A long time ago (about 30 years), in a galaxy far far away (well, a room in the BBC any way)...

A remarkable Ape Decendant, under the name of Douglas Nole Adams, put forward an idea to another earth decendant under the name of Simon Brett.
This idea was "the Hitch Hikers guide to the Galaxy" Radio Series.
And so the most remarkable Radio series/Book/Computer Game/TV Series/Film/Cult Icon was born.

And then came the inevitable HitchHikers Wiki.

Here on Elftown is, finnaly, a place for all you hoopy froods can go to relax.
Brought to you by [ArchangelGabriel]

2005-06-24 [Sebhar]: Hmn. I wish I had good ideas, once in awhile. I'll sleep on it, then come up with one.

2005-06-24 [bungalowbill]: I must say, the doors would be a minor annoyance. However, I should DREAD being in the company of Eddie. *shudders*

2005-06-24 [ArchangelGabriel]: 'Hey guys, this is eddie your ship board computer, Wanna play a game?!?'

2005-06-24 [Little Black RainCloud]: Kill-O-Zap

2005-06-24 [Scarlet Lioness]: I liked Eddie!

2005-06-25 [Sebhar]: ...Eddie reminds me of my wee sister. Only less psychotic.

2005-06-27 [~Crimson Angel~]: Who is this bob you speak of?

2005-06-27 [nokaredes]: Bob?

2005-06-27 [bungalowbill]: I think the "Bob" section should be expanded. I just don't know what with...

2005-06-27 [ArchangelGabriel]: There is no way to expand bob, sorry.

2005-06-30 [bungalowbill]: I figured as much. Hey, are the Lintillas only in the radio program?

2005-06-30 [Charybdis]: Probably... I've only read the books, and 'Lintillas' doesn't ring a bell. Of course, there are so many strange species that I could have overlooked them by accident, but...

2005-06-30 [Sebhar]: I've only read the books as well, and I don't remember them... not that that's saying much, as my memory is terrible.

2005-06-30 [ArchangelGabriel]: LOL, Lintila was a person. To be specific, a very beutiful and talented archeologist. She was cloned but the machine got out of sync and created a new one befor it finnished the last and therfor couldn't be switched off without murdering a linitla.I think it was several thousand. but only three turned up

2005-06-30 [Sebhar]: *falls over* How awful

2005-06-30 [ArchangelGabriel]: Then they sen tout anti clones who tricked them into signing a contract to sece to exist. It was lintila who found out the shoe event horizon on brontatur

2005-06-30 [Sebhar]: *laugh*

2005-06-30 [ArchangelGabriel]: Ahhh... You rember that eh?

2005-06-30 [Sebhar]: I remember talking with [dreamseeker's child] about it at one point

2005-06-30 [ArchangelGabriel]: The shoe event horizon is my favourite thing from hitchhikers

2005-06-30 [Sebhar]: teehee, three cheers for it, indeed.

2005-06-30 [Charybdis]: Haha! Okay, I'm sure that wasn't in the books! XD What is the shoe event horizon?

2005-06-30 [ArchangelGabriel]: I thought youd never ask. In the books it happens on frogstar world b. You are ina declining civalistation. You are looking down. To cheer yourself up you buy a new pair of shoes. Now everyone buys shoes. Now everyone is well shod. How do shoe companies keep in business? They sell bad shoes. The people keep buysing. The shoes get worse. The people buy. More and more shoe shops start. It becomes economicaly impossible to buy or sell anytihng but shoes. Result? Famine, anby survivors evolve into birds and never walk again.

2005-06-30 [Charybdis]: LOL! How very quintessentially Adams! ...Which book is that in? Clearly I need to brush up on my H2G2 trivia :p

2005-06-30 [ArchangelGabriel]: Its from the resturant at the end of the universe i think

2005-06-30 [Sebhar]: Yeah, it was definitely in one of the books.

2005-06-30 [Charybdis]: Haha, now I feel all unobservant. No, wait... shoes.. that rings a bell, but only very faintly. Gak! O_o

2005-06-30 [Sebhar]: oh dear, a faint bell! Perhaps you should get it fixed...

2005-06-30 [Charybdis]: O_O Perhaps I should. Isn't there a word for someone who repairs bells? Or at least makes them? I suppose there's 'bellmaker', but isn't there a more interesting one?

2005-06-30 [Sebhar]: i always thought so. Hmn.

2005-07-01 [Scarlet Lioness]: "noisemaker", maybe?

