Caleb LeRoux

RPer: [Duke Devlin]

Character name: Caleb LeRoux

Character setting: Bethlem (Owned by [windowframe] & [iippo])

Age: 20

Race: Human - Caucasian

Appearance: Caleb is fairly tall, standing at 5ft 11". His muscular structure is weak - he never spent any time at a gym - and lacks any strong definition. As a young teen he had a long sweeping fringe with the cropped sides and back, dyed a stylish deep blue with purple highlights. However now that he has grown up some more he has returned it to a natural colour - dark brown. The slanted eyes that reside on his face are brown in colour. It has been said that Caleb looks somewhat ill. Caleb usually wears functional clothing, with very little unnecessary embellishment. He often can be seen wearing a pair of black safety boots, black jeans and a plain, tight-fitted top. His skin is tanned, giving him almost the appearance of coming from a foreign, hot, country somewhere.

History: This history most frequently detailed to people by Caleb's parents and family is not to be trusted. It’s mostly lies;
As a child Caleb was normal - completely and utterly normal. Irritatingly so, as some later said, after his accident. A blessing, and a curse the accident was. At the age of eight, Caleb was hit by a speeding motorbike. This wasn't the first time he had been hit by traffic, but it was the only time he had ever been sent flying straight into a coma. Caleb lost all memory of the event, and the months that led up to it. All he cared about was going home. After being released, he returned home to his ecstatic mother and father. It was merely a day or two after his return that he began exhibiting strange behaviour. He would change tone and expression mid-sentence, forget what they had planned to do, not recognise those he had met only minutes before. By the time he had reached nine, Caleb's parents had had enough of the child that had grown to inhabit their son's body - Claus. They took the boy to a doctor, in the hopes of suppressing the second personality with medication. He was then diagnosed with dissociative identity disorder.
On the doctor's recommendation, they were to attempt to get to know Claus - as Caleb had obviously created him within his mind for a reason. So for years Caleb went on unaware of the other being that resided within him, and had little treatment. As a teenager, problems began to arise. While Caleb was interested in monogamous, loving relationships with females, Claus was more interested with open, polygamous relationships with either males or females. This of course caused issues at school, and within Caleb's friendship group. However, this was cleared up upon the explanation of his condition.
Despite the problems presented by his disorder, Caleb grew up to be flirtatious, vain and blatantly obnoxious - though he was still far more friendly than Claus. At the age of seventeen he left school, and began to attend dance classes and general fitness projects. Caleb is still not doing much with his life, however he has grown to be skillful in the ways of agility, as well as explosive-making (though this was actually Claus). It was this that wound Caleb up in the asylum - the constant explosions, the threatening behaviour.
The actual history will likely be revealed by Claus at some point, since he has vague recollections.

Personality: Caleb is an unabashedly scandalous flirt. While easy-going, he is also a hard-worker. Contradictions seem to make up the entire of his genetic structure. His exterior - somewhat outrageous sometimes - can lead people to believe that he is a ‘clown’. However this is certainly not the case; he merely uses this and his usually outlandish behaviour as an escape from his serious side. The Caleb you meet might not be the same as the last person met. His separate personality 'Claus' is the smoking, drinking, drug-taking type. It is him who forms the latter part of Caleb's 'personality'. He is not, however, without his dangers on others around him. Claus is not as friendly as Caleb - he is perfectly happy to 'remove' you, if he so chooses. The two are completely unaware of eachother, so little warning is given to someone meeting them, and as such the pair often feel as though they are experiencing horrific blackouts. This was ‘treated’ with drugs by Claus - which merely worsened things. Much of what Caleb will say is lies - he has been brought up on them in order to protect him. Claus is more likely to speak truth, though it is questionable whether or not he can actually be trusted. Symptoms associated with DID: multiple mannerisms and attitudes, headaches and other bodily pain, amnesia and depression, loss of subjective time.

