Moonlight in California
Moonlight: Dreams & Demons pt3
Caitlin woke up with the dawn still. Well a little before. For some reason she was a little more... energized then usual. So she began her usual morning ritual of making coffee eggs and sausage, bacon and a glass of milk and orange juice. Only she made enough for two people in case he was hungry though she knew that someimes people were still nautious for days. But she'd give it a shot. she was dressed in the old shirt from him that she had kept it had become a habit of hers and some running short shorts. HEr long legs were full of muscle and she body was in top form and she felt great today.
James rolled over and groaned, the smell of cooking and coffee brought him around. Rolling out of bed and grabbing his pants he padded out into the kitchen area to find her wearing his shirt from the night of the date. She looked a lot better in it then he did, "Good morning, sleep well?" It was odd not to wake up at home with Molly down the hall and making oatmeal and juice. But, all things considered he liked this, and really liked being around her.
"Good morning you feel okay to drink some coffee? It's fresh now. I always make it fresh. I have a lot of food in case you can eat. I hope the bed wasn't to bad. Robin gave me hers. I don't need a lot of light with the window and all so that's why the bed's the only thing in there. I live out of my suitcase just in case. There is a dresser in the closet I'm sure I have something large enough to fit you... or that stretches." Cait smiled turning the moment he walked out of the door. Blushing slightly realizing she was wearing something of his that he could wear.
"It's ok, this stuff is fine until I get a chance to get home and change. I think I might look a little weird in your clothes, you just look hot in mine." He smiled back at her blush, and came closer to see what she made, it all smelled wonderful and his stomach growled. James leaned in to peck her on the cheek, everything in her apartment was the way she wanted it. But the idea that she was living out of a suitcase bothered him just a little bit. Sneaking a glance he saw it wasn't even eight o' clock yet, "You always an early riser? We fell asleep at four."
"Sometimes." She blushed harder. Gina never complained or rather complained every single day and chance she got about her shabby living but soon she would live above her bar cafe so there was no need for her to really have any kind of furnishings and she was getting close to having the money to pay outright for the buidling and to maybe get a loan from Anthony for the rest while she continued to work. She was getting almost there and now this demon and james again... it seemed like life kept throwing things in front of her sometimes. But thankfully none of it was Marcus.
"Molly loves rising with the sun on Saturday's, then making enough noise to wake me. Either I take her to get something to eat, make it and then watch her favorite shows until the rest of the world wakes up." He smiled at her and put a little sugar in his and took a sip, it was really good. "Anything I can do to help?" James was enjoying spending this time with her. Looking around he could picture brining some of the old furniture here and maybe having pizza and a movie her with her and Molly.
"Transfer to another case. Don't keep the Alley killer case. Everything is cooked and just staying warm on the oven. I didn't want to eat until you woke up so..." Caitlin said softly. She wanted him off the dangerous case. She wanted him safe. She wanted to stop seeing that fond look on his face and in his eyes when he looked at her. As if he could see in her something she couldn't. Something worth being there, But Caitlin was a monster... a well behaved monster but none the less the thrill of the kill was better then sex. Eating your prey was even more delicious then any fine quisine. She was having a life... and dealing with her small problems.
"It isn't as easy as saying I don't wanna do this, besides I already know there is gonna be fall out from the punch." He opened the oven and pulled the food out and set it on the range top. "Randle is probably gonna try to suspend me later because of what happened. Would you stop working at the club, if I admitted I was concerned about your safety as well?" He looked around for plates and silverware, so they could eat and probably continue this conversation.
Caitlin got the two plates and silverware out and the orange juice. "You're not the only one who got a hit out on him. If it was to dangerous I wouldn't be working there. I know how to defend myself and I know how to take care of myself James... But you got a concussion just from getting punched back from this killer. you have to look out for Molly. Who's going to watch over her if you died?" Caitlin asked softly looking at James. She did know how to take care of herself. She knew martial arts and she was a werewolf. It's not like much could really take her down.
"He doesn't know anything about you other than you can throw a punch." he said with a laugh. "He hit way too hard even for a guy that worked out, something was up. I am looking out for Molly and doing my job too, it could only be a matter of time before this psycho could start hurting kids. She would more than likely go to my mother, even though we haven't talked since I got out of the service." Telling Caitlin about Barbara Banner was rather difficult, considering what had been said the last time they talked.
"That killer isn't normal... I just don't want to see you hurt James. Your boss know's that I'm the only witness until the girl wakes up and can say anything." Caitlin said calmly not really wanting to talk about this because truthfully it wasn't any of her business. She put what she wanted on her plate and it was half of everything she had made. She said a small grace to the spirits before digging in. She used energy last night not getting much sleep and all, and the activities of course.
He followed suit and dug into her cooking, "I'm thrilled for your concern, but given the fact of what you just said. I might have to keep an eye on the only other witness, in case he saw you." He smiled at her as he took a large bite of eggs, and chewed thoughtfully. Figuring her worst nightmare would be him hanging over her shoulder until he was cleared to return to the case. James took another sip of coffee as he heard his phone ring, Mike was calling him, probably with an update.
"I'm really close to getting the funds together to buy the place I want for the cafe/bar. I only need more time and to keep working. It's the closest thing I have to a dream to do." Caitlin said with a shrug before grabbing his phone and handing it over. She finished and began grabbing plates and taking them to the sink she didn;t have a dishwasher but she didn't have more then three of anything but dishes so it wasn't a real problem.
He opened the phone and smiled immediately after saying hello, "Hi hunny, did you sleep ok? Uh huh, what did you have for breakfast, and did you eat it all? Yeah, daddy is ok, I slept over at a friend's house last night too. I'll be over to pick you up later and we'll go feed the ducks again." The rest of the phone call was quick and he smiled at her when he hung up, "She wanted to know why daddy wasn't there when she woke up."
"I heard. I mean I figured it out how you were speaking. Your voice goes soft when you talk to her." Caitlin said at a loss for anything else to say. She just stood washing the dishes and pans she had used to cook. She didn't mind besides she had an after noon shift at the diner and then she didn't even know if Hank was going to fight the police about being open or not. She had a bet going and it was sixty Hank fourty Police about it.
"Well would you like to maybe alter my plans and the three of us go to the beach instead. Or playplace if you feel like hanging out with me and her." he said coming over to dry what she washed. Molly had asked the next time they could see her, seemed like a nice idea. But, if she prefered not going then he'd spend the day with Molly. The quiet was broken by her cell phone ringing over on the counter.
"I can't... I work my Diner job then straight to the club to check on Hank. Hold on a moment please." Cait said grabbing the cell phone and opening it up. "Hello?" She asked looking up at the ceiling of her dingy apartment. She wondered if it was Gina or possibly Robin calling. James it seemed was going to be very persistant. Meeting occasionally at the park was good enough for her... and would be good enough for the woman who watched them. Or she'd have words with the police man she'd punched in the stomach.
Robin was doing her usual check in, "Good morning Caitlin, hope I'm not bothering you. I wanted to see about getting together in the next couple of days maybe over a couple bowls of chilli and some cornbread?" James poured another cup of coffee and sat at the table and made a few text messages. He suddenly grimaced and looked at her with an apparent need to tell her something. Robin continued, "If you want just get back to me about when you're free."
"Well something happened at the club so I might be able to get a few days free. So you're welcome to come down once I figure things out Aunt Robin. I sort of have a guest over right now though so we'll have to talk about this later alright? Sorry this was so short I miss you and the cornbread." Caitlin laughed softly and hung up before looking over at James. "What's wrong?" she asked wondering what the text's had said.
"Randle wants to charge you with assaulting a police officer and I am suspended one week pending an IA investigation. While almost every cop I have pull with has already told Mike that they will testify that Randle started everything. You may need to contact an attorney just to handle the formality." He leaned back in his chair and spun his phone on the table, with a long sigh. Well, he would have a whole week to do things for Molly, and probably be able to bring Caitlin the furniture if he could borrow Wendy's truck.
"Alright give me a moment." Caitlin said picking up her cell phone again. She hit button number three and waited. Anthony never usually kept her waiting for long and she knew she could count on his help now. besides the only person who had seen what had happened was James and Cait was pretty sure he'd help say she hadn't done much to him so she wouldn't go to jail. Last thing she needed was a record Marcus might be able to find.
"Hello, my little friend, I take it you need something?" was the answer after two rings. Anthony normally was asleep at this time of the day unless he had court or something else to do. "I hear the demon was at your club last night as well as the police. I hope you stayed away from the situation, since it is a very nasty situation." After his little discussion he stopped and waited for her answer.
