We suck at Life, but We’re Wicked Cool
.:Chapter 10:. Eva
The Whole Truth and Nothing But the Truth
Time has passed, and I think Aaron and I have both proved very hard adversaries in the competition for Patrick. Unfortunately, he had an early pick up in the morning so we had to call the night a little earlier than usual for our group. Aaron, Chrissy and I have decided to have a girly sleepover night. One was well needed after having my flirt mode on “Extreme” all evening.
I stretched out in front of the couch as the three of us lounged around watching a chick flick and eating snacks. I thrust my hand into a chip bag and returned with a handful of chips. Drinking, even a little, made me really hungry. Thankfully, I reserved myself just enough to not get a hangover tomorrow morning…or should I say, later this morning.
“I’ve never liked that Robert Pattinson.” Okay, I lied we were watching New Moon. Chrissy hadn’t seen it yet so we were making her watch it so she could form her own opinion. “I personally like the books the best. Robeeerrrt,” I said mockingly, “ruined the movies for me. He looks way to scruffy to be from such an old time.” I laughed as I shoved more chips in my mouth.
“I tagged you as a Vampire lover. Why not Edward?” Chrissy asked.
“Well, Edward is awesome. He’s a romancer, a charmer. I would die if I could have Edward, but Robert Pattinson,” I sneered as I said his name, “is not Edward. Edward is from olden times. He wants to charm a girl. Not make them think he wastes all his time sleeping and slacking off. His hair is too fly away to be the right Edward. I imagined Edward with slick hair, more like Carlisle’s. I imagined him with jeans, a white t-shirt, and a suit coat over the shirt. Slick and suave. Not messy and tasteless. Bleck!”
“Really?” Chrissy asked. “I kinda like him. He was Cedric from the Harry Potter movies and I really liked Cedric.”
“Puuuuulllleea
se!” I retorted, mockingly. I really was mocking things today. “Harry Potter is totally different. Different characters, different cast and crew, different directors and producers. There is no way you can compare them. Harry Potter actually goes by the character descriptions, too. It’s way better!”
“I’m really liking this Twilight stuff,” Chrissy said as she smirked in my face. I could have punched that smirk right off that pretty little face, but I’m trying to control my temper. I started to count to ten, but was interrupted by Aaron.
“Guys, please, would you just shut up already. You’ve been going at it through the whole movie!”
Chrissy sighed. “You’re right.” She clicked the TV off and threw the remote on the couch by the snacks. “Why don’t we have some fun with Truth or Dare?”
“OH NO! I’m not playing that game again! EVER!”
Aaron nodded. “I agree with Eva on that. I won’t ever be dared again in my life.”
“Why?” Chrissy ask as she eyed Aaron.
“Our girls night on the last day of school went horribly wrong. We stumbled across some things-“
“And people!” I interrupted.
“That weren’t meant to be found,” Aaron finished.
“Well, why don’t we play truth?” Chrissy suggested. “I know all about your life and where you grew up, Aaron, but I’m clueless about your buddy, Eva.”
My eyes went wide. Did she really want to know about my past? The very thing I’ve kept locked up all these years. The very thing that caused my heart to pound, my knees to knock, and my throat to close up on me? Was she serious or was she just out of her mind!? I pleaded at Aaron with my eyes, but she didn’t bother to look at me.
“Umm…I’m not sure that’s a good idea, Chrissy…” she said. Whew. Crisis averted.
“Come on, it can’t be that bad. I want to learn more about you, Eva.”
