Rules of the Challenge

* Patrons' Challenge * Entrants * Patrons' Challenge Art Submissions *

1. No Stolen Art Or Writing:
Images must be created by Elftowners and posted here by the original artist. Which means, no matter how much you might like a particular image on somebody's house, you are not allowed to add it here. This includes random images from the net too. The Role-play character biography submitted must also be of your own creation. No fan-characters will be accepted for this challenge, and if your character is deemed to be too similar to a published or copy-righted character, you will be asked to submit another biography.

2. Quality Issues:
Please put forth your best effort and the best quality: drawings on lined paper will not be accepted, nor will low quality photographs or scans of your work. Your submission should be shaded or coloured; sketches will not be accepted. For the character biography, a reasonable standard of quality is expected. Character biographies with exceptionally bad spelling or grammar will be removed, and you will be asked to re-submit. You may submit an improved version of your previous entry.

3. The Drawing Must Be New For This Challenge:
Please don't submit pre-made art for this contest, it is an insult to the entrant whose character you will be drawing. This rule does not apply to the role-play character.

4. One Submission Per Entrant
You may only submit one role-play character for the challenge, and your art entry may only be of the character you are designated. If you feel inspired and want to be nice; and draw the character of an entrant other than the one designated to you, that's great, but don't submit it here.

5. All Entries Must Be Uploaded To Elftown
To upload your image full-size you can use the feature 'Upload a folder of images' that is shown on your house.
This feature allows you to upload one, multiple images or zip-files in their original size to a wikipage.
<URL:upload_zip.html>
Once you click this link you can follow the instructions. See also uploading images.

6. Subject Matter & Medium
Since the winners will be featured on Mainstreet, images that depict graphic violence, pornography or other disturbing actions will not be accepted. Only images that fit the theme will be allowed.

All mediums, except photography (and/or manipulations) and animated GIF's, will be accepted.

7. Word Limit
Maximum word limit for the character bios will be 3,500 words.

8. Eligibility to win
You will not be able to win the either the Writer's award or the artists award without participating in both aspects of the contest - this means that if you don't submit the picture of the character you were assigned to draw before the deadline, you may not win the writing award.

The winner receives the coloured Octopus, participants receive the green Octopus badge:

2007-02-10 [Anvikit]: What is the word limit? it just says Word limit.. is there to be a minimum and maximum word limit?

2007-02-10 [windowframe]: Whoops, thanks for pointing that out. :P

2007-02-10 [Anvikit]: Hehe, no problem :)

2007-02-10 [Anvikit]: Also as far as characters are concerned is it just, like fantasy aspect characters: elves, dwarfs, halflings, orcs etc. set in a more middle earth kind of setting or is it any species any race any place/time deal?

Such as ..are sci-fi elements allowed as well such as cy-borgs aliens etc. Or Anthro characters, or your own personal race concoction/ breed... or super heros of a comic persuasion.. or anything else ones mind can possibly conceive

2007-02-10 [Mortified Penguin]: I may need some of those wiki privs...

2007-02-10 [windowframe]: Anything of your own creation.

2007-02-11 [Ylaraniala Majere]: Can we submit a character that is our own creation but uses someone else's world, like D&D or Forgotten Realms?

2007-02-11 [iippo]: [Mortified Penguin], you need to discuss the wiki privs with the guards.
And no fan-characters allowed this time around, so while there are Forgotten Realms/DnD races that are usual enough to be ok, we'd prefer as original as possible. Avoid mentioning copyrighted things.

2007-02-12 [Mortified Penguin]: Yeeaah... the guards... who aren't too fond of me...

2007-02-14 [Tails Of the Revolution]: As far as the drawing part is concerned... Is it acceptable if the entrant draws the picture, but has someone else colour it?

2007-02-14 [iippo]: Hrm, I'd say no, that's basically collaboration and this isn't a team contest... Your entries must be made by you. Advice from friends is one thing (like someone checking your spelling or helping with perspective) but you must do all the actual work towards your entries.

2007-03-15 [EmeraldGrizzly]: I suck at backgrounds. So, would a drawing of the character herself-fully colored-with a simple color background {such as blue} be alright?