"Yes.... and sort of. I dropped by a local building and picked up some useful things against it. I gave one to another friend of mine too. It was close but... now I'm being charged with assulting the officer in charge of the unit. HE was calling me a whore and other horrible things and as the only witness... I only gave him a tap to the gut. Nothing near what I wanted to give him. But... I need a lawyer... they want to lock me up. you know that can't happen." Caitlin said walking into the bedroom for he second half of the conversation. She was also getting dressed, Pair of black slacks and her top for her afternoon shift. She didn't have a lot of clothes either but she didn't mind. "I have to work today at the little resturant, and I'm sure Hank will want the club open again. Anthony... I tried to draw it away from it's victem... it ignored me. I drew blood but... it wanted the woman and I'm not sure why... it used some kind of I dunno something to knock her out she;s in the hospital." Caitlin said and finished buttoning up her little red short sleeved shirt. She had a cami under it and only needed the apron to finish. It was a few hours until she needed to leave but She needed Anthony to get her a lawyer.
"Ok, I'll look into the demon and your little incident with the policeman, is there anyone you trust to stay with you through processing while I get you released pending the court appearance. We will need witnesses to the fact he opened his mouth about you. And don't worry my men will figure out why the demon settled on a normal girl rather than your tasty blood." Anthony then waited for her to tell him anything else before continuing with the call. James grabbed his stuff and pulled on his boots, he'd get the a cab to the precinct then go get Molly.
"Yes two policemen. Mike and James. James has been suspended for also punching the same man... He was beyond rude and I'd like to press charges if I can and withhold the information I gave them. As my right isn't it? What do you mean stay with me by the way?" Cait asked not understanding that last bit, but she was glad Anthony was there for her especially now. Though she wondered if she would owe him a favor after this. It wasn't exactly a favor from Robin's.
"You will have to be fingerprinted and processed by the police, a formality since by the time it is finished my clerk will be there with your release. If you trust these police then one of them should be there while this happens, I will call in a favor or two to push bail and a court date after the fifteenth of November far past the full moon." He was unconcerned about all the details knowing that she didn't lie to him, and was sure if the cops backed her there would be no trouble. "James, this is the man from the park with the little girl? Shall I look into getting him cleared off the charges too?" Anthony was penning notes about the cases and drawing as they talked.
"This cheif called the child services agency on James... and has been trying to nail him for as many things as he could. James will like time off to be with Molly... but this cheif is making a mess of the city by going after specific cops. It's almost like he has a personal affront to James... and since James has to go in too... I'll go with him. What will I owe you Anthony? For all of this." Caitlin asked brushing her hair before putting it up in a pony tail and pulling on some flats.
"First off, you do not go in until you hear from me, let James do as he has to now. I will look into everything with my usual attention to detail, you just
listen to what exactly I tell you. As far as payment or owing, I suppose dinner and a little enjoyment might do a wonder for representing you and helping your friend." He flipped the page over and began to sketch a nude of Caitlin, having seen the young werewolf from almost every angle. "If you inform your policeman that I'm going to represent him as well, make him pay you in whatever you wish."
"then it's a deal... Thank you Anthony... and hurry up with your people to deal with this Demon... He knows my scent and I stopped him from having a meal. I don't think he'll be happy. I will wait for your call until then I will go to work like usual." Caitlin said with a smile, she could always depend on Anthony. It was becoming a bad habit. Robin's advice on not trusting vampires even Anthony rang in her mind but... With this demon Anthony seemed more willing to actually be helpful and trustworthy... something about the pact or whatever it was.
James was waiting when she came back out, "Care to share a cab a little way before I head to the precinct?" He watched her and smiled noting her easy gait and possibility she was heading to work. The cell rang again and he looked down and grimaced again. Holding up his finger so she didn't say anything, "Hello Leiutent, yes I am coming in to fill out a report and leave my sidearm and badge. No, I do not know where the waitress from the club is, but if I talk to her I will let her know she has charges filed." Apparently his answers irked his boss who hung up the phone.
"James... I talked to a friend of mine and... Well I have a lawyer who is willing to represent you as well. I have to wait for the call before I go down to the precinct but... I'll help you in any way I can. that chief is a dick and I know he's coming after you personally. Just... take care okay? I don't want you to be a target from this killer." Caitlin said walking up until she was standing within inches of James. Leaning up his scent strang surrounding her she leaned up and kissed his lips lightly.
He wrapped his arms around her and deepend the kiss, wanting to leave an impression. "I appreciate your desire to help me, and when you get that call, we make a date to go together for your processing. Even without my shield on me the guys will let me be there with you. And turn about is fair, I don't want you being a target either." He kissed her again before saying, "Don't make me handcuff us together to keep you safe, Caitlin."
"I'm safer then you might think JAmes... It's a deal... a date between us... but to the aquarium and with Molly." Caitlin said trying to distract James. His teasing tone had a serious edge to it about cuffing them together. It just couldn't happen though, not with the full moon in a few days. "The lawyer will demand you and your partner there because you were witnesses to the event. so that one is already settled." She pulled away from him glad she didn't go for lipstick or anything. He needed to go and she still had to clean up a little and tidy up herself.
"I'm fine with it, just call before you head to the police station. And I'm gonna try bringing you the furniture I promised." He let her go and smiled at her, before he opened the door and left. The cab was waiting for him when he got to the street and he got in. Caitlin was left all alone inside her apartment now smelling of James in several places.
Caitlin took a deep breath and let it out. She finished the dishes and washed the counter and the table and the seats. Erasing any scents lingering there. She wanted only a little of her scent on the furniture and her clothing and the bed.... but not permanent in the room. She was careful of that. Soon enough she left and locked up, Jogging for the diner like she always did. It was good to still have her rutine. It helped her stay balanced.
They smiled and greeted her when she came in, Charlie was talking to the customers at the lunch bar. "Well, there is the most dependable worker I have here. How is your day been?" he smiled at her even as her cell phone rang. He rolled his eyes even as a couple other waitresses milled about, "You kids and those cell thingys." It was a text from Gina,
"How's everyting doing today, I have two more classes and thought to come have a sandwhich or some fires before calling Hank."
"Sounds good but I'm at work so I have to go.See you later" Cait said before putting her phone on silent. "I'll clock in now and get to work boss." she grinned up at Charlie. before getting on the apron that had her name tag on it and clocking in. She immedietly went straight to work clearing tables setting them and serving people at tables on her side of the Diner.
Time blew by like lightning and before she knew it Gina arrived and got a seat in Caitlin's section. "I'll have a swee tea and the chef salad with low fat ranch, please. Oh, and if you got a second I need to talk with you." she tried her best not to make it sound dramatic. As she waited Caitlin noticed two men come in and have a seat and smelled of gunpowder and herbs. It wasn't until she was close that Anthony, both men smelled like they had been near Anthony within the past hour.
"Sure when I have a second." Cait smiled at her friend and jotted the order down before going to the booth with the men in it. "Can I get you a drink, or are you here for business?" She asked softly looking them over. She would talk to Gna but if these guys were some of Anthony's crew then she needed to know what was going on and why they were here. She had her pad ready just in case but she doubted they were going to order anything.
"Coffee and two cheeseburgers.
" they responded without much else in the way of conversation. She moticed they both had a security badge inside their breast pockets. Perhaps Anthony sent them to watch over her, in which case she wondered what he had told them about her. Charlie had the coffee already for her when she dropped off the order to Mark in the kitchen. "So, Caity baby, when you gonna invite me over to your place to cook for you?" Mark asked in his usual teasing tone.
"I'm not MArk, My kitchen isn't even a fifth the size this one is. You wouldn't fit. Hurry up hungry people are waiting you know." Caitlin said rolling her eyes and walking back over to Gina with her drink and then the two mens. Once that was done she put the coffee back and grabbed the salad from mark before setting it down in front of Gina. "So what's up I only have a few seconds." She said with a smile.
"Well, I was wondering about last night after I left, but Hank just called me and said they are keeping the club closed tonight and I won the tickets for the luncheon. So, November twelfth at noon, you me and Aunt Robin have a date to see the men for the Children's Hospital calander." She put her chin in her palm and waited to see if Caitlin was going to share any information. While she waited she drizzled the dressing onto her salad and took a bite. Caitlin's phone made the text sound and she read Hank's message confirming what Gina just said.
"She'll love it. She's coming to visit soon I'll let her know then alright? Oh the next orders up I have to go... After work you can come over if you want." Cait said as she walked to get the burgers for the two men. She knew she was going to be harrassed until Gina got details out of her but really Caitlin was wondering when she was going to get that call from Anthony. She was a little worried now.