She looked at me with those big honest eyes. I couldn’t refuse. Maybe, just maybe, it might help to face my past. “Umm………well…um,” I sputtered. My throat was dry. “I’ll just start at the very beginning. I was born in Delphi, Greece, but moved to New Haven, Indiana a year or so after I was born. My dad was in the military and was stationed over there, but my mom’s hometown was in New Haven. After my dad was out of the military things were really bad between my mother and father. They used to fight a lot. My mom would go out, somewhere, while my dad would get drunk. He used to beat me when I was little while my mom was out, somewhere. He didn’t have a job so he would stay home from me while my mom was at work. He would beat me then, too. He then left my mom and I for some pretty beach body bikini girl when I was four. Thankfully, I don’t physically remember any of this. I just know what my mom’s told me.” I took a breath. This was much harder then I thought. “My mom then married my stepfather when I was about 7. I do remember that. Then one winter night when I was about 11, I was spending the night with Aaron. My grandma picked me up that night and took me to her place. I was so confused because mom and dad knew I was there. They had dropped me off. Then she told me they were in a car crash on the way to the movies. They slid on a patch of ice and the car went into an icy river where they drowned. All my things were then transferred to my Grandmother’s house and I was put in her custody. I’m still living with her, but I’m scared because she’s gotten so old that she can barely walk now. As soon as I graduate, I’m going to make sure she’s taken care of.” I dropped my head onto my arms as I lay on my stomach.
“Oh….I’m so sorry that that happened to your parents….” Chrissy said as she patted my shoulder.
“It’s all good,” I said as I smiled up at her. “I have my Gran and I love her dearly. She’s the best. It feels like so long ago anyways.” I couldn’t tell her all of the truth. I wouldn’t tell someone I barely know that I think about them every day. I miss them so very much. After talking about this, I was still hungry. I sat up and grabbed the chip bag. As I ate my chips, I offered the bag to them. “Chsip?” I asked with a full mouth.
“Sure!” Chrissy said extra-perky. I looked at her funny. “FOOD FIGHT!” she yelled as she threw her handful of chips at me. I ducked in response, as my mouth was still full of chips. I swallowed hard and coughed in the process up it was all down. Aaron grabbed the bowl of popcorn as Chrissy dived after the other bag of chips. She rolled, picked up the bag, and was back on her feet in one swift movement. I started laughing and throwing chips at them, as Aaron threw her popcorn and Chrissy the other chips. I dug my hand in the bag to refill my arsenal. Oh no. I was out. I looked in the bag. Yup. No more ammo for me. “NO!” I yelled as I got up, jumped over the couch, and ran towards the kitchen. Aaron and Chrissy followed after me and I searched for more ammo. I didn’t find anything I liked until I stumbled across marshmallows. I just love marshmallows. “WAIT!” I yelled and the girls stopped. “Why waste junk food?” I cleared the island in the middle of the kitchen with one swift move of my arm. The pans and pots and cups and other dishware fell with a clatter to the floor. I held up a wait finger to the girls as I rummaged in the fridge. I pulled out chocolate syrup, strawberry syrup, chocolate chips and fresh strawberries. I dropped them all on the cupboard. I grabbed the syrups and sprayed a bunch all over the counter. Then threw in some marshmallows, chocolate chips, and strawberries. I threw a spoon to Chrissy and another to Aaron before grabbing my own. “Eat up!” I said as I dug my spoon into the gooey goodness.
Chrissy shrugged her shoulders and dug in. Aaron dug into the pile of junk food as well. I thought of something and smiled. “Hey, I’ll be right back!” I said as I darted up to my bag in Chrissy giant room. I shuffled around and pulled random things out until I found what I was looking for. Twinkies. I knew I packed them. I ran back down the stairs and slid into the kitchen. “Twinkies!” I hollered as I waved the box above my head in triumph.
“Yeah!” Chrissy and Aaron hollered in response.
I ripped open the box, and pulled out a couple. I unwrapped one and used it as my spoon. Man, it was good! If I had done this at home, Gran would have had a fit. This was great. I smiled as I took another huge bite. Man, I was still hungry. Why was I so hungry? I shrugged it off and took another bite.
“So, Eva, when’s your birthday?” Chrissy asked. I stopped. I had just stuffed my mouth full.
“Ith’ssssss juhan shtifh,” I tried to say.
“What?” Chrissy said as she laughed. Aaron and Chrissy then broke out into laughter.
I swallowed my mouthful. “Hey, that’s not funny!”