Occupation: N/A

Abilities: The majority of Caleb's interests/abilities are typical of a teenager - but Claus is slightly different. Though lecherous, he puts that aside in order to focus on hurting people who annoy him. He constantly goes on tirades about how irritated he has become, and will frequently threaten people. Other than this, the pair enjoy reading often, going out with the few friends they had, and generally trying to relive their last years of teenage-hood.

Character Challenge

Interview:
[Chel.] answers the door to her office, "Oh hello Caleb, a little late I see. Nevertheless, come in, come in..." She opens the door and leads you to a comfy seat across from her desk. The walls are dark red in color with a wooden trim. Along the right wall is a collection of books lined up perfectly along a wide bookcase. Chel sits herself down on in a leather chair and props her feet up onto the cherry wood desk. "So- I've read an awful lot about you, but there are some things that I can't figure out...is it true you don't know about the- others even though you attended treatment?"

Following [Chel.] into the room, Caleb stays quiet until he sits in the comfy chair, his eyes looking over the other with interest. "I'm really sorry I'm late, Chel, I was... otherwise engaged," He smiles apologetically, then tilts his head in confusion at her question. "I'm sorry, others? My treatment in Bethlem is for my blackouts..." He laughs lightly, putting the bizarre question down to the interviewer's own personality - maybe she was trying to catch him out. Briefly, he put his hand to his head in pain - a headache brewing. "Do you mind if I smoke?" He asks, his friendly smile still in place as he shifts position in the chair.

"Oh, not at all. Make yourself comfortable." Chel encouraged, walking over to a window and cracking it open. "There is water and coffee over at that table if you want as well." Given that she wasn't a psychiatrist or a doctor of any kind, Chel figured that it might be best to keep away from the technical questions. "So tell me about yourself a bit. I would like to update your profile."

"I'm alright, thank you... Well I don't really know what to say," he gave a light self-conscious laugh and smiled up at her as he flicked his lighter on, holding it just below his cigarette. As he inhaled deeply, he briefly closed his eyes. "Well, I could start from the beginning? I mean, you asked about my treatment - so I could tell you how that started," He nodded to himself mostly, leaning back and exhaling the smoke slowly. Caleb's eyes flicked up to the woman, watching her as she moved about the room, appreciating the other's form, and the manner in which she held herself. "Basically, I was hit by a bike - motorbike - when I was little, and the blackouts started after that... I mean, my parents got a little funny with me; treating me like there was something more serious wrong. I never really understood that," He frowned a little, gazing down towards the desk, evidently deep in thought, "But hopefully being at Bethlem will help that..." Pausing, he realised he'd been talking a while, and smiled up at her. "Sorry, I really like to talk," His laughter filled the room again - he was naturally a people-person.

"Oh no, feel free to ramble. To be completely honest, I've been doing these interviews all day and well-." Chel paused, itching the back of her head, "-let's just say it's been a long day." After another swig of her coffee, she said, "If you don't mind, we can keep this one as natural as possible. I'll just jot things down now and then."

"Yeah that's fine," Caleb grinned up at her, nodding sympathetically, "Oh I can imagine it gets kinda boring hearing all these life stories though, huh?" He smirked, merely implying that his was not the most interesting - in his own, slightly misinformed, opinion. After a minute of silence in which he took a few drags of his cigarette before stubbing it out and throwing it into the bin from his seat, he continued. "When I was growing up - after the accident I mean - I guess I always felt like people were treating me extra special. It was as though they were afraid of me having mood swings, I suppose," he frowned, chewing his lip thoughtfully, "Like I was bipolar or something. But I dunno, I don't really know the medical diagnosis for that!" Again Caleb laughed. He felt at ease - Chel was really making his feel comfortable in what would normally be quite an uncomfortable situation. For a split second, Caleb's eyes slipped shut, and he inhaled sharply, before shaking his head, as though in apology. "I thought I almost blacked out there..." He said slowly, gazing at the floor with a small frown on his features.

