the reflection

looking into the broken mirror
the face of who I want to be
a man of honesty
a soldier
protecting the ones he loves
having a family
a wife
children
to understand him
the reflection ripples
fading from view
now seeing the frightened face
of a young man in war
bright eyed, hunkered down
praying to god for help
this is who I see myself as
this..is my reflection

I'd like a set of pumpkin shoes

I’d like to wear some pumpkin shoes
Cause pumpkins are quite neat
I could make a set of pumpkin clogs
Then wear them on my feet

I could carve a face for Halloween
For ventilation too
Or cook them for a little while
And make some pumpkin stew

I’m not sure I would eat it though
For that would be quite gross
Unless I had some pepper
Or a crunchy piece of toast

I’m sure they would be pretty
There is little money spent
It would be hard to make a choice
From Butternut or Kent

In winter time they could be nice
Out by the open fire
Until they start to get too warm
And cause me to perspire

I may have trouble walking
But that’s a small price to pay
For having such a privilege
To wear pumpkins every day

They could even hurt my back
Of maybe I might fall
My pumpkin shoes are awesome
And they’re healthy best of all

So if you are out shopping
Don’t boil, bake or stew
Just try out something different
And make a pumpkin shoe.

Dust Dancer

When the sun shines through my window
I see dust specks in the air
Flying hither, thither, there

As they swivel ‘round each other
I sit still and watch the show
Dirt and light in endless flow

Then I rise and join the dancing
And we gambol with the gust
Now retreating, now advancing
Me and thousand grains of dust

The River Crossing

Do you remember the stream?
That passed by where we once lived, when we were young.
Where, we would play. Where around the old songs were sung.

We would be together, that we both agreed.
We always wondered where this stream would lead.

Do you remember the River?
That opened out in to the land, near where we once lived.
The strange shells that it held, to each other we would give.

Using the tools of the water, we held in our hands.
We carved out our life plans upon the gathering sands.

Now you are on one side and I’m on the other.
I knew in time that you…

The River grew stronger, the farther we would go, and there we saw the
River’s crossing. I wished for you to stay, but you were gone before
I could say I love…

Now you are on one side and I’m on the other.
I knew in time that you would find another.

Now you are on one side and I’m on the other.
I knew in time that you would find another.
To fate so cold, the river took your lover.
And in the end it took you too.

Now you are on one side and I’m on the other.
I knew in time that you would find another.
To fate so cold, the river took your lover.
And in the end it took you too.

We carved out those plans for the river to wash them away…