“But the look on your face was!” Aaron laughed back.
I glowered at her. “Thanks. Thanks a lot,” I said as seriously as possible at that moment.
Chrissy wiped a tear from her eye. “Oooh. In all seriousness, when is your birthday?”
“June sixth,” I replied as I crossed my arms.
“Really? Why that’s tomorrow! Or today I should say,” Chrissy said as she looked at the clock. 3 A.M. And yes, the party was just getting started. “Happy Birthday! Here’s your cake!” she smiled as she pointed to the goo on the counter.
“I don’t accept,” I said as I crossed my arms. “I want a real cake. Made with ice cream.” I couldn’t hold my straight face for much longer. We all burst out in laughter at the same time. It felt great to laugh this hard. As we were recovering, I looked at them and we’d start laughing again. As we were laughing, I kept thinking about how hungry I was. I stopped and stood up. “Why am I so hungry?” I said quietly.
“What?” Aaron asked coming down off her laughing high.
“Why am I so stinking hungry!?” I yelled. “I know that I get hungry after a little drink, but I’m still hungry. That was hours ago.” Something dawned on me. Something my Gran had told me about herself. I couldn’t believe it.
“OH MY GOD!” I yelled. I was officially spooked. I just couldn’t believe it. “Oh my god! Oh my god!” I ran upstairs and began to pace in Chrissy’s room. “Oh my god. Oh my god. Oh my god,” I kept chanting.
“Eva, what’s wrong?”
“Oh my god…”
“Eva?”
“Oh my god. Oh my god…..”
“Eva, what the hell is the matter!?” Aaron yelled at me. I snapped my head up at her.
“I think I’m pregnant,” I said in disbelief. “My Gran was in one of her ‘reminiscing’ moods and was talking to me about her pregnancy with my mom. She said she was starving. She didn’t have craving like most women; she was just plain hungry. I haven’t felt so hungry in my life.” I realized I was trembling and collapsed onto the bed. “I just don’t believe it,” I muttered.
“I’ll run down to the corner store and get a test just to make sure.” Chrissy grabbed her jacket and ran back down the stairs. I heard the front door shut as Aaron sat next to me.
“Eva, it’s going to be alright. Do you know whose it is, if it is it?”
“Yes, and you’re not going to believe me.”
“You’re my best friend, Eva; why wouldn’t I believe you?”
I couldn’t bear to tell her, but I had to. She’s my best and closest and only true friend. I couldn’t lose her, too. “I think its Gabriel’s,” I said slowly. I looked into shocked eyes. I wished I could read her mind sometimes. It’s a good thing she was already sitting down. “Aaron, I’m so sorry……Are you okay?”
“I think soo…” she said slowly and carefully. “I just didn’t think you guys were together yet.”
“Well, we weren’t officially, but I guess we’ll have to be now.” I looked at my hands cradled in my lap. I just couldn’t believe it. After staring at my hands for what seemed like forever, I heard the front door close and footsteps come running up the stairs. Chrissy came running into the room out of breath.
“I got it,” she said as she held up a paper bag.
I jumped up and grabbed the bag. I ran into Chrissy’s bathroom. I’m so glad that she had her own bathroom that was attached to her room. I ripped open the box, read the directions, and did the test. I slowly came out of the bathroom.
“So?” Aaron asked.
“I have to wait 10 minutes for it to work.” So, we waited….
I got up to check the test. It was pink. My heart sank. That meant I was pregnant. I came out of the bathroom and gave Aaron a hug, tears streaming down my cheeks.
“It was pink, wasn’t it?” She asked tenderly.
All I could do was keep crying.
Chrissy slowly backed out of the room. “I’ll just leave you two alone.” She shut the door, and I heard her footsteps retreat down the stairs.
“How am I going to tell him?” I asked Aaron.
“I don’t know, babe. We’ll think about that later,” she said as she patted my head. I flopped on the bed crying my eyes out. I just couldn’t believe it. Soon I was all out of tears and had fell asleep on Chrissy’s bed, puffy eyed with a wet pillow.

