Moonlight in California
Moonlight: Dreams & Demons pt6
Caitlin arrived at Anthony's office just under ten minutes late, she had made good time from the park. The guard noted her arrival and pointed her to the elevator to go up to Anthony's office. Once the doors opened she could see most of the office had left for the night, only his secretary remained at her desk and gave her a small smile, "He's waiting for you, go right in." Tonight she would help hunt the demon with Foundation and Tony, protect her friends and territory from this invader. Tony was still at his desk when she entered and was on his cell phone, "She just arrived, we will be down in a few moments to begin the briefing."
"I covered my scent to that of innocent. Hopefully it covers my own for a while." Caitlin said softly walking into the office, she was ready to begin this hunt. In fact she let her beast flex a little her eyes turning wolven amber her senses sharpening. This demon threatened her work, her home and her friends. She would not let it get away with that invasion. Caitlin was settled into this territory and she wanted to keep it. She would not let anything get in her way.
Anthony stood up and came around his desk, "The smell will matter little since we plan on cornering this one. I am going to take you down to the foundation, you will stay close and touch nothing that I do not give you leave to touch. This is because there are a many things that are off limits to even those that belong to foundation." He took Caitlin's elbow and led her towards the area she had known his coffin sat. Smiling he thought she might balk at him when the tiny elevator doors opened, it would be 'awfully' cozy in there while the descended.
Caitlin instead leaned against Tony, she hated small spaces, even though her dalliance with Anthony was few and far between she he was basically dead she hated the feeling of being caged more so. "Touch nothing huh you think me a child unable to hold my curiosity in check?" She asked trying to keep her mind off of the smallness of the space she was in. In truth Caitlin rarely touched anything she didn't have to and she was usually very careful with her scent... at least as much as she could be.
As the doors shut and the elevator began to descend he smiled, "Same speech I give everyone the first time they come down here. So, don't be afraid that I don't trust you cause I really do." By the time the elevator opened Caitlin could tell they were at least two to three stories underground. Anthony stepped out and motioned for her to follow him, leading her through a series of hallways to what could only be described as mission control for hunters. A group of men sat far off to the right side, most dressed like members of a SWAT team and if she wasn't sure a priest as well.
"Are they any good against a demon?" Caitlin asked not afraid of being loud, or being heard. She kept her hands at her sides the whole time careful of not touching anything, including the walls or doors. She herself hadn't faught it yet but when it came to strength and speed she'd be the girl to rely on for sure. She wasn't upset by Anthony's words, just teasing him for it. He took himself entirely too serious for the work they did. In the pack Caitlin enjoyed any fights that happened, she still enjoyed fights.
The object is to trap it and let the priest send it back where it belongs, you'll see." A door across the way opened and in the blackness beyond Caitlin heard a voice.
"Dear sweet Robin? Have you returned to see me here wasting away robbed of the chance and time to enjoy life found in every kiss I bestow. Once the man came out and the door closed she could no longer hear that voice anymore, but it was chilling even without seeing its owner. "Alright Caitlin, have a seat and we will begin this briefing then get out there and find our tatooed demon." Anthony said taking a seat before the assembled men.
Caitlin sa obediently, though if anyone else had ordered her to do so she might have stood to simply defy them she had no wish to make it a contest of leadership between herself and Anthony, considering what they were going to be doing anyways. She did fld her arms and glower slightly though, she was long past the days of orders and being a follower. She had been done with those when she had run away from the pack and successfully been away for a few years now.
Anthony wasted no time in showing them information of humans possesed by the demon, a couple of the men clucked and more than one shifted to glance towards the priest. "Our scouts are out and watching, once we get a high sign our visitor will draw him into a predetermined area and we will spring. Once in then the Father will use the chronicles to force it back into the pit and once gone Vargas will move in first to check on the victim. If this turns physical then simply begin containment and stay out of mine, McCoy's and Caitlin's way." In acknowledgemen
t a large set man to Caitlin's left nodded his head and smiled.
Caitlin did not return the smile. She had been listening and viewing the pictures but other then that she had been checking out the men, the big man she might have a problem with. The others she felt she could handle easily. She did not her head t this 'McCoy' though. "Did he switch out of the last body he was in?" Caitlin asked softly to Anthony, she didn't raise her hand and she had been silent and respectful while he had spoken. Caitlin was a very good fighter and after having been trained by the pack a great killer, after being with Joe she knew how to use even her human senses to pick up gaps in her animal ones. She had been honing these every chance she had gotten.
"As far as we know it is still in the newest body and hasn't fed in as many days. Do not be fooled though even in a female body this demon packs one hell of a wallop and as with any demon can take one hell of a punding. McCoy, I hate to say this, but if you can't contain it then you'll have to beat it down despite what may happen to the host." The big man nodded and made a couple notes in a small notebook, "Father won't think little of me if I have to hit a woman will he?" The priest sat silently for a second, "You may do the host a small mercy if you keep the demon from coruppting the sould inside. Needless to say the church will absolve your sins as inevitable, as much as I'd prefer to see the host saved."
"I say take the demon down even if the woman has to go too. I don't know anyone who would want to be saved to let it eat other humans." Caitlin said simplistically, she didn't care about the human dying, they killed each other all the time. You had to be realistic about things. But there was too much talk, Caitlin wanted to stop this demon as soon as possible and this was getting them no-where. She especailly didn't need some preist telling her what she should be doing. She knew what needed done.
Most of the men turned to regard her, it was a shock to hear from a new comer and a woman at that. "If we can the demon goes alone, last resort is taking the host as well, end of dicussion." Anthony said before shutting down the screen. The other members of the team got up and headed off down another corridor the priest being last in that line. Only Anthony, Caitlin and those people working the computers were left in the room. "I'm hoping that you understood what I said, killing because it is easier is what seperates the feral monster from the monster that stays invisible to hunters and normal people."
"I am good at covering my tracks. Even when I have to kill. Sometimes you can't save anyone Anthony, sometimes you shouldn't try." Caitlin said with a shrug she was confident in her own abailities and the knowledge of the dreadful deeds she had done while with her old pack. Here in her new life she hoped she wouldn't have to kill anyone but it seemed trouble followed those it was most familiar with. And was it ever interested in her. She didn't like the tone Tony had used but she and Joe had argued sometimes until they had come to a sluight middle ground. It was the same everywhere. The men tried to tell the women how things were to be done.
"We have rules that have been in place for a great many years, it is all part of the Foundation and if you want I explain it all later. Right now we must catch up with the others and begin our hunt, the other talking will wait until the end." Turning he picked up a jacket and began walking to the ramp where the others went. The hunt would be different with Caitlin along, and who knew if she did well, she might have a job on the team. "Do you have anything against wearing a little bit more of a uniform even considering I like the running shorts, makes your legs look nice.
"As long as it doesn't get in my way I'd wear a fucking tutu." Caitlin said giving Anthony a quick smile, she was well aware Anthony liked his girls with meat on them. As for the rules well she'd only had one rule. Keep what she was a secret from humans. Never be found and never be hunted. Caitlin was only using crass language because she felt things were already taking to long. she needed the scent of the host and she would find the demon. Then she could take it out of the world. Keep Molly and James safe.