After Gina and the men had left things got rather slow around the diner. And twenty minutes before the end of the shift Anthony called, "Alright my tender little morsel, tomorrow morning have your policeman take you in for processing. My clerk will be there at nine, thirty on the nose with your bail confirmation." Charlie was watching her, but everything broke up some when Jenny came rushing in. "I'm sorry I'm running late, I had to get my mom to watch the baby, since John decided that a single mom with a son was too much to handle!"
"Nine thirty alright... I'll call James and have him meet me there then. I gotta go I'm getting off work." Cait said hanging up quickly, being called food in such cute manners had bothered her at first but not really anymore. It was just what Anthony did. "Maybe next time Jenny you shouldn't go for band guys." Caitlin offered gently before taking off the apron and getting ready to clock out.
"That was Evan, John was the mechanic, and they both sucked like hell." she said before tying hers behind her back and getting a new order pad. Still managing a smile at Caitlin before kissing her picture of the baby and starting to work. Charlie gave her the money and cautioned her not to go down any dark alleys. Gina was sitting outside when Caitlin came out in her car with what smelled like pizza. "I rented a couple of movies and thought we could celebrate our victory, whatcha say?"
"Okay but I have an early morning so not to late for me." Cait smiled at her friend getting in her car. She pulled out her cell and dialed James's number. It wasn't too late yet he should still be up. Besides he needed to be there seeing as he was the closest witness. She hoped he picked up she was no good with answering machines anyways.
"Hi!" Molly answered the cell phone, and Caitlin could hear James call for her. "Molly Virginia Banner, where are you and my cell phone?" he sounded mildly ammused and a little irked. In return Molly giggled and whispered, "We playin' hide n seeks, I hides really goods." Gina looked at her wondering who she was calling. The little girl continued next, "You come plays too, you hide with me?"
"No Molly But I need to talk to your Daddy... I betcha your Daddy finds you soon Molly!" Caitlin teases the little girl in hopes of upsetting her enough for her to get loud and James to get the phone. She needed to talk to James about tomorrow and getting a babysitter for Molly. But she really needed to talk to James and see if she could get him to come. Anthony said she needed him there... it was either that or his partner.
"Cailin? Me stop playin and get daddy!" she said then grinted as she climbed out of her hiding spot. "DADDEE, is Cailin! Come talk to Cailin!" she cried as she hurried down the hall. James must have swept her up cause she started giggling, "Hello, Caitlin?" He sounded happier then he did dealing with JFS and his boss, and Molly continued to giggle. "What can I do for you, I'm sure Molly probably wants you to come over and play hide and seek, but I figure this is about the charges."
"You're right it is... I hope you don't mind but... you were the closest eye witness and I was told to bring you along by the lawyer... I don't have any days off but a work a late shift for Jenny the day after tomorrow... We can all go to an amusement park or something if you'd like." Caitlin said trying not to get defensive because of Gina being in the car listening in as hard as she could.
"The lawyer probably wanted me along to make sure nothing hanky happens during processing. I hope they are ready to get your release ready, cause I'd rather not let you sit in holding cell. What time should we meet you, Molly can visit with Mike while we deal with everything." Molly giggled and was trying to get James's attention, he was making sure everything was covered. "As far as amusement park tomorrow, how about the aquarium, since we are going to the obsevatory after you get back."
"WEll the day after tomorrow I'll be free early in the morning so I just though it was going to be a nice day to hang out for a few hours before having to take the night for my job at the Diner. I was hoping to save the aqaurium for later in the week. when I have a day off, I'm sure Molly would love it." Caitlin said on the phone as she spoke to JAmes, she liked him but held herself in check and going on to many dates was not a good thing.
"Molly settle down, Ok tomorrow morning at zero-nine-thrity we meet at the precinct and get it all handled. Then the next day we can head to Santa Monica, where we went it's close." Molly kept giggling and saying 'Cailin' while they talked about the next day. Gina laughed as it seemed like the phone conversation was getting interesting. "Or even if you like we can figure something out for later in the week too."
"When is zero nine thirty? We need to be there at Nine thirty. That's what the lawyer said... So We'll meet at the precint at Nine thirty right?" Caitlin asked to make sure they were both clear on the subject and that there wouldn't be any problems for either of them. Besides she was starting to get confused. Aqaurium on her day off but santa monica the day after tomorrow. Seemed easy enough but James seemed to have trouble keeping it all straight with an apparently wiggling Molly in his arms.
"Military time, sorry, yeah I'll be there right on time and we'll figure it all out when I don't have the giggler in my ear." Molly was now asking about 'Dinos' on T.V. and she wanted to watch. "Yeah we're clear on what time we are meeting, I'll see you tomorrow then." After he hung up Gina pulled into her place and shut the car off. "I have your skirt all cleaned, so you have another date with our friendly police detective?"
"No. I'll wear my running pants and a nice shirt. I'm not going to be put in jail and it's not a date it's a thank you... both of them are thank you's. I don't need a man to complicate my life any further then neccesary thank you. Besides I'm getting so much closer to finally having the money to getting my business started!" Caitlin said with a happy bright smile despite the charges and the early monring she'd have soon.
"I meant I was returning your skirt, silly." Gina said a grin crossing her faca at Caitlin's defensiveness. "Who says seeing the policeman would complicate it, you two are deffiently 'into' one another." She opened the door and got the pizza and video out of the back seat. "I think its great your so focused on the future and this dream. But, don't be that succuessful lady who wishes she didn't let a wonderful opportunity pass by and later need prozac to be happy.
"I'm not really used to what normal is yet coming from as far out as I am. Let alone anything else. I'll just take i as it comes alright?" Caitlin says getting all the doors and holding them open for Gina, turning on the one and only light in the apartment in the living room she went to her room to change out of her work clothes.
Gina had the plates and everything ready when she got back out, and was sitting cross-legged on the floor. "So, have you given any thought to what you're gonna get his daughter for her birthday? I thought maybe we could go in together for her gift. You know her & him better than I do." she said hitting the play button. She picked up a slice and munched on it thoughtfully as the movie started.
"I really don't think we're that close... besdies when is her birthday? and how do you know about it?" Caitlin asks suspiciously not liking where this was going at all. It had Gina set up written all over it. Caitlin was very happy with her life the way it was. Not to much and enough for her to grab and run if the need be. But Caitlin didn't know if the whole pack came what she could do... she couldn't fight all of them. Even though she had a new half shape and was learning how to control it. She even could resist the first and last day of the moons cycle if she concentrated and or was getting her brains fucked out by Anthony.
"November Twentith, Sweetie he told us last night at the diner." Gina smiled at her. She finished the piece and watched the movie for a little bit before anything else. "Can you honestly tell me there isn't any sort of attraction between you two? Or what did you guys do after I dropped you off last night?" she said looking at Caitlin with a raised eyebrow. Gina knew if she was alone with a guy like James there wouldn't be much talking, just moans.
"God Gina is that all you ever think about men?! But yes... he started getting really tired and I ran out of other things to keep him awake... so we did end up. As much attraction there might be... we aren't suited for each other Gina trust me. Men are trouble period." Caitlin says with a sigh. Of course she only knew the pack Joe and James. Gina always presumed the worst... the only problem was lately that was what kept ending up happening.
"I'm like most girls hoping on finding the right one, you can't tell me that the idea of a stable minded, job having, and attractive guy isn't appealing." Her parents would have fallen over in relief if Gina brought home a policeman to meet the parents. "Ok, last question for the night other than if you need a ride in the morning. Would Joe approve of James and you being together?" she took a sip of her soda and waited. Ironicly, she tilted her head and showed her neck, just like a member of the pack would do talking to any alpha.
"No... I want to own my own bar and kep myself safe from the things in my past I hope never come back. Joe would like James. But he would not approve of James and I being together. IT's too much of a difference between James and I for there to ever be complete trust and truthfulness." Caitlin said before leaning down and kissing Ginas forehead, giving her her blessing and grinning ruefully at her friend before chowing down on the pizza.
"Ok, I lied, then how are you gonna keep being around him given all your history? I mean a one night stand is one thing, you two went to thst well three times." Gina smiled at her blessing before pulling a pepperoni off and offering it to her friend. "My grandma always said that if you give a friend a pepperoni, it's a lasting one." she giggled again. She envied Caitlin if she could have sex with someone like James three times and just decide not to anymore.
"A lasting pepperoni?"Caitlin asked confused by what Gina was saying. Keeping him around... they would be friends that was all... Caitlin couldn't endanger Molly or James by bringing them into her world. Speaking of which she hadn't heard from Anthony Not since she had gone to the police station the night before. "I can be friends with him Gina... it's not always about sex sometimes it's just about finding someone who understand and can be there with you." Caitlin says remembering the fond days of the pack when it was tranquil.