.:Chapter 10:. Aaron
The Whole Truth and Nothing But the Truth
By the end of the night Evan and I have both proved very hard adversaries in the competition for Patrick. Unfortunately, he had an early pick up in the morning so we had to call the night a little earlier than usual for our group. The girls decided to have decided to have a girly sleepover night. I personally needed a break from the glares Nate kept sending me.
The three of is lounged around watching movies and eating random snacks. I knew I had drank way too much and that I was going to have a killer headache in the morning, but I’d deal with some of Eva’s concoctions. After all I love the blue goodness. However, my nerves were starting to get fried with Eva and Chrissy’s arguing.
“I’ve never liked that Robert Pattinson,” Eva kept repeating as we were watching New Moon. Chrissy hadn’t seen it yet so we wanted to get her own opinion on the matter; however, neither her or Chrissy would shut up about it. “I personally like the books the best. Robeeerrrt,” Eve said mockingly, “ruined the movies for me. He looks way to scruffy to be from such an old time.” She laughed as she shoved more chips in her mouth, causing me to wait till she choked. I personally liked Jacob the best, with Taylor Lochner, but disliked the Twilight Sage. The plot was good, but poorly executed by the author and movie producers.
“I tagged you as a Vampire lover. Why not Edward?” Chrissy asked. They needed to shut up. They were distracting me from the only good movie in the series.
“Well, Edward is awesome. He’s a romancer, a charmer. I would die if I could have Edward, but Robert Pattinson,” Eva sneered as she said his name, “is not Edward. Edward is from olden times. He wants to charm a girl. Not make them think he waste all his time sleeping and slacking off. His hair is too fly away to be the right Edward. I imagined Edward with slick hair, more like Carlisle’s. I imagined him with jeans, a white t-shirt, and a suit coat over the shirt. Slick and suave. Not messy and tasteless. Blech!” Eva was starting to get on my nerves, she just made me miss the part were Bella goes cliff diving. I totally didn’t like the Robert guy either, but I had the respect to watch a movie through. She never shuts up, which why I usually just watched a movie with Erik or Nate. Gab was the same as Eva when it came to films.
“Really?” Chrissy asked. “I kinda like him. He was Cedric from the Harry Potter movies, and I really liked Cedric.”
“Puuuuulllleease!” Eva retorted, mockingly. “Harry Potter is totally different. Different characters, different cast and crew, different directors and producers. There is no way you can compare them. Harry Potter actually goes by the character descriptions too. It’s way better!”
“I’m really liking this Twilight stuff,” Chrissy said as she smirked. They were really getting on my nerves and I could see Eva counting to ten so before she could make my headache even worse, I interrupted them
“Guys, please would you just shut up already. You’ve been going at it through the whole movie!” I roared.
Chrissy sighed. “You’re right.” She clicked the TV off and threw the remote on the couch by the snacks. “Why don’t we have some fun with Truth or Dare?” I paled at her idea because that went so well the last time. Which reminded me that I’d yet to ask Gab were and why he had a certain pair of boxers.
“OH NO! I’m not playing that game ever! EVER!” Eva screamed.
I nodded, agreeing with her. “I agree on that. I won’t ever be dared again in my life.” It was mainly out of fear of what would happen.
“Why?” Chrissy asked as she eyed me, which caused a chill to go down my back. Note to self never be left alone in a room with Chrissy. She had something up her sleeve and I knew I wasn’t going to like it.
“Our girls night on the last day of school went horribly wrong. We stumbled across some things-”
“And people!” Eva interrupted.
“That weren’t meant to be found.” I finished, still wondering were the guys got that type of technology to spy any way.
“Well, why don’t we play truth?” Chrissy suggested. “I know all about your life and where you grew up, Aaron, but I’m clueless about your buddy, Eva.” I shook my head at her words. Eva had pains in her life Chrissy had no right to ask about, and she didn’t know everything about me. Truthfully she new just a bit more than my brothers, which was slip to none.
