About the artist and why this picture was chosen for the daily picture:

This example of a simple-looking picture that turned out to be quite an impressive piece of work is also proficient in deception. While it looks like a simple gargoyle sketched out onto a paper, a keener eye would notice the shadows and shading, and the painstaking task of doing so with a pen (which, considering this was done at a bus station, was probably the only medium available). [Ocean Soul] uses excellent technique in her pen strokes, especially in the wings. The wings are my personal favourite part. They really do just catch your attention, very realisticly rendered and beautifully done.