"That's how my mom described marriage....." Gina said raising an eyebrow. "And leave my grandma's wacky sayings alone, she was a sweet little old lady." She waved the pepperoni in front of Caitlin again, and wondered if she maybe pushed the whole attraction to James thing a little far. She wanted Caitlin to be happy and she saw that she enjoyed being around James. The first movie was coming to an end, Gina turned around, "Ready for the second one?"
Caitlin took the pepperoni and ate it. Put in the next one." She nodded before snuggling into the blanket on the couch and laying her head on the cushions there. She didn't mind if Gina took her bed. It still smelled like James anyways. She needed to rest to work tomorrow morning. She had a lot to do and if she wanted to get it all finished and be ready for work the next day then she needed to sleep and rest.
The next morning Gina was still buried under covers when Caitlin's alarm went off. "WHAT the HeCk!" she declared trying to hide from the annoying noise. How could Caitlin get up so early every morning and still be fine at such a late time to be at the club? She had slipped everything off and borrowed a shirt to sleep in, before crawling under the covers and zonking out. Caitlin was snoozing on the couch out with the pizza, and she needed to go get processed at the police station today. That and see James and his little girl too, all in all a busy day for her friend.
Caitlin yawned and got up grabbing a slice of pizza she turned off the alarm and went into her rooms to change for her morning job. Once in the little dress uniform she had the apron over her shoulder and brushed her hair. She had a bag with extra clothes in it thank goodness Hank wasn't open again tonight. Otherwise she really would be tired.
Gina turned and saw her change, "God, maybe I should run everywhere maybe get a tight body like yours." She sat up and pulled off the shirt and grabbed her clothes and started to dress. Gina had tried to encourage Caitlin to go to Victorias with her to pick out some different underthings, but she thought them too expensive. She grabbed her purse and pulled out her brush and went to work on her hair. "So, do you need a ride to meet James and Molly?" she asked walking back out to get her shoes.
"mmm I guess it wouldn't hurt. Gives me time to make coffee anyways." Caitlin said with a smile afer brushing her teeth and hair. Deoderant and dress was on. It looked like a little navy blue polk dotted dress, with a flared skirt but other then that pretty normal. HEr apron and putting her hair up would change that but for now she left ehr hair down. Going to the kitchen and grinding the beans and putting them in the coffee maker she smiles softly. She'd dreamt she was running and playing by the ocean. She wondered if she would ever be allowed to do that by Anthony.
After the coffee Gina drove them to the precint where James told her to meet them. And sure enough James and Molly were waiting by his Escalade talking with Officer Yun and his partner. "Cailin!" Molly yelled and struggling to get to her. James smiled and told Yun they'd talk later and began walking to her. Gina from the drivers side asked, "You want me to wait or you gonna ride him...I mean get a ride from him to work?"
"Ha...HA... Funny. No I'm gonna run it isn't that far from here and I've got my jogging shoes in my bag. Thanks for the ride and sorry about waking you up so early." Caitlin said before closing the door. She smiled at Molly messing up her name again. "Hey Molly!" She waved happily, she wasn't a very short skirt it just was above her knees so she still had to be careful. But it was the best peice of clothing she owned for something like this so she was sort of stuck with it.
"Good morning, ready to get your processing over and done with?" he greeted her with a smile. He and Molly were in blue jeans and casual shirts, her hair done up in pigtails. "Hi, Cailin." "I convinced a friend to put you in a interview room instead of lockup until the attorney shows." he told her as they headed inside. The desk officer buzzed them through and he stopped long enough to hand Molly over to Mike. "Cailin and dada going bye?" she asked quizzically.
"Oh you shouldn't have to worry about that he said seven o'clock and it's two till. So he'll be here in two minutes. Hey Mike hows your wife?" Caitlin asked smiling politely and giving Molly a raspberry on the cheek. "No where far sweetheart." She promised tickling the little girl under her chin lightly. When Anthony told her to show up on time... well it meant to show up on time. He'd 'punished' her for that once before, and as nice as that was she had learned the lesson. People would be where he told them to be and when he told them to be.
Mike smiled and took Molly, "She's good thanks for keeping an eye on him the other night." Randle frowned deeply seeing James was escorting Caitlin through processing, unfortunatly with the suspension he could have no contact with the detective. James took her into the interview room and shortly after Mike brought Molly inside who wanted Caitlin immediately and he handed a letter to James. "Your attorney is still in court, fight over what is going to happen with the charges. James that is an order for re-cert on the gun range, Randle told IA that you missed and doubts your ability."
"He didn't miss... The killer was just wearing some type of body armor." Caitlin said lifting Molly onto her lap. "I was justified in my actions. I felt threatened and reacted to the threat, I thought he ould make me lose my job or try to put me in the hospital for being crazy. I frankly would like to press charges for sexual harrassment with words... That man has creep written all over him and I trust my senses better Then I trust a man jusdt because he says he's a cop means that he's a good man." Caitlin said knowing the room was being recorded just in case, they always did didn't they... and Randle was the kind of guy who would order such things. HE was such a slimeball and Caitlin had been around her fair share of those.
James smiled at her round about compliment, he knew the shots were center mass and Randle was just being an ass. Molly grabbed ahold of Caitlin's hands and remained quiet, daddy and uncle Mike were talking to Caitlin. "Cweep?" she asked unsure what the word meant, but daddy smiled so she knew it must be an ok word. Mike snickered and looked at James who just shook his head. "So, any word from the courthouse about how long she'll be forced to wait here?"
"Anthony said he would send one of his best and I would be able to go to work on time so I have another hour I can stay and not worry about." Caitlin said playing with Molly's fingers in her own. "A creep is a man like Mr. Randle who sounds angry all the time and says things to women they don't like, and is always running his mouth but never showing whether or not he can do what other people he is making them do." Caitlin tells Molly with a soft smile. BEst to warn the young girl early about creeps. Besides a demon could never be hurt by bullets unless they were blessed somehow according to Anthony. Which is why she was carrying a vial of holy water with her all the time now. The demon would know she was involved after she flashed her scent in the bar... unless it was dumb... and it didn't really strike her as stupid.
Mike chuckled a little bit, "Right now you are considered in custody, it requires you to be here until transferred to the court house or bail to be posted." James sat and tied Molly's shoe, "If it takes too long I'll drop you off and explain things to your boss so you don't get into trouble." Molly looked up and smiled, "Dada make all better, we play?" then she laid her head against Caitlin and looked at the ceiling. "Well, I have to get back to my desk, and will inform you the minute the attorney arrives with the release papers." Mike stood and head out the door.
"Anthony said it should be taken care of so I can get to work on time. I beleive him. Besides I don't mind the run. I'll just tell them I slept in or something. Or had to wash my clothes." Caitlin said before picking up Molly's arms and clapping her hands, sometimes missing on purpose. "Yeap, Daddy makes everything better." Caitlin assures the little girl, smiling at the game they were playing making James had to work extra hard to protect Molly now.
Some time passed and Molly fell asleep on Caitlin's lap holding her hands. "Do you want me to take her?" James asked quietly a hint of a smile that his little girl felt safe with her. A small commotion caught his attention outside the door. Caitlin could hear Mike talking with Randle, "James deserves to know that we have a fingerprint match on the perp." Randle retorted, "He is on SUSPENSION, and not allowed anywhere near this case, if you bring him up to date I will see you both up on charges."
"No she's not heavy at all. I don't mind. But it seems Mike has some news on the case. Randle having a fit. That man seriously needs the rod pulled out of his ass." Caitlin scowled before holding Molly more protectively the angrier Randle's voices got. But how they got a fingerprint was interesting... Caitlin wondered if it looked human like the Demon's guise looked.
"Let me go see what's going on, I'll be right back." James said before getting up. He left the room and Molly snuggled closer to Caitlin and smiled, she could hear James tell everything to get Mike and Randle to let the subject drop. ANother voice came up to the assembled group, "Good morning gentleman my name is Laura Messing, I work for Anthony Antonocci and have a court ordered release for your prisoner & supeenas for several officers." Randle cursed and she could hear papers being handed out, and a suitcase being closed. The interview room door opened and a raven haired attorney in a sharp suit entered with James following behind her.
Caitlin smiled but then had to stop and act as if she couldn't hear through the supposed soundproof door. She looked up quizzically, "James is everything alright?" She asked holding Molly gently and close. Just in case Randle came in. She seriously did not like that man. "Who's this?" She asked softly, still not wanting to wake up Molly. Acting innocent of the fact she heard everything. She needed to stay human...as human esque as possible anyways.
The lawyer loked quizzically at Caitlin holding the sleeping child. "I am Laura Messing, I apologize for the lateness of my arrival. I was held up in court, but you are free on bond until a formal inquirey and witness statement can be taken." James smiled and waved the supenoa to show he'd been served. He added, "So, I can take her and you can go, or I can drive you to the diner. I'd prefer the latter."