2005-07-01 [bungalowbill]: Well, I think in the books we were introduced to the whole concept through meeting these ugly birdlike creatures, and were rather surprised to hear them speak, or something. I haven't read them in a fair bit, but I'm working on the radio series.

2005-07-28 [Sigma the Red]: *falls out of hole in the sky* Stupid Eddies *rubs head*

2005-07-28 [Blaze the Nameless]: Don't you just hate those things?

2005-07-29 [Sigma the Red]: yeah

2005-07-29 [nokaredes]: Lookit what I found: Douglas Adams Quotes!

2005-07-29 [Blaze the Nameless]: Dude! That's awesome!

2005-07-29 [Sigma the Red]: AWESOME! what's in this tome of wisdom?

2005-07-29 [Cathos]: It's great apart from the fact that it brings on slight obsessive behaviour. *must fix all code on ET*

2005-07-30 [bungalowbill]: yes. that missing [/b] was killing me.

2005-07-30 [Cathos]: If I was ever a guard, I just wouldn't be able to help myself. That and correcting spellings in houses.

2005-07-30 [Blaze the Nameless]: lol

2005-07-31 [bungalowbill]: My friends have gotten really mad at me for correcting their spelling and stuff on our message board

2005-07-31 [Cathos]: I'm rabidly dyslexic. so if I can make the effort, I don't see why other people can't.

2005-08-01 [Sigma the Red]: *walks in with a Pan Galactic Gargle Blaster* you can't tell me what to do, you talking cactus! Stop changing colors!

2005-08-01 [Blaze the Nameless]: Oh dear!

2005-08-02 [bungalowbill]: *turns octarine*

2005-08-02 [Scarlet Lioness]: ohh! Pan Glactic Gargle Blaster hour already? Oh I'm afraid I almost missed it! Pour me one please?

2005-08-03 [Blaze the Nameless]: I'll pass.

2005-08-03 [bungalowbill]: yeah, no kidding. I don't have an extra brain to play with.

2005-08-04 [Sigma the Red]: LeETS DO THE CHICKEN DANCE! *does hokey pokey*

2005-08-07 [ArchangelGabriel]: Hold on, did i see octarine? Ah well. Personaly i'd perfer a some of that old jynx spirit. So...

2005-08-08 [bungalowbill]: Well, a sort of greenish purple at any rate.

2005-08-08 [ArchangelGabriel]: alright. just keep the elephants out of it ^^

2005-08-08 [Cathos]: *croons quietly from the corner* #That ooooold Janx spiiiiiriiiit

2005-08-08 [ArchangelGabriel]: I can't rember the game you play... The one where you have to tip it... Ford always plays to loose

2005-08-08 [bungalowbill]: Hmmm... neither can I. Some research is required.

2005-08-08 [albert]: Hey, I saw the Hitch Hiker's Exebition at the sience museum in London.. anyone else seen it?

2005-08-08 [ArchangelGabriel]: Is it good? Do you think it would be worth going?>

2005-08-08 [albert]: hmm, well it wasn't bad. there where mostly props from the film and such. It cost a bit of money, but i can't remember how much. I think you should go if you don't feel very poor.

2005-08-08 [ArchangelGabriel]: would it be worth giving up a day of my life to go into london?

2005-08-09 [Sigma the Red]: Two people sit at opposite sides of a table with a boottle of old janx spirit between them and then attempt to make the spirit pour into the otheres glass And only if you can mmet DA which you can't, unless your dead

2005-08-09 [bungalowbill]: Ummm... can we elaborate on that?

2005-08-09 [albert]: Depends on how far from london you live. One day of your live really isn't that much, except if you die in the attempt(in going to london, that is). which you probably won't.

2005-08-10 [Scarlet Lioness]: **sings softly to glass of Pan Glactic Gargle Blaster before taking a quick shot of it** ok. I'm going to go let my brain leak out of my ears now.

2005-08-10 [ArchangelGabriel]: have fun smashing your brains out with a slice of lemon wrapped round a gold brick.... Personaly i'll stick with a jynnan tonnyx or maybe a gee-N'N-T'N-ix or possibly even jinond-o-nicks

2005-08-10 [Cathos]: Any of you want to meet up some time to see the Hitch hikers exibition? I'm in London a lot at the mo, and at a loose end during most of the days.

2005-08-11 [ArchangelGabriel]: So seriously. Who here would want to meet up and visit the hitch hikers exhibition?

2005-08-11 [Scarlet Lioness]: I'm out...I live in America...Ohio to be exact...that's kinda a longer trip for me.