Worried, Chel leaned forward in her seat. "Uhm- perhaps you would like some water after all?" She really didn't want anyone passing out in her office. "It's not on this form of yours, so if you do black out, we have a on site nurse on the level below this one. If you need." She walked over to the coffee machine to get him a glass of water anyway. "And you don't have any prescription for your blackouts? My aunt would get them too, but hers were because she didn't get enough sugar in her system."

Caleb smiled and shook his head a little, "I'm fine.. Really.. I think I have enough sugar," He smiled a little more, but still looked a little dazed, and confused. "My doctors were going through therapy with me, I think it was to demonstrate why I have them, but we hadn't got that far yet.." He paused, putting his hand to his head as a headache dully formed down one side of his skull. A moment later, he slowly exhaled and smiled up at her, "Sorry... I get a lot of headaches, and I think they are around when I blackout. At least I always have them when I 'wake up' again!" He shook his head, his eyebrows raised.

"Well by no means am I a doctor or a psychologist." Chel said, walking back towards her desk. She handed him a glass of water, not giving him a choice whether or not to take it. "I really don't want to have you sign a waver or anything for this interview." she joked a bit.

A small laugh escaped Caleb's mouth, a smile settling on his face. "Oh I'm sure that's not necessary," He smirked, giving her a thankful nod for the water before he took a gulp. Within an instant of him placing the glass on the desk, his expression changed, a deep frown replacing the smile. "Oh great. I black out and end up in a psychiatrists office. Again." He huffed audibly, and then looked up at Chel. "Don't Sandra and Will realise yet that psychiatry isn't going to help? They've been trying for over a decade!" It was evident that he was confused and slightly irritated by his surroundings - and at being spontaneously awoken in the office of somebody he'd never met. Though, he did muse to himself, they could have picked a much less attractive somebody. He forced a smile. "Sorry, I had a blackout. We've met, I assume?"

"I just said that I wasn't a phycologist." Chel said, tensing her eyebrows. What the hell just happened? "And- yes we've met...about ten minuets ago. Wait, ...you didn't black out just now."

Caleb frowned at her, "Yes I did. I think I'd know when I blacked out." He sniffed huffily, and shook his head. "And you aren't a psychologist? So... Uhh... What are you?" He asked, somewhat demandingly. "Sorry, I just get a little snippy when I don't know where the fuck I am." He cleared his throat, and sighed, "Sorry... I'll try not to swear." He forced a smile, quickly taking note of his surroundings - a well-decorated room with a formidable collection of books taking up one wall. He paused his gaze upon them, taking in a few titles absently.

"Uhh- you are in my office." Chel tilted her head, wondering if this was the 'other personality' she had read about in his files. It really was the only explanation. Still- for it to switch so suddenly without warning...it was a bit unnerving. "Sorry, you must have blacked out a bit. "I summoned you so that I may interview you. Just a little more insight on who you are so that I may update your files. It really shouldn't take long. My name is Chel."

Caleb smiled briefly at her, "Thanks for clearing that up... I do get a little jumpy afterwards. I'm Claus." He extended his hand to the woman, leaning over the desk towards her to do so. "I'm sure we've already done introductions, so I do apologise for this." The words were spoken curtly, as though he didn't mean them at all - but that was just him, he was polite out of necessity, particularly in such a situation as this. "So what do you need to know?" He asked, sitting back down a few moments later, crossing his arms - a clear sign of discomfort.

"Alright then- let's see here." Chel eased back into her seat, scanning over his profile. He had obviously referred to himself as 'Claus' instead of the written 'Caleb' in his file. Perhaps it would be best to stick with a general question. "Alright, could you briefly describe a typical day in your life?"