"No I need to run, been sitting too long. It's very nice to meet you miss Messing. Thank you very much for doing all of this." Caitlin said before handing Molly to James carefully so Molly was still asleep. "I'd like to talk to Miss Messing outside as well... before she leaves or I do anyways." Caitlin said with a flashed smile at Laura. Cait wondered if she knew she was a werewolf or not. But she wanted to know what all that meant and what she had to do to get this all over with.
Molly woke up a little, trying to hold onto Caitlin, "N-no Wan Cail-lin." Then she nodded back asleep in her fathers arms, he nodded and left them alone in the interview room. Laura closed the door and folded her arms across her stomach. "Very well Miss Denision, What can I do for you exactly?" she asked. The delay in court had put her a little behind, she had a negotiation in forty minutes back in the office.
"What does it all mean and what will I have to do when?" Caitlin asked not shy at all about her lack of knowledge on this subject. She just wanted to know. Besides that she didn't know when Hank was going to be allowed to open back up again and she'd be busy with her two jobs and dates soon. Of course if she could save for just a month more maybe then she could finally buy the building she was going to turn into her cafe/bar. But that was later this was now, and now she needed this information.
"We will get depostitions from everyone served papers, then wait for the day in court. Anthony will contact you about the date that we will have to appear, we will work around your schedule but look for it to be during the day. I understand the Leiutant was the rather nasty customer, shall we treat him as a hostile witness?" She smiled at Caitlin and opened the door to walk her out past the police. When they walked out of the building she saw James and Molly pulling out followed by the social worker again.
"You can... in fact I'd say you can probably call him... almost feverish with the need to fire Detective James and take Molly away from her father. I felt threatened and insulted and it was a crime scene with people around. I feel fully justified that my little punch from a little woman like me didn't hurt him, just his pride and the fact that he is going this far over something inconsequential instead of murderers and theives means he should be fired and replaced with someone a little less interested in appearing good and being bad and someone who will get the job done instead of yelling at everyone in the office all the time. I would charge him with something but I don't know if I can... He called me a hooker a slut Detective Jame's fuck toy, all the while I was checking on the injured girl and Jame's had been injured with a concussion! Tell me that's what a policeman is supposed to do!" Vented Caitlin even as they left the building and seeing the car leaving just made her angrier. "HE has no right to interfere with Jame's personal life. No right to Take Molly away from the only person who loves her in this whole world as much as her father does." Caitlin says growling in her anger accidently and not actually noticing.
"We are looking into who called Family Services on your friend, until we get concrete answers we can't block the social worker. I will handle everything with the depositions personally, the other question is when are you available to give your interview?" Laura noted the social worker's car and grinned, "Anthony said you've already met her, I would suggest if you are seeing Det. Banner then get used to seeing her. At least until I make some headway into the case or accusations against him." She then walked to a BMW parked not far away and opened the driver's door.
"Wait what interview?" Caitlin asked standing confused. Happy once the woman told her she was looking into solving things for James but then something about an interview and she didn't know what it was for and she had asked for a time but was leaving and Caitlin wasn't clear on details about things or used to being left abruptly. It was rude and showed disrespect and Caitlin really needed to run off her agitation.
Laura turned and motioned, "If you care to ride I will explain, but I am in a bit of a rush. You will have to give a deposition for me and for the prosecutor. If you would rather Anthony explain it he said to have you call him." She waited for Caitlin to join her, even as Caitlin's phone rang, Robin was calling again. She also noticed Maike and Randle were leaving with several squad cars no doubt going to what they couldn't tell James.
"I have to take this. Go ahead." Caitlin said waving off the offer of a ride she'd just call anthony later. She had more questions about the demon anyways. "Hello Robin." she said picking up the phone. This was going to be one packed week for her she could just tell. And then next week was the other date with James. She really needed to seperate her time better and orginize her life. Though she had for work to earn as much money as possible.
"Anthony called me in regards to your little interaction with this demon. This is not something you need so close to the full moon, anyway I have a theory on why it ignored you instead going to the girl. If she was pregnant, the extra lifeforce trumped yours thus he wanted more food. But, with James injuring it, a new problem arrives they don't heal as fast and it might have found a new host. So, no matter what watch your back." her tone was worried for the young woman.
"Robin wait what do you mean a new host?! I know there's only two days left but... what am I supposed to do let it run around eating all the girls who live around my area? I have some holy water with me and I remember some scripture. Besides I'm getting the hang of the between form... And Dammit why does Anthony alway tattle to you about everything!" Caitlin asks frowning and gripping the cellphone tightly, she was pouting and refrained from stomping her foot but she did start to jog, or she would be late to work.
"Some demons don't have real forms they possess humans, and Anthony's team will handle looking for it. And I have known him for a very long time, that is why he keeps me informed." her tone wasn't angry parent, but amused. "I am worried for you, mainly because if I passed the situation on to Joe, he'd be here by nightfall armed to the teeth. So, I figured you would rather deal with me and Anthony." Robin knew that Joe would panic and try taking Caitlin back to Colorado with him.
"Well his team needs to hurry up! And please don't tell Joe... he worries so much already..." Caitlin said with real begging tone in her voice. She didn't want Joe worrying to much and freaking out or anything. she was slightly faster then a jog but not running yet and she hoped the demon didn't search her out while she was gone for three days. who knew the havoc it would create... looking for her and possibly James.
"I won't tell him, but you need to be careful until we lock you into the facility." Anthony had arrainged for a better facility buried under a warehouse, only she, Anthony and Robin knew the entry codes. And it was built like a bank vault, and once inside it could not be opened until dawn the next day. Robin could monitor what was going on inside, Anthony could do the same. He even joked that the last time they fucked he filmed it as vampire on werewolf sex.
Caitlin had laughed but he was probably right. Knowing him he probably did have it somewhere. Anyways the first day ws officially safe. She could stop herself from changing or completely control herself during the change but only from human form to wolf form. She'd been practicing a lot when she locked herself in. "Why is it that I call you my aunt and I start thinking that way then you say things like that and I recall the picture Tony has on his desk of you in cammando gear out spook hunting? Then telling me your going to lock me away?" Caitlin asked as she ran to the little dinner still. IT was a good twenty minutes by car ten by run, but she liked to cool down and refresh her hair before she got in. IT had grown a lot and she was debating cutting it short again.
"He still has that? Gods child that was from when I was barely thirty! It was another lifetime ago." Robin said laughing. The diner was in full swing when she arrived. Jenny smiled at her as she was setting down orders on three tables. "I'm covering for Janie today, I hope you don't mind working with me." She moved quickly over to set the bill down on another table and thank them for coming.
"Yes well... maybe one of these days I'll be allowed out on the first or third night huh? Anyways I'm at the dinner and I gotta go. Take Care Aunt Robin." Caitlin said before hanging up and putting on her apron. She put her hair in a quick little bun and went over clocking in. "Nonesense Jenny I love working with you. I cover enough for you it's about time we worked side to side." Caitlin smiled gently even while she pulled out her pencil and pad and got to work right away.
Jenny was a couple inches shorter than Caitlin and a bit heavier, being a waitress helped keep her fit. Her son Logan was a bundle of energy and loved giving Caitlin kisses when she'd hug her. The grandparents would keep him when there wasn't a stable guy in her life. Today they brought him into the diner for lunch. Jenny got close and whispered with a smile, "My son, your boyfriend is here, care to take their order?"
"I don't mind a bit!" Caitlin said walking over to the table and smiling brightly at the family. "Hi everyone! It's been a while hasn't it? Do you all know what you want to eat?" Caitlin asked smiling at them, Jenny had the perfect family... something Caitlin might have had... if she had never been turned. But now Caitlin just liked watching them. Living in her own world and being glad she was injuring or hurting any of them.
Logan reached up, "Caitlin." his blue eyes twinkling at her. His grandmother smiled she had talked with Caitlin everytime they crossed paths at the diner. "He was excited to hear we were bringing him to see mommy for lunch." They made an order of sandwhich for them and chicken fingers for Logan. Jenny smiled and passed by ruffling her baby boy's hair and kissing his cheek, before moving to get another tables order.
"Hey Logan you being good for your mommy?" Caitlin asks looking around secretively. She had their orders all written down and she was playing with Logan a little now. It wasn't very busy at the moment but she did need to hurry a little. Since they already had their drinks though she wasn't too worried about it. She was a quick hand at writing and soothing people's nerves. Caitlin had an unfair advantage at the moment of knowing everyone's moods right now though. Her nose was doing more and more of the work and her hearing just got sharper the closer it became to the moon's full cycle.