2005-08-11 [ArchangelGabriel]: Honestly. Thats no excuse ^_^

2005-08-11 [albert]: Has anyone read The meaning of liff? I want to, but I just can't find it anywhere :/

2005-08-11 [ArchangelGabriel]: The meaning of liff? Or maybe the deeper meaning of liff? Described by the times as 'brilliant', by the mail as 'brilliant' and by the waltham telegraph as 'small'

2005-08-11 [ArchangelGabriel]: I think its only avalibl in the uk though

2005-08-11 [albert]: Damn. I just got home from england. stupid norweigian bookstores that doesn't understand the meaning of good literature.

2005-08-11 [ArchangelGabriel]: the meaning of liff is a dictionary, it uses english place names as the words and then gives them weird meanings, eg: Ossett: A frilly toilrt-roll cover, Luffenham: th efelling you get when you know the pubs won't be open for 40 minutes yet

2005-08-12 [albert]: :D I read about it in The salmon of doubt.. it sounds hillarious. Didn't he co-write it with someone.. something Lloyd?

2005-08-12 [ArchangelGabriel]: Jhon Lloyd. I still have to finnish The salmon of dought.

2005-08-12 [albert]: it's a really good mix, I must say.. but it makes me even more sad about the fact that he died. what a loss!

2005-08-12 [ArchangelGabriel]: hitching the galaxy one last time... I really think you should try and read last chance to see. Its one of his greatest works and very often over looked.

2005-08-12 [albert]: Oh, yes, I've been wanting to read that one too, but can't find that one either. Maybe I can buy it online, or something.. It was the one he liked best himself, he said.

2005-08-12 [ArchangelGabriel]: Its certianly my favourite. I think beauty in da's writing was how he pocked fun at reality. Bypasses, towles and digital watches for example. And what better way to do it than whilst writiing about a rela life adventure.

2005-08-12 [albert]: Too true! I love the way he shows the reader what fun the world really is, or can be, if one wants to. I found both that one and the meaning of liff at the net, so I'll buy them as soon as I can lay my hands on some money.

2005-08-12 [ArchangelGabriel]: Hold on, i know where you can get last chance to see as pdf

2005-08-13 [bungalowbill]: There were definatley about 3 copies of lLast Chance at my crappy little library. It is excellent.

2005-08-13 [Sebhar]: -.- my crappy little library has romance novels, anime, and reference. Oh, and Stephen King, so I guess I can't yet kill them, but they have no Hitchhiker.

2005-08-13 [ArchangelGabriel]: You know mine didn't even. They just had a few of the tapes from the primary phase.

2005-08-13 [Sebhar]: at least that was something.

2005-08-13 [ArchangelGabriel]: yeah... but not alot

2005-08-13 [Sebhar]: we don't even have one copy of any book, or any tape, or any video. Just... blah. Nothing.

2005-08-13 [bungalowbill]: I'm suddenly very thankful for Bemis public library.

2005-08-16 [Sigma the Red]: Hey, I stuck a babel fish in my ear and apparently the monkies think that we're made of rubber

2005-08-16 [albert]: That doesn't really surpise me.

2005-08-16 [albert]: Hey, lobsang, the link doesn't work..

2005-08-16 [ArchangelGabriel]: Yes it does. http://www.portal.com.ro/modules.php?op=modload&name=eBooks&file=index&req=getit&lid=92 Its a PDF though so you need to have Adobe Acrobat reader. Its also possible your security settings are stopping you from opening it.

2005-08-17 [albert]: hmm. This computer is shitty anyway, so it might just have decided that it didn't like that link.

2005-08-17 [bungalowbill]: Hang on, that link is "Last Chance to See?"

2005-08-17 [ArchangelGabriel]: 'last chance to see', yeah

2005-08-17 [bungalowbill]: does it cost?

2005-08-17 [ArchangelGabriel]: Nope, its free. probably stolen though. its there if you feel like taking it.

2005-08-17 [ArchangelGabriel]: I have added Advice and Guidance

2005-08-17 [bungalowbill]: Missing those great pictures, but that's pretty cool.

2005-08-17 [bungalowbill]: Nice.

2005-08-17 [ArchangelGabriel]: Yeah, the pictures where good, 'the chicken we didn't get to eat and the reason why'

2005-08-18 [bungalowbill]: Hehe, yeah.

2005-08-18 [albert]: advice and guidance was annoying.

2005-08-18 [ArchangelGabriel]: Yeah, sorry ^_^ I've just been listening to the the quiley... quintaentily.... *looks it up* quintessential phase. Its very good. A better ending than the book as well.