I sighed, seeing the panic in Eva’s face, knowing that she was looking at me for help. However, it was her story to tell and she’d make the decision to inform Chrissy of her stupid family. Although, the look I was getting was heartbreaking.
“Umm.I’m not sure that’s a good idea, Chrissy..“ I said. There I helped her out. The rest was up to her. The head I felt was starting to hurt worse, causing me to feel a bit dizzy, but I wasn’t going to let them know that.
“Come on, it can’t be that bad. I want to learn more about you, Eva.”
When Chrisy looked at her with those big honest eyes I knew she was a goner, which was I wasn’t surprised when she started to talk. “Umm…well…um,” Eva sputtered, causing me to close my eyes. Her story broke my heart. Thankfully, I don’t physically remember any of this. I just know what my mom’s told me.” Eva paused to take a breath, and I took it as a sign to help her so I put a hand on her back. I’m still living with her, but I’m scared because she’s gotten so old that she can barely walk now. As soon as I graduate, I’m going to make sure she’s taken care of.” Eva dropped her head onto her arms as she laid on her stomach.
“Oh….I’m so sorry that that happened to your parents….” Chrissy said as she patter Eva’s shoulder.
“It’s all good,” Eva smiled, but I knew she was hiding the real anger and hurt the memories brought her. “I have my Gran and I love her dearly. She’s the best. It feels like so long ago anyways.” I knew she missed them with every fiber of her being, but this was one subject I didn’t breach unless Eva brought it up. It hurt her to much, and I had no right to force it. As Eva sat up and grabbed the chips, I smiled at her child expression as she offered them. “Chips?” She asked with her mouth full.
“Sure!” Chrissy said extra-perky, meaning she was trying to hide her real thoughts. Then I knew what was coming next. “FOOD FIGHT!” she yelled as she threw her handful of chips at Eva. Then all hell broke loose. Knowing I needed to cover my butt, I dove for the bowl of popcorn as Chrissy dived after the other bag of chips. Chips and popcorn flew all around the room that was filled with laughter. When Eva realized she was out of ammo, she screamed “NO!” then jumped off the couch, and ran towards the kitchen with Chrissy and I following her. “WAIT!” Eva yelled causing us to stop. “Why waste junk food?” Eva said, clearing the island in the middle of the kitchen with one swift move of her arm. The pans and pots and cups and other dishware fell with a clatter to the floor Eva pulled out chocolate syrup, strawberry syrup, chocolate chips and fresh strawberries. Eva threw in some marshmallows then covered it with syrup and all the other junk. Throwing spoons at us as we were told to, “Eat up!” By Eva, causing me to smile at the sugary goodness.
“Hey, I’ll be right back!” Eva said as she darted up the stairs. Chrissy and I just shrugged, curious about her plan, which soon revealed itself. “Twinkies!” She hollered as she waved the box above her head with gusto.
“Yeah!” Chrissy and I hollered in response.
She ripped open the box and pulled out a couple.
“So, Eva, when’s your birthday?” Chrissy asked.
“Ith’ssssss juhan shtifh,” Eva tried to say, but her mouth was full of the Twinkie goodness.
“What?” Chrissy said as she laughed, which causing both Chrissy and I to brake out into laughter.
“Hey, that’s not funny!” Eva said once she managed to swallow.
“But the look on your face was!” I laughed back at her.
“Thanks. Thanks a lot,” Eva said as seriously as possible at that moment with a glare.
“Oooh. In all seriousness, when is your birthday?” Chrissy asked.
“June sixth,” Eva replied while crossing her arms.
“Really? Why that’s tomorrow! Or today I should say,” Chrissy said as she looked at the clock. 3 A.M. And yes, the party was just getting started. “Happy Birthday! Here’s your cake!” she smiled as she pointed to the goo on the counter.