Logan as always wrapped his arms about Caitlin and kissed her cheek. "Yes, I'm good for mommy." he said smiling at her. Jenny always said her four year old was very bright, he could count to twenty. And he also had completed potty training and was working on writing his name. Mark back in the kitchen laughed and called out, "So, Caity you like'em young huh?" Several of the regulars laughed, Logan had kind of grown up here and several asked Jeny how he was.
Caitlin hugged him back and handed him a little peice of candy. "Save it for later kiddo! I'll go get your food. MArky why do you think I keep turning your advances. An old man like you could never keep me around for long." Caitlin called back before ruffling Logan's hair a little and putting the order in before going to the next table. She had a whole shift to work and what with HAnk's place not being open she was going to be a little short on cash and not be able to save up to much.
Hours later her cell phone rang, Anthony's number was the caller ID. Charlie looked up and smiled at her, "Go on and take your break early, hun. Might be important, like that young guy you were in here with the other night." Jen smiled again and comented about him being really good looking and seemed very interested in Caitlin. Mark in turn scoffed and said, "What my Caity needs is a guy who can cook for those hollow legs!"
Walking outside and leaning against the building Caitlin opened her phone and pressed accept. "Hi Anthony, what's up?" She asked wondering if she had done something wrong or if Robin had tattled or something. Maybe it was because she didn't know the legal stuff and had asked so man questions. She hoped it was about the demon though, it had her scent and she didn't want to endanger anyone else with that thing loose. The fact it could take over a host was just creepy.
"Well, where exactly should I begin with my news? First, your charges are going to be dropped, but your policeman's suspension will be two weeks and he is right know poking around behind the house of fog. As for his other problems, a woman named Brenda Holmes is behind the original claim, now they are gonna continue until they are finished. My men have found out the demon has gained a new host the old one had been discovered by the police with two holes from your policeman. We are hunting the new host and once we find it, the priest will exorcise it." The long pause meant he was either done or waiting for her questions.
"Brenda?! hhhmmmm....Do they need help tracking it. My nose is getting sharper the closer to the cycle we get. Great about the charges... but the woman you sent said I'd have to do some stuff and I didn't understand a word of it. Is there much I have to do? I have what two days left?" Caitlin said in reply, she was worried about the demon eating more people, but if she could help she would. With the charges being dismissed she thought she didn't have to anything.
"You are two days from the first night, so if I use you it will only be until those nights. Firstly, keep the cop from poking into it, the police are going to call the case closed. That leaves my hunters time to find the demon and arrange the most suitible trap to capture it. As far as your charges, the police department spoke with a couple people there that backed your story and they dropped them. As far as deposition to help overturn the cop's suspension? That is up to you to help him or let him be."
"Okay... but I really don't want to do this. I need to save up just a little more before things really start. I will help him... he's been kind to me, and he is a good man. Thank you Anthony for always getting what I need done." Caitlin said after all it was always good to stay on the good side of a very rich vampire who knew lots of hunters of such creatures as herself. She was going to call James... she had an idea of how to keep him busy for a day at least, possibly two.
"Well, good evening." James said picking up the phone, she could tell by the sounds around him he was in the alley. "I heard that the deptartment refused to persue the charges against you, must be a good lawyer you got. Gave us a chuckle to find out that Randle doesn't get his way everytime, the pompus asshole." He quit doing whatever it was to talk to her and he sounded generally happy to hear from her so soon. "So, what is the occasion, not that talking to you needs one." he said trying to figure out what she was calling now for.
"WEll... I was just thinking since I know have half of my days open... Perhaps Molly would like to go to the park and play? I know she doesn't really have a lot of female's in her life and I'd at least like to be a friend. Besides... I asked my lawyer to help you too." Caitlin said glad he had stopped snooping for now and was focusing on talking to her. "And maybe after that we can all three go out to eat... get some seafood or something." She suggests, not wanting to lead him on... but it was the only way she could think of to keep him away from the sight and out of Danger from the demon.
James almost dropped his phone, "Um, yeah, I think she'd like that alot. And lunch just the three of us sounds like a lot of fun too, I appreciate the offer, but isn't your lawyer a bit expensive? I don't want you spending your money you've got set aside for your cafe bar." He realized the longer he was on the phone the less attention he was paying to his surroundings. But, these offers were enough to make his mind fuzzy and smile thinking how much Molly liked being around Caitlin.
"It's alright it's an old friend of my Aunt's who owed her a favor. It's not a problem. My aunt worries about me so it's not really a problem. Alright so... I'll meet you at the fountain in the park? Around three so I have time to change and run over from work?" Caitlin asked, She heard him fumble with the phone a little and the more the social worker saw a good female influence in Molly's life the faster she would leave. She did not like this woman with her papers and notes, in fact she felt felt a little threatened for Molly when the woman was around. "You'll have to pick the resturant though... I don't eat out... um... ever actually." Caitlin said not counting the few times she had dined with Anthony and the resturant she worked at.
"No problem how about we go to Fish Grill?" he offered locating the spot he fired from. The mention of the fountain made him smiled broadly, that spot evoked memories of them together. "I appreciate that your Aunt's friend is willing to help us out. I will tell Molly when I start fighting to get her to go to bed. So you are a godsend for me tonight, its great you wanna spend a little time with us." he told her standing where the punch happened.
"Not a problem... I was actually wondering if you wanted to go... NEvermind that's silly of me. You're probably very busy and I shouldn't impose." Caitlin said knowing he would take the bait, hook, line and sinker. While she didn't want to lead him on she did want him to know she was okay with being friends. Friends was okay besides once her business got underway... then things would get really busy and she wouldn't have much time for anything.
"Go?" he asked, curiosity peaked and he hated that he quit paying attention to what he was doing. "Go where, in truth I may not be able to get a sitter, unless you'd like to come over and watch a movie with me." He looked about trying to figure how a single punch could knock him back that far. And given the fact of where they were when the shots hit him, how did he keep moving? "I can pick you up and even let you take my bed if you'd wanna stay over, or get you a cab back to your place." he offered.
"WEll... I was thinking of taking Molly to the beach for a later afternoon early night walk along to beach. I've been here for a few months but... I haven't actually been beside the beach yet... So... I thought maybe the three of us could meet up tonight. I've got work early tomorrow at the diner so... I can't stay out really late because Hank is wanting to open the house of fog as soon as he can. So... If you want..." Caitlin let the question hang between them. She really did like James... as a friend and occasional partner. But she needed him out of Danger right now.
"Ok, where should we meet you? or pick you up at?" he asked thinking how nice it would be to watch them have fun at the beach. His mind was trying to work in two different directions and the work was losing out to his interest in Caitlin. "I will afore warn you walks with Molly turn into meandering along look at twenty different things all at once. But, its always fun watching her little mind at work, sounds great maybe even light a small fire." With a single resigned sigh he gave up, the perp must have been on PCP or meth or something of that nature.
"You know the beaches better then I do... so pick me up after you get Molly. That'll give me time to get to my house and change. IT's so warm here... it reminds me of Utah." Caitlin said with a smile, she was just going to wear some shorts and a t-shirt. She wouldn't be cold... and she would probably be running aorund with Molly. So her tennis shoes would work with some ankle socks. "I'll see you soon then right?" She asked before he could question her comment on Utah. That had been a slip-up. A big one. But hopefully he would be too distracted to think to much about it.
"Alright, but I would bring a coat along, you'll be near the water." he closed the phone and headed to the car. Molly would be thrilled that she was going to see Caitlin tonight and tomorrow as well. James had to admit it would be fun seeing her as well. Around six she heard the Escalade pull up out front, James had remebered pretty well how to get back to her place. Molly was in her seat looking around with wide eyed interest about this new place.
A thump was heard and the the door to her apartment opened. Since she was on the second floor and all. "Hey!" She smiled waving. She'd braided her hair and was wearing a T-shirt with some band or something on it and her shorts and her running shoes. She walked around the car and got in the drivers side. "Hi Molly! Hi James." She says in greating smiling real big for Molly and smiling softly at James. She didn't own a coat... until winter hit she didn't see the need to have to buy one yet.
Molly was surprised to see Caitlin got in the back with her, "CAILIN!" she cried back with a big smile. JAmes up front felt like the ladies driver for the evening, but put the car in drive and headed for the beach. The drive really did not take too long, more than enough time for Molly to regale Caitlin all about her day. James had to smile, his little girl, like himself took a shine to the mysterious young lady. "Don't you have a jacket Caitlin? I was serious it can get a little chilly at the beach at night."
"No I'll be fine. I'm hot blooded. Is that right Molly? Oh my gosh then what happened!?" Caitlin asked the little girl. keeping her distracted until JAmes could get her out of the seat because Caitlin was clueless about it. But once James opened his car door and she smelled the sea, she closed her eyes and inhaled deeply. Looking out the front of the window she could see her eyes had gone Amber. She blinked once and they were back to normal. Other then her first day to California she hadn't smelled the sea.
