ALFHEIM

Alfheim is the realm of the Elves, autonomous from any Sidhe rule. There is no recognized ruler of Alfheim, and the place is as chaotic as the Alvene are themselves. Some nobles have speculated that there must be some sort of council of elders in power, but most people believe this to be no more than paranoid conspiracy theories. The fact is that Alfheim is ruled by none, unless it is run by every single Elf in concert.

The land is shrouded in a starry summer night, where the deep forests are illuminated by a place white light as if there was aa moon in the sky. The huge palace of Alfheim rises high above the treetops, created by trees that have grown themselves into perfectly flat shapes. Thousands of windows fill the walls, and the silver-plated rooftops shine slightly in the night.

There are few areas in Alfheim that even the most hated enemy is restricted from. Violence is forbidden, and privacy can be quite hard to come by, for even living spaces are considered accessible to the public. Of cource, common courtesy keeps people from disturbing private moments, but one can never be sure that someone won't barge right in. Though few people around the place do anything as crass and inelegant as to barge.

Guests never refused in Alfheim, and most of its inhabitants pride themselves for the hospitality they exhibit. But even though guests are treated as royalty while they are there, actually managing to become an inhabitant in this land of plenty is quite difficult. Only elves are ever allowed to become permanent residents, and they are all quite adamant on this point. So most people enjoy the stay, well knowing that it is transistory, and that they must soon take their leave.

Indeed, Alfheim, which includes the environs of the palace, is riddled with numerous small gateways to the mortal realm, and they see frequent use. Almost all Elves live in the mortal realm, and only occasionally visit their racial home of Alfheim, and when they do visit they use these lesser portals. They are so numerous, and used by the faeries that most often traffic with humans, that it comes as little surprise that many mortals have found their way to Alfheim through the ages.

In the Unseelie Court, a similar place mirrors Alfheim, and it is named Svartalfheim. It is where the Dark Elves live. Comparison should not be drawn while elves are present, if one wishes to keep ones tongue....
