2004-09-01 [pixish]: Entry number 4 has elements which are copied from the book 'How To Draw More Manga' by Katy Coope (we bought it just today) If anyone has a copy, page 19 is where you can find the head design, the body pose is taken from page 33, the little critter looks awfully similar to the one on page 51, and it's tail is close to page 54...however, the outfit is all her own :-)
2004-09-03 [Azuri]: i dont remeber it looking exactly like that
2004-09-04 [pixish]: which one doesnt look the same?
2004-09-04 [Azuri]: i mean come on of course people take things from how to draw books that what they are for i mean my friend stole one of the cute little creatures from one of them and i stole the lizard girl from the girls book(albiet she is a fox now)
2004-09-04 [Dil*]: i don't.
2004-09-04 [Azuri]: come on you know you take certain elements from diffrent things i dont think the picture is completely copied is it? from just one thing?
2004-09-04 [Dil*]: no, not in the last year....(i stopped using references)
2004-09-04 [Azuri]: yea but some people need those refrences it how they improve i know its how i improved
2004-09-04 [Dil*]: ya i used them at first....about a year ago..
2004-09-04 [Dil*]: now i kinda do stuff from memory...
2004-09-04 [Azuri]: i use them all the time i mean come on dont you ever get the urge to use the cool stuff you see in them in your stuff i mean thats kinda half the fun is getting to incorprate diffrent things into your art no matter where you saw it
2004-09-04 [Dil*]: umm....ya, but i do it from memory now and create new designs..
2004-09-04 [Dil*]: it's not exact..it's changes alot in my mind.
2004-09-05 [pixish]: It has still been copied. I agree that copying is good for practising your artwork and it helps you learn the basics. However entry number 4 has copied from the book and claimed it as her own art. She has used different pictures in the book to create the one image but in my mind I still call it copying. If anyone is interested in checking up on why we think the entry is copied, please check out 'How To Draw More Manga' by Katy Coope
2004-09-05 [Kaimee]: also, there may not be anything intrinsically wrong with copying, but there is definetely something wrong entering copied work in a contest that has specific rules again copied, traced or stolen art.