After extacting Molly from her 'five point, racing harness' and coming around to the driver's side Molly wanted down. She ran forward and held up her hand for Caitlin with another big smile, her blonde pigtails bouncing. "We swim?" she asked looking back at her father, as if to ask where her suit was. The beach was pretty much deserted and they went down where the rocks would keep them clear of some of the colder wind. James set out a blanket and set out some firewood he brought with them, "If you two want go on ahead and I'll get the fire lit."
Caitlin took Molly's hand and after getting the girl in her suit and taking off her own shoes and socks she took Molly in a few feet. Caitlin wasn't short and wearing shorts gave her almost three feet without having to worry about getting her shorts wet. And it was deep enough Molly couldn't touch and Caitlin could keep as eye on her. She didn't feel the cold but for the water at all. Another day before the full moon cycle. She was running at just about a hundred degree's. Tomorrow would be the same she'd work at the diner and go out with Molly and James then she'd be gone for three days.
Molly squealed and began playing with Caitlin running away from the incoming waves and chasing them back out. James looked on and smiled as he laid out the firewood. Caitlin noticed Molly was bending over and picking up something out of the sand. "Hwere Cailin, for you." she said placing a seashell into her hand and smiling at her. Then she took Caitlin's hand and began to walk along with her.
Caitlin smiled and looked at the shell taking Molly's hand and walking along the beach with her. She felt calm... all her worries had been pushed back like the waves kept pushing back. Suddenly she wanted to run... and not in human form. Her eyes went Amber again and breathed slow and deep still holding Molly's hand gently. She curbed the urge because there was Molly to protect, but it was there. After a little while Caitlin noticed Molly shiver a little "Okay back to Daddy and the warm fire. I'll race you!" Caitlin challanged the little girl. Caitlin ran a few steps to get Molly going before doing a slow jog behind the little girl and chaning her eyes back yet again.
Molly came running in her awkward two year old gait & Caitlin right behind back to James who had a towel and blankets waiting. He scooped her up and dried her off before putting her clothes back on, then wrapping her into the blanket. "I thank you for tiring her out tonight." he smiled as MOlly reached back out to Caitlin. The fire was going well and the area around it was warm and very inviting. "I have some marshmellows we can roast, care for one?"
"No thanks... Sugar doesn't agree with me very well." Caitlin smiled sitting on the blanket and looking out at the sea. "I should come out here more often... it's very peaceful... relaxing..." Caitlin smiled brightly at James. Not worrying at all about having tired Molly out. Caitlin right about now had energy for three or four people. So she wasn't even out of breath dealing with a bundle of energy. Sitting with Molly on her lap Caitlin was just sitting there feeling at peace for once.
James gave Molly a masrhmellow and she ate it before settling nin and falling asleep against Caitlin. James looked over and smiled, "guess I don't have to tell her about the park tomorrow." He poped the marsh, ellow in his mouth and scooted a little closer to her. "I'm glad you called, I was glad you found a spot you like. Does it look like the spot you told me you dreamed about?"
"A little only there was this really tall jagged rock out in the water a goodways, with a bunch of smaller ones all around her. So it created a shadow during the full moon." Caitlin said looking out over the ocean and pointing out the rock shape and where it would be in accordance to the beach. " When I have more time... someday I'll run this beach until I find that place..." Caitlin said looking up at the moon getting ready to be full. She was worried they wouldn't catch the demon in time.
"That's a long run considering, so how long did you live in Utah?" he asked casually. On her lap Molly nuzzled closer to Caitlin's warmth and slept soundly. Her arms warmed as far around Caitlin as the could, James marvelled how quickly his baby took to her. "I mean if it is a uncomfortable subject, I don't really have a problem dropping it. I mean your past is just that, I'm more interested in your now and maybe figuring into your future somehow."
"I lived in Utah for about seven or eight years... You already knew I was a runaway... but an old indian man found me and took me in... Joe... I think of him more as my father then any other men and may the spirits keep trouble from finding him. He taught me more then anything or anyone else ever had. I'd never done drugs or drank or anything but Joe really helped me clear up my life... My now... is still complicated. I fear something in my past will come again... and it makes me scared... if we did have a future... and Molly. I wouldn't be able to protect you. But my dreams led me here and the spirits haven't indicated anything else... so I can only follow where their guidence gives me a path." Caitlin said with a gentle shrug not wanting to disturb Molly.
"It's more protecting each other and don't forget I capable of protecting & serving. I know you don't do those other things, and I feel more included because you shared this with me." He took her hand and kissed the back of it. Molly wiggled around and got more comfortable in Caitlin's lap, James smiled at his little girl doing her usual sleep tactic. "She's a mover when she sleeps, on occasion I wake up with her butt against my chest and her sleepsing at a ninety degree angle."
"There are some things no one can protect you from." Caitlin said softly before positioning Molly her head against Cait's breasts, arms tucked in her front to Cait's front and Caitlin held her legs and body close. "ssshhhhh it's alright little one. I've got you. Caity's here." Caitlin assured the girl before rocking lightly. She spoke in whispering tones to the two year old to help sooth her.
James didn't want to force her to tell him what this was, she would at some point maybe. Molly cuddled up to Caitlin's warmth and sighed quietly, peacfully dreaming to the sound of the surf and Caitlin's heartbeat. James and Caitlin sat for a long while watching the fire until it burned low. "Alright, I think its late enough, how about I either drop you off or if you'd want." He left the end off, hoping she'd say yes to staying with them.
"That would be really nice James. I'd love a ride home and I'm sure Molly is tired enough she won't even notice getting put in that seat for her." Caitlin smiled brightly, not wanting to lead James any further on then before. "Can you promise me something James? That you won't look around in the investigation? That you'll stay home with Molly? Accept for tomorrow afternoon and then five days from now." Caitlin amended quickly, she wanted James safe and if that demon followed his scent while James was running around and she was in lock down... She would never forgive herself.
He doused the fire and the three of them headed back to the car carrying Molly to her car seat. After shutting the car door he got closer to Caitlin, "You want me to stay home with Molly except tomorrow with you and then the next five days. I can't hide from everything, I'm a cop and its my job, but I will this once." James leaned forward and kissed her deeply pressing her against the car. When he broke the kiss he couldn't help but ask, "Stay with us tonight, I'll sleep on the couch, I just think it'd be nice to have someone there."
Caitlin had her eyes closed and controlled her breathing she already felt herself reacting to James again... and she refused to let her eyes give her away. "James... If I stay... We won't be just friends and I don't want to hurt you. You or Molly. I can't... have a normal life like you. I can't stay around all the time... I'm not like other women." Caitlin said trying to express how bad it would be for him to continue trying to stay with her... or get her to be what he wanted. If he knew what she really was He'd attack her or be terrified and she couldn't handle that.
"Nothing about life is normal and I agree you aren't like other women, and that makes you appealing all the more." Whatever was making her believe that this wasn't really a good thing just started to make him want to prove it wasn't that bad. Molly was happy around her and the way she talked about and interacted with Molly, he knew she couldn't be dangerous. "I don't want to push you into anything, but I don't want to regret not seeing you." James kissed her again and reluctantly let her go, if she was adamant about only being friends then there was little he could do.
"I'm sorry James... Bad things happen around me and I just want to keep you both safe. I would never be able to commit to you full time... I would always have secrets JAmes... I know you couldn't live with that. But as friends and occasional sexual partners... Things can stay simple and... safe." Caitlin sighed at the last word. There were demons in the city, what else was there? Other wolves? If Marcus ever came around there would be even more trouble. But that was later concerns. "I just know you've been hurt and I don't want to hurt you like she did." Caitlin says softly seat buckling herself in.
"There wasn't a choice, Sandra when she died almost killed me. But, without being together I wouldn't have Molly. We all have secrets, and there are even things I kept from you, we all have secrets." The idea of friends with benefits appealed to him, but Molly needed a woman around. James drove back to Caitlin's apartment, quietly thinking about what she said. He got out and opened her door for her, "Well here you go until tomorrow afternoon." Before giving her one more kiss.
"Until tomorrow." Caitlin smiled softly walking to her door and unlocking it before heading up after relocking it behind her. Once inside her apartment windows and door's locked she called Anthony. She needed to know if they had the Demon yet. If they didn't she couldn't go into containment. They would need her. HEr senses or the attraction of her blood... anything... She couldn't let James and Molly stay a risk. "Pick up Anthony..." She muttered almost angrily.
