1. "The Plague"

For the blood of the human is taint,
and would surely make one faint,
The hunger must continue to burn inside,
and the pain and suffering I must hide.
To feed would be certain death for me,
but to starve also shall be.
The decision I am forced to make,
is the one that could also break.
Should I drink the tainted blood to quench,
or starve myself and have my body wrench?
This black plague has certainly been harsh on this being,
who needs this blood to continue seeing,
the world go down on this very night,
with all the puny humans in a fright.
One by one they drop to the ground,
with one loud thumping sound.
The blood pulsing through their veins,
carrying the disease that brings everyone pain.
Not one drop good enough to drink,
and that makes me stop to think,
"How much longer is left for me in this world,
with everything gone crazy and unfurled?"
Then I close my eyes and go to sleep,
never again to make a peep.

2. "A Sleepless Halloween Night"

Disembodied whispers in your ear
Ghastly shadows causing fear

A chilling breeze flows through your bones.
There’s that sinking feeling you’re not alone.

Lying motionless in your bed
Heart pumping full of dread

Darkness lingers through the endless night.
The skeleton inside you full of fright

Dare not move, dare not look;
Praying for your Holy book

Want to scream, want to cry;
Feeling like you’re about to die

Specters, phantoms, and things unseen;
Just be thankful it’s only Halloween.

3. The Wedding

Gather around children and you will hear
A murderous tale of last Halloween year

It’s a ghastly story, frightening and gay
But that was nothing compared to what the neighbors would say

The tables had been set, decorated and trimmed
But who would ever guess that the killers would be them

The invitations had said: Be there by 6
But no one expected this Halloween trick

The couple were as stunning as brides and grooms go
But no one expected this hell of a show

The ceremony was short yet no less lovely
All the better to end quickly for the guests were all hungry

On the left were the brides maids seated row by row
The groomsmen beside them, their skulls sliced into bowls

The grooms family were gracious, not wanting to be rude
They sat to the right, steaming and barbecued

The bride’s family had been fried and trussed up like catfish
It was hard to choose with which to make a sandwich

The band were diced up and made into stew
Their eyes served with toothpicks but a little rubbery to chew

Of course only the blood could wash all of this down
There was so much flowing you were likely to drown

For desert the flower girls were sinfully good
Sweetened and iced right where they’d stood

Somehow the ring bearer had managed to escape
The caterers went after him, of them there were eight

It had been in all the papers, described word by word
It’s surprising to hear that you’d never heard

Come on out this year, their anniversary will be grand
But bring some spices, no one wants to be served bland

4. Scary Mary

There once was an old woman called Mary
Her voice was croaky and scary
She had an old house
What was riddled with wood Louse
Which always made you wary
It is said her house is haunted
By a woman who used to be a bitch
She used to whack kids with belts
And she used to have a nervous twitch
But one day she was killed by a kid
From that day he hid
Never to return again

[kians mummy]

5. A Halloween Lament

I remember when vampires
Didn't sparkle,
Glitter,
Glisten,
Or reflect light as though
A thousand diamonds
D
    r
       i
          p
               p
                    e
                         d

From their skin.

They and werewolves and ghouls and
Zombies were feared;
Terrifying creatures of the night,
Not
Classmates,
Doctors,
Or the mechanic I take my truck to
When the engine won't start.

My elders have always romanticized the past,
"I remember when"
       and
"Those were the days"
Are common phrases for those who
Believe that what was once the standard
Never needed changing.

Vampires did not come out before dark,
Shimmer,
Or sit through biology exams,
And
Those
Were
The
Days.

6 . Masquerade

My evenings spent in the ballroom
Glass heels introduced to marble
Lace adorned with pearls
Hidden safely behind a plaster mask
Remaining anonymous
It’s where I met you
Your close cut coat tails
And your face made in Venice
With the finest steps
We danced in tune to quiet rhythm
The walls closing in on us
As colors give way and the world melts
Till’ it’s just your hand on my waist
And my head on your shoulders
A falsification of romance
I ask of your name yet you say nothing
Anonymity causes curiosity
But I, being a proper woman, won’t ask
And so we dance until midnight
Quietly hoping night might stretch further
And only until we part do you kiss my hand softly
Before you leave into dense crowd
And I, ever optimistic, don’t mind being lonely
With thoughts of you to keep me company.

In Death

I sought a time once before known
When
Death rattles peirced every bone
Cobwebs completely covered my home
Boughs of trees eternally groan'd
Ghosts and gouls wandered and moan'd
When kings of old were finally dethroned
By some old and haggered bending crone

I sought a time once before known
When
You and I are finally alone
In death
