1.[FamousPanda]- "St. Patrick's Day"

St. Patrick's Day is a day of green,
drinking games and acting mean.
Chasing Leprechauns for their gold.
Pick one up and keep a good hold.
The luck of the Irish is what it's about.
To drink beer and scream and shout.
It's a time for parties and a time for fun,
not just for Irish, for everyone.

2. [The Apocalypse] - “St. Patrick’s Day at the Anvil Saloon”

“Martha Mae, I need another draft!”
“Ok, honey,” she said, and she laughed

The bartenders weren’t going to fail
Pouring green beers,
Serving young men their ale
It was all fine and great at the Anvil that night
The patrons were laughing, no sign of a fight

The atmosphere-- pleasant
As the liquor poured free
And the food—top shelf!
(Even if a bit green)
If I do say so myself

The waiters are happy
And the cooks will be soon
On St. Patricks Day
At the Anvil Saloon

3. [LynnAnneBrown] - "A Limerick"

There once was a Lady named Fay
Who went drinkin' one Saint Patty’s day
And when last she was seen
She was lookin' quite green
And the Fairie were leading the way

2009-02-05 [nehirwen]: I like your poem [The Apocalypse]! :D

2009-02-05 [FamousPanda]: Me too.

2009-02-15 [nehirwen]: I don't know very much about St. Patricks, but how does your lovely limerick fit the theme [LynnAnneBrown]? Cause I don't see it. :S

2009-02-15 [LynnAnneBrown]: Well as the child of Good Irish Stock, my mothers maiden name was Murphy, I was raised with the certain knowledge that the Limerick form of poetry was born in County Limerick Ireland. Now the historians can't seem to agree on this, but none the less it is a very popular form of verse in both in Ireland and among her decedents around the world. Now I don't often write limericks, this is probably the first I've penned since childhood, but sometime last week it popped into my head and it was the first thing I thought of for the St. Patrick's Day Festival.
Now I understand if the whole idea is just a little too obscure to make a good entry into the competition, considering that the explanation took more words to write than the poem.

2009-02-15 [nehirwen]: I certainly see the link with Ireland, being a limerick, but I still don't see the link with St. Patricks. :S

2009-02-15 [LynnAnneBrown]: Well once I thought about it a minute, I knew It wouldn't do. So I set about to pen a second limerick, one more suited to the theme and put it in it's place.

2009-02-16 [nehirwen]: That's better, and I totally love it. ^_^

2009-02-16 [LynnAnneBrown]: Thank you. I had actually forgotten how much fun it was to write Limericks.

2009-03-18 [nehirwen]: <img:17985_1127690355.gif> SPD Poll 2009!