Anthony's phone went to voicemail, "You have reached the phone of Anthony Antonacci, I am currently unavailable. Please leave your anme, number, and a brief message and I will return it shortly." The phone then beeped for her to leave her message, more than likely it was dinner time or he was out looking for the demon. Shortly after her phone rang, Robin was calling most likely to see what was going on. In the middle of the ring she saw that Anthony left her a text message instead of calling her.
"Hi Robin." Caitlin said putting her on speaker and looking at the text from Anthony. It would be easier this way but she needed to know whether or not the demon had been caught and excorsized or if he was still out there feeding or tracking james or herself. "What's wrong you don't usually call so late." Caitlin said to Robin. She needed information and she wanted that information now. She didn't care of she only knew a few passages of the bible or only had a vial of holy water with her. She would help or she would go after it on her own.
"I wanted to see what is going on, lately you have been a little guarded in conversations. I figured you must have company you can't talk around, so Joe and I have discussed him coming here for Thanksgiving and inviting the new people in your life to meet him. And I wanted to check on the preperations for this cycle and see if you needed anything from me." Anthony's message explained they were chasing a couple leads and they assumed to catch the 'bugger' by tomorrow night at least, exorsising it would be a different matter. And that he would contact her tomorrow about her role if needs be.
"I've been with James... IT was Anthony's idea to keep him away from danger. It's going to be a regular cycle. Gina has been dying to meet Joe though. So I'll bring her along." Caitlin said putting the phone off speaker and to her ear again. "I'm going to be working on more control... I can't wait for Joe to come! I haven't seen him in months!" Caitlin said excitedly, she really did love Joe. In fact she still had the two boxes he had left her with when she first came to California.
"Um, what about James since you brought him up, Joe did ask about any man you might be seeing. I tried to steer the conversation away from that, but you know Joe." Robin really didn't want to tell Caitlin this, not knowing how this was going to play out. Joe wanted the young lady to be happy and find out what the spirits had planned for her. "I hope you aren't mad at me about this, I did try to get him to call you about who might be coming."
"James is a friend I'm trying to keep out of trouble. The first week was an accident. Running into him" Caitlin sighed heavily. "I'll invite him. No it's okay Robin... he would have found out anyways. Joe always get's answers... somehow. The spirits guide him and they always will... I only hope they will guide me as well as they do him." Caitlin said getting out of her work dress. Just in her underwear she was more comfertable. she needed to eat before going to bed and then tomorrow afternoon she had a date after working the early morning shift at the diner.
She was on the beach again, the moon and water making everything glow silver. The sand was rough on her feet and the wind blew the salt smell to her nose, there were more scents around her, mind racing to understand all of them. Not far off above the dunes she saw the pack all watching her, wanting her to retrn to them. The sound of the surf died down enough for her to hear the laughter and she saw the little figures running nearby playing. And further still the fire, with larger adult figures sitting around it, they watched her as well.
Caitlin woke at the normal time to get ready for work, the dream or vision for she had them before was fresh in her mind. The day was a little overcast and honestly looked like rain, possibly forcing a change to their plans. Her phone beeped another text message came across, this one was Tony telling her that tonight they had a trap set and if she wanted she could tag along. Another came in from Hank saying that the club would re-open tomorrow night and he would let everyone know the schedule if they wanted to come back. Somehow the idea that the old saying 'May you live in interesting times' was a forboding omen.
She texted Hank she needed the next four days off but was okay after that. Then texted Tony and told him he was on and where to meet them. The dream still on her mind who were the little ones? Who was by the fire? Why was the pack there? She'd not had dreams of the pack in a long time. She dreaded their appearance in her dreams. She may have to do the aqaurium date today and skip the other date. She needed to work and save more money. But first as she dressed and put her shoes on she called Joe.
On the second ring he picked up, "Hello Caitlin, I figured you would be calling soon." He sounded exactly like she had left only hours ago, and just called to see if she forgot something. Her phone beeped with a message from Hank. She would be on the schedule when she got back in town and ony other info would be sent to Gina. And Anthony sent just a single 'K' back in response to her.
"Hello to you too Joe. I called because Robin said you wanted to have a talk with me about Thanksgiving... The celebratory days after good harvest. That and... I had a dream... different was close to the first one... I don't really understand it." Caitlin said as she finished her shoes and moved on to finding some kind of coat... Gina was always forgeting things at her place. Finding a small jacket she pulled it on while still talking to Joe. "I was going to invite Gina a female friend I've gotten somewhat close to." Caitlin said trying to make Joe voice his wants first. Not make her tell him like a child... or not to go through Robin like he almost always did.
"I thought I might come down to California for Thanksgiving since there isn't much to do up here. And visions change from time to time, they correct us on our course though life. I'm happy you have someone close, but only the one person?" He sat at his table and shifted through his mail, most of it went straight into the small stove nearby. "So, is this Gina the only person you are inviting to have dinner with us?" he asked in his Joe-causual voice.
"I don't know Joe... Robin said you were interested in all my friends. I don't know about the vision though... it had the pack in it and I'm afraid...I mean concerned... it might mean... something unpleasant." Caitlin finished lamely, She was going to make him ask about James even if it took her up to the minute to clock in at work. She was already locking up her place and walking down the steps. She was a little early today so there was no rush she could walk and make it in time.
"It sounds like you are at a cross-roads, more than possible the pack is stil somehow close and the fire is an option. Is it possible you are maintaining a standoffish mentality about something? I drug the information about a certain young man out of Robin. Will James and his little girl be attending dinner as well?" He hadn't meant to be so blunt, the idea of Caitlin finding a person to make her happy had been something they never talked about.
"Only if you want them to be Joe. James is a good friend and he doesn't know it but he's helped me feel a little more at ease in the city. Molly is a wonderfully sweet little girl and James is a good father. But I'm very close to reaching my goal amount with the extra I calculated and within another few months I can get a place and start renovations. Not to mention find a staff." Caitlin said thinking about everything that would need done. She could make all kinds of coffee's and tea's... so she'd just have to work until she could find someone to help her out. a partimer or two to turn into full time workers. and she could bartend as well. But she'd need a cook who could make cakes and things to go with tea and coffee and then a grill cook at night to serve the bar customers. Her mind was filled with the plans for the establishment she wanted to have.
"I think you should invite people who are close to you, I'd like to meet your friends. Remember you told me that the pack would not let you make any connections, I think the vision might be cautioning you not to fall back into old routines." He smiled and was happy that she had some friends and even people who seemed to care about her. Pouring another cup of coffee while they talked, he realized how quiet this house was now that she was gone. Robin had cornered him into Thanksgiving, something neither one would tell Caitlin, but she was right, he missed the little wolf.
"Well then... I suppose I can invite him and his daughter then. I'm actually looking forward to this thanksgiving thing Robin talks about. You and I only celebrated good harvests from the garden. Old routines... Ha not here... I don't think it's possible what with Anthony around and the club and the diner." Caitlin laughs at the last part. She really did miss having Joe's silence and yet steady presence around her and his gentle guiding voice helping her to know what to do. Or instruct her on how to do something new. The only reason she had a television was because of Robin. She never used it much except to watch the news.
"Anthony? the vampire, Robin still has anything to do with him?" Joe asked almost with distaste. Quickly it changed to his normal tone again, "Well I look forward to meeting your other friends. Write down what you remember if you have another vision, I will try to help you more when I arrive in Los Angeles. Now, I'm sure you have things to do and I don't want to keep you." Joe waited for her to finish up by asking any other questions about Thanksgiving.
"Only in helping finding a suitable location after I broke out of Robin's cage. I will Joe... I can't wait to see you again. It's been too long." Caitlin said softly before hanging up the phone and pocketing the small device. Walking into the diner and clocking in. "Morning everyone." She said to the cooks and the other girl working, Cait was just on time for opening having spoken to Joe for so long this morning. She was usually earlier but she had wanted to hear Joe's voice. It calmed her a lot, in fact she felt much better now after having spoken to him.
The diner was busy as always for a couple hours then slacked off, Jenny was oddly silent and Eric the day cook was rather abrupt. Charlie had to go to a doctor's appointment and had left Caitlin in charge. About lunchtime the crowd began to trickle in like always, and Kevin another server showed up to begin his shift. It was just another day there and everything was just like normal there. Gina showed up with a couple friends from her class and got lunch, making sure to sit in Caitlin's area.
Caitlin smiled cheerily the whole day. Keeping order between the cooks and everyone else. Though she was happy. She had spoken to Joe and she was going to get to see James and Molly again today. She was kept busy but she didn't mind one bit about it. She would invite Gina and James and Molly all to Robins thanksgiving. She would do it tonight. After all she had some time a few days to get things done and over with. Such as her changing and her shapeshifting during the full moon and such.
