water critters were reputed to be from the Great Lakes basin. What I found was a copper loving, rough water creating lake spirit called Mishipeshu that was feared and revered by the Ojibwe/Algonquin people living on the shores of Lake Superior.
This would be my interpretation of this spirit, drawn originally on an acrylic primed canvas. I managed to scan it then printed it out and inked it so I could do a rough colour before attempting to paint the original. (Though I'm really liking how this turned out...)