2005-08-18 [bungalowbill]: What's the quintessential phase?

2005-08-18 [ArchangelGabriel]: Its the fith section of the raido series. Its even better than mostly harmless because A) it makes sence, and B) it has a happy ending and C) it doesn't take as long

2005-08-19 [bungalowbill]: I think I've heard it... Is that the one where the black ship is the ambasador's flagship, or whatever?

2005-08-21 [Sigma the Red]: hi

2005-08-22 [ArchangelGabriel]: Nope. They end up in the admirals flagship after escapeing from the resturant at the end of the universe. Thats right at the end of the primary phase. The quintessential phase is about the bird who controls the WSOGMM and ends up destroying the earth for good.

2005-08-22 [bungalowbill]: Oh, um, I don't think I'm there yet.

2005-08-23 [ArchangelGabriel]: How about a quiz?

2005-08-23 [bungalowbill]: Ok, sure.

2005-08-23 [Scarlet Lioness]: I like how when they're escaping the resteraunt, and Marvin is there...poor miserable Marvin. lol

2005-08-23 [ArchangelGabriel]: I just thought it would be really cool i we did a 42 question quiz

2005-08-23 [albert]: whoa. you do that!

2005-08-23 [bungalowbill]: is it open book?

2005-08-23 [ArchangelGabriel]: you waa?

2005-08-28 [Sigma the Red]: bleah

2005-08-28 [bungalowbill]: I figured it out! THe quintessential phase is the new one, right?

2005-08-29 [ArchangelGabriel]: Yes. The newest.

2005-09-02 [Na no da!]: <img:http://elftown.lysator.liu.se/img/drawing/21776_1125677000.jpg> Well done, you have won! This took a while, as cheating was taking palce during the voting, so the bosses at The World of terra chose the winners :)

2005-09-02 [ArchangelGabriel]: Wow, thank you very much ^_^ This wiki is now the winner of Two Awards as we have also been a wiki of the month.

2005-09-02 [bungalowbill]: Yay us! Yay Lobsang!

2005-09-02 [ArchangelGabriel]: ^_^ I'm still kinda surprised.

2005-09-03 [albert]: Congrats!

2005-09-07 [bungalowbill]: Well, I've finished the original series... and the other phases aren't available from h2g2... Does anyone have them?

2005-09-07 [ArchangelGabriel]: I do...

2005-09-07 [Sigma the Red]: blah

2005-09-08 [bungalowbill]: I should like them... any ideas on methods of transfer?

2005-09-08 [ArchangelGabriel]: Um... I could burn them to a disc.... You'd have to haev real player to play them though.

2005-09-08 [bungalowbill]: they're .ram files, then?

2005-09-08 [ArchangelGabriel]: No. .ram is a streaming file. Its just a saved them as some other real player only file..

2005-09-09 [bungalowbill]: i can deal with that, I think. I can always convert later. What email do you use? Can it handle big attachments? If you answered no to any of these questions, do you want a gmail invite?

2005-09-09 [ArchangelGabriel]: I happen to be a member of gmail already ^_^

2005-09-10 [bungalowbill]: oh, that is very excellent. So you could, perhaps, send them to me? I'll give you the addy.

2005-10-23 [spiderweb]: out of interest what does zem have to do with this wiki

2005-10-23 [ArchangelGabriel]: zem is very useful matteres. She has been correcting my abismal typing.

2005-12-18 [RiddleRose]: could i perhaps suggest a discussion page? or maybe a forum that was connected to this page where members could discuss the books, radio series, movie, tv series, whatever. (btw, abysmal is spelled with a 'y' not an 'i'... ^^)

2005-12-19 [ArchangelGabriel]: Hmmm.. we have a forum for admin ( we could do wit h afew more people *HIHNT*) but not for the members. I rather assumed we where using the main page for that ^_^

2005-12-19 [RiddleRose]: oh... ^^ i just got here so i wouldn't know. ^^

2005-12-24 [Sebhar]: I'm pretty sure we just discuss things here. Life is good that way...

2005-12-24 [RiddleRose]: did you just say that you needed more admin? what sort? i'll be admin... wait... i am dead under a mile-high pile of wrapping paper. happy christmas everyone!

2005-12-24 [Charybdis]: I hear you! >< And yes, a merry Christmas to all :)

2005-12-31 [Sigma the Red]: I finally found this place again. COOL!

2006-01-02 [RiddleRose]: it is pretty cool... me likes!

