Haiku-A-Day
Can Templar write a haiku a day?
My aim is to train myself to look at something with a new perspective and thoughtfulness every day. If I continually produce a new poem, it'll force me to consider things in new ways. Therefore it's encouraged that I use a limited number of subjects. Originally I had in mind to limit it to simply the weather in a day, but I think a little freedom in subject is helpful.
As this is not a challenge, I don't think it's all that imperative that this be done daily, but that is the goal. It's not like I fail if I don't have time some day, but the more frequently I write something with a poetic edge to it, the closer to enlightenment and free thinking I am.
For those who are unaware, haiku are a common form of poetry originating in Japan. They are brief, three-line poems that are typically reflective and often center around a common object. The first and third line have five 'on', which are similar to syllables (and the two will be considered synonymous for my purposes), and the second line has seven syllables, making a 5-7-5 pattern.

Towering above,
Floating majestically,
Great billowing clouds.
- 5/17/08
Roof of many leaves
Sheltering from the tempest
Bouncing in the rain.
- 4/17/08
Clear, cool, crisp spring air.
Time is harder to see through.
Feel life each moment.
- 4/16/08
Rain drips off the leaves,
The ground beneath a haven,
Shelter from the world.
- 4/15/08
Green and blue and red
leaves silhouetted against
the glow of twilight.
- 4/14/08
Five and eleven,
seventeen, twenty-three, and
twenty-nine: sexy.
- 4/13/08
Leafy walls protect
Branches beneath and above
It's my tree castle
- 4/12/08
Streaming the heavens
Clouds glow in majestic light
Blazing sky ignites.
- 4/11/08
Deep blue sea of air
Soft clouds and dark thunderheads
The heavens tumult.
- 4/10/08
Poised carefully above
Resting on the thin branch, the
sparrow sweetly sings.
- 4/9/08
Blue sky and fresh air
Spring is a time of rebirth
The new is nurtured.
- 4/8/08
A break in the clouds
White battles blue above me
Sunset glows blue-red.
- 4/7/08
The still, blue twilight
Cool wind washes over me
Far off, leaves rustle.
- 4/6/08
Birdsong in the mist
The landscape cloaked in mystery
Shows a whole new world.
- 4/5/08
Whether a drop falls
into a pond or a sea
it leaves a ripple.
- 4/4/08
Light out of nowhere
Thunder screams across the sky
Storm descends on us.
- 4/3/08
Bleached skies overhead
Draw out the color below,
Make Spring more lovely.

Pontomaris Vesco
My own made-up animal
He is teh roxxors.
- 4/1/08
Clouds without sure form
Colors cast from the sun beyond
They are beautiful.
- 3/31/08
A fog in the sky
Spring mist whitens everything
Green blooms from the ground.
- 3/30/08
Grey clouds cover blue
A warm wind blows through the leaves
Not a drop of rain.