Caleb frowned, looking thoughtful as he bit his lip. "Well, normally I just tend to chill with friends - I do stuff at the recreation centre in town. Dance and stuff mostly, since I left school. I mean, I've been in some trouble like, but not on a daily basis," He spoke a little coolly, though there was no reason for his behaviour. "Most days I spend just out and about in town. Got a couple mates - but they're a bit goody-two-shoes, you know?" He laughed a little, and sighed. "But now, at Bethlem, I just sort of spend time with the other patients. And talk to my doctors too... They keep trying to suggest that there is something really wrong with me." Caleb sneered, and suddenly coughed - covering his mouth just in time, before sipping his water again. "They keep saying 'Claus, you have D.I.D." I mean, what the hell is that anyway?" He rolled his eyes, it was evident he didn't really listen in his therapy sessions - when he was there.

"Dissociative Identity Disorder. Multiple personalities basically. But- I really shouldn't be the one to explain it. Again- not a doctor." Chel said, gesturing to herself. She made a few minor notes on a notepad before finishing her coffee. "Alright- what's next here..." she skimmed her sheet. "Do you have a place of employment?"

Caleb looked thoughtful again, for a few moments after she explained the disorder, his frown remaining on his face. As she asked her next question, his head snapped up to look at her, a small smile on his features, "Oh god no. No where would hire me!" He laughed loudly, as though amused by this - even though he could clearly do with a job. He was a delinquent, he needed something to keep him out of trouble. "I've been in too much trouble with the police for anyone to want me. I mean, I did try to get a job once. I applied at a school, and a couple of shops, but they said my history was too 'dark' for them." He smirked, "Blacklisted I guess." He sipped his water again, glancing over the table to try to see her notes on the pad.

"Surely there are small jobs out there for people who are 'blacklisted'. Even so- how do you make rent? Unless you live with your parents. Spouse perhaps even?"

Caleb smiled, "Oh I imagine so, I just haven't found one I suppose... I've not been trying too hard, to be honest." He shrugged, then smiled, visibly relaxing - he liked Chel, she seemed nice enough, without being on the side of 'too nice', where it seemed fake. "I'm not married. I dunno, I think it might be nice eventually... I think I'd need anger management first though! And before I had kids..." He laughed, grinning broadly. It was evident he thought it funny, though it wasn't all that amusing if too much musing was put into it.

2010-03-29 [NOOOPE]: Considering we're being pretty strict about everyone's sheet being uniform, could you please take out the "other" section and incorporate that info into the sections originally in the sheet please?

2010-04-05 [Duke Devlin]: Yep, no problem. :)

2010-08-23 [Chel.]: Hello?

2010-08-23 [Duke Devlin]: Sorry! :) I'm on it! :)

2011-06-23 [Duke Devlin]: FML Bad rp'ing on my part here. :| Feedback? If you have time? :P

2011-06-24 [Chel.]: Dude... this was a year ago and you want feedback now? <_<

2011-06-25 [Duke Devlin]: Woah sorry. Jeez, I just saw Silvie was doing feedback and forgot who did mine. So sorry; no, I don't need feedback.

2011-06-25 [Chel.]: Hehe, no no... it's fine. I was just completely surprised at this.
Generally, I really like this character. Only a few things were a bit strange. Like how Caleb doesn't know about his second personality when everyone else knows... you'd think he would be informed, especially when he went to see a shrink. It just seems a bit unrealistic that he's completely clueless. Some areas in the writing were hard to navigate, but in general this character got a 7/10 for me. :)

2011-06-28 [Duke Devlin]: Awhh I'm sorry for being snippy, I was in a bad mood that day ;.; <3
Ahh thank you :) You're right, it is a bit odd... He's now a character in a novel I'm writing, and I'm rethinking the not knowing about him part, because like you said, that's really unrealistic. :) Well thank you for that ^^ I know I need to work on making my writing more concise, and less... flowery? I'm not sure what the word is, but I think I know what you mean. :) Thank you :D

2011-06-28 [Chel.]: You're very welcome!