2006-01-03 [Sigma the Red]: me too

2006-01-29 [Sigma the Red]: *chews on one of those huge rubber triangles while listening to Disaster Area at full blast*

2006-01-29 [RiddleRose]: rubber triangles? eh?

2006-01-29 [Cathos]: Vulcanised nummies!

2006-01-29 [RiddleRose]: me oh my!

2006-01-30 [Scarlet Lioness]: **sucks on the end of my towel complete with nutrient strnads**

2006-01-30 [ArchangelGabriel]: the Triganic Pu has its own very special problems. Its exchange rate of eight Ningis to one Pu is simple enough, but since a Ningi is a triangular rubber coin six thousand eight hundred miles along each side, no one has ever collected enough to own one Pu. Ningis are not negotiable currency, because the Galactibanks refuse to deal in fiddling small change.

2006-02-01 [RiddleRose]: *hides slowly under towel from big words*

2006-02-01 [Scarlet Lioness]: **joins RiddleRose under towel away from big workds floating over-head**

2006-02-01 [bungalowbill]: Wait, what big words?

2006-02-01 [Scarlet Lioness]: well assuming that a Ningi is so gargantuam, wouldn't on that same planet, their words, another originally small thing be just as big? the letter "F" could just come up behind you and give you a good wallup to the back of the head!

2006-02-01 [RiddleRose]: owwie... I'd call it a Belgium!

2006-02-04 [Sigma the Red]: SPEAK LOUDER! I CAN'T HEAR YOU OVER MY MUSIC!

2006-08-08 [Xeroh Kanoe]: *.* I love this place!

2006-08-08 [Sebhar]: I love... mice.

2006-08-08 [bungalowbill]: Brown noser.

2006-08-08 [Sebhar]: *sheepish* Guilty as charged.

2006-08-08 [Xeroh Kanoe]: Who are you talking about?

2006-08-09 [Sebhar]: Oh... I assumed me...

2006-08-09 [bungalowbill]: yeah. blatantly sucking up to the mice like that...

2006-08-09 [Sebhar]: Oh, that wasn't sucking up! They're just so cute and lovable... *innocent face*

2006-08-09 [ArchangelGabriel]: meh, it's the dolphins you really want to please. I didn't see the mice rebuilding the earth for the sake of the ape descendants.

2006-08-09 [Sebhar]: Darn! I hate misplaced brown nosing!

2006-08-09 [Xeroh Kanoe]: I dont see the dolphins rebuiding earth at all.

2006-08-10 [Sebhar]: Yeah, I wish they'd get on that.

2006-08-11 [Xeroh Kanoe]: Same here...

2006-08-11 [Sebhar]: *starts singing* So long and thanks for all the fish...

2006-08-11 [ArchangelGabriel]: [.:Spoiler Alert:.]
Right at the beginning of so long and thanks for all the fish. Turns out that the dolphins, with the assistance of the earth being in a plural sector, rebuilt the planet and left, leaving the message on fish bowls 'so long and thanks for all the fish'. Of course then the vogons blew it up again with the help of the mark two guide. Luckily the babel fish has a last trick up its sleeve. It can save itself and those in it's vicinity from certain death. Sending them into a different plane of existence. Including a world where fen-church and Arthur live happily lying in front the bulldozer outside his house, and where the entire crew reunite at the restaurant at the end of the universe. You may be interested to know that this ending only exists on the radio series which was extended after Douglas Adams ended mostly harmless on a bad note. he'd had a bad year and all his work ended up a little morbid. I recommend the radio series to any one who found mostly harmless disappointing, and a psychiatrist to any one who didn't.

2006-08-11 [bungalowbill]: I have all the original radio shows, but I can't find the new ones... Weren't you going to send me those at some juncture?

2006-08-12 [Charybdis]: I'm glad the radio series got a better ending that the books... MH definitely did close with an anticlimax :/

2006-08-12 [Sebhar]: It was! I was kind of like, "Uh, am I missing some pages?"

2006-08-12 [Charybdis]: Exactly! I wondered the same. It was definitely a downer to read through five books only to reach that end :(

2006-08-13 [Sebhar]: I outlined an idea for a fanfic ending, once... but didn't actually write it.

2006-08-13 [ArchangelGabriel]: It's defiantly worth listening to the radio series. They even manage to explain the discrepancies between the book and original radio series.

2006-08-13 [Sebhar]: And how would one go about acquiring said radio series? Shop online?

2006-08-13 [bungalowbill]: *listens intently*

2006-08-15 [ArchangelGabriel]: Yeah, You want to order the quaternary and qunitessential phases of of amazon or something. You might want the Terrtiary as well.