“I don’t accept, I want a real cake. Made with ice cream.” Eva demanded, but she couldn’t hold a straight face for long. We all burst out in laughter at the same time. As we were recovering, I looked at them and we’d start laughing again “Why am I so hungry?” Eva said quietly. I almost caught it, but sadly I didn’t
“What?” I asked coming down off my laughing high.
“Why am I so stinking hungry!?” She yelled. “I know that I get hungry after a little drink, but I’m still hungry. That was hours ago.” Eva, started to say, but was then stopped by a dumbstruck face.
“OH MY GOD!" Eva yelled as she ran up the stairs. "Oh my god. Oh my god. Oh my god,” Eva kept chanting and yelling I was starting to panic because she was in such a chaotic state.
“Eva, what’s wrong?” I demanded to know
“Oh my god…”
“Eva?”
“Oh my god. Oh my god…..”
“Eva, what the hell is the matter!?” I yelled at her, causing her to snap her head up.
“I think I’m pregnant,” she said in disbelief. “My Gran was in one of her ‘reminiscing’ moods and was talking to me about her pregnancy with my mom. She said she was starving. She didn’t have craving like most women; she was just plain hungry. I haven’t felt so hungry in my life. I just don’t believe it,” she continued to muttered. Chrissy had to tell me to breathe so I could get a grip and help Eva out.
“I’ll run down to the corner store and get a test just to make sure.” Chrissy grabbed her jacket and ran back down the stairs, and I sat down next to have, knowing I needed to stay calm so she didn’t have a panic attack.
“Eva, it’s going to be alright. Do you know whose it is, if it is it?” I asked, knowing that I’d force the guy to take responsibility, even if I had to teaser his butt.
“Yes, and you’re not going to believe me.”
“You’re my best friend, Eva; why wouldn’t I believe you?”
“I think it's Gabriel’s,” Eva said slowly. It took a second to sink in, but when it did all I could do was stare as the rage started to flow in my veins. He should have known, better, and I was going to make him pay, dearly. However, I knew at the moment Eva was my priority, meaning I’d deal with him later when she wasn’t about to fly off her rocker. It’s a good thing I was already sitting down. “Aaron, I’m so sorry……Are you okay?” She asked, causing me to blink back my anger for the time being.
“I think soo…” I said slowly and carefully, trying to mask my feelings “I just didn’t think you guys were together yet.”
“Well, we weren’t officially, but I guess we’ll have to be now,” Eva said, which I totally agreed with, but I wasn't going to argue with her now. She looked at her hands cradled in her lap, and jumped when she heard the front door close and footsteps come running up the stairs. Chrissy came running into the room out of breath.
“I got it,” she said as she held up a paper bag. Eva jumped up and grabbed the bag then ran into bathroom. Chrissy and I sat down outside as she used the kit.
“You okay?” Chrissy asked me while Eva peed on a stick.
“No, but let’s just see what the results say first.”
“It’s Gab’s, isn’t it?”
“Yes,” I said threw clenched teeth, then Eva came out of the bathroom. “So?” I asked.
“I have to wait 10 minutes for it to work.” So, we waited….
Eva came out of the bathroom and gave me hug with tears streaming down her cheeks. My heart plummeted, and I had to make sure so I asked the question both Chrissy and I already knew the answer to.
“It was pink, wasn’t it?” I asked tenderly. All she could do was keep crying, affirming our fears.
Chrissy slowly backed out of the room. “I’ll just leave you two alone.” She shut the door, and I had to fight my anger back down.
“How am I going to tell him?” She asked me.
“I don’t know, babe. We’ll think about that later,” I said as I patted her head. She flopped on the bed crying her eyes out. I just couldn’t believe it. Soon she was all out of tears and had fell asleep on Chrissy’s bed, puffy eyed with a wet pillow. After she was out I heard the doorbell ring and Eva was to deep asleep for it to register, but I stood up and narrowed my eyes when I heard who it was.
“Gab, you need to leave right now, before your sister hears you,” Chrissy said, but it was too late. I walked out of the room.
“You are dead, dead you hear me,” I harshly said.
