Silent Affection

Being there in the shadows
hugging the sideline,
out of reach,
out of touch,
out of the picture
is not the same function
as cheering me on from the stands.

You kept your distance
while I grew apart
and then suddenly
you can't believe
I've gone my way,
You stand there and wonder
why it is you don't understand.

But I was there for the taking,
you chose not the girl on the stage.
I don't make you proud
so you'll punish me the rest of our days
with your silent cold affection,
silent cold affection.

I said I didn't need you
Good riddance, so long
see you, dad
goodbye for good
I'm out the door...
But there's something missing
I think it's been you all along.

But I was there for the taking,
you chose not the girl on the stage.
I don't make you proud
so you'll punish me the rest of our days
with your silent cold affection,
silent cold affection.

There's something missing,
I think it's been you all along.

Quite a Problem

"Don't expect anyone to understand
Or me
It's the blind leading the blind here
We can only see the light
illuminating our own paths.
And if we can't see the path
or the light
heh, or both--
well--"
He stopped, long coat
swishing about his knees,
hat tipped over eyes,
leaning into the shelter
of the building
away from the frothy wind-whipped rain.
Popped a candy bar in his mouth;
big bite;
difficult words to follow.
"Then I'd say you've got quite a problem."

Morning Goddess

In the silent hush of morning light,
Through the quiet hours before the sun takes flight,
I find my solace in those early hues.
Of gold, orange and those whispering blues,
To have a time all my own,
When I can be empty and still as stone.
She hums to me of golden and simple things,
And I love her for it and all she brings.

Centaur

You became a contradiction

The moment you were born

Progeny from the rape of a cloud

Yet a creature of formidable presence

Birthed: Part man, part horse

   Beautiful and untamed

You became an allegory

When you could not hold your wine

Despite your strength, your virility

An unfortunate combination

Typical: Man against the wild

   Cousin against cousin

Nevertheless, you held us captivated

Then and still now, what you represent

What we sometimes desire to be
