Yes, I know this will for some reason provoke like 99.99% of all riders since it's supposed to be unsafe. But I like it, and see it from the bright side: I'm at least wearing a helmet! ;)

There is no pulling the reins in this trick. I just lift them over his head, say ''up'' and expect him to raise up and take a little leap forward. And he does. He never does it out of cue, no matter how annoed or stressed he is, so the risk of him doing it is no more than that of a horse not knowing to rear on a cue. He is not stressed - he lifts the head since that's what my raised rein tells him too, even if it's not so pretty, and his eyes are way bigger when he's actually stressed. He's not stepping around or getting excited when he lands either. I will however give a warning about the trick - if you teach your horse to do it while it's stressed or provoked (like if you hold him back and kick him forward at the same time) you have a great risk of teaching him to respond with rearing everytime he feels confused or provoked. You do not want that. And you do not want him to rear high or to rear straight up, he needs to rear in a forward motion for the act to be safe. Or else he might do it too much once, fall over and kill you both on accident.
