Hunger and the Fall
The hunger is there
Craving more
Driving you further and faster
Disdaining warning and patience
More it cries
Rending the heart to fulfill its want
The hunger drives you ever forward
Caution cries out but is ignored
Mute lips to deaf ears
You can't stop it now
The fall comes ever onward
The ledge in sight
Still the hunger cries out to be sated
Over and down
Cut from the fold
Plunging deeper
Finally the alarm goes up but too late
And still the hunger.

Sometimes we make choices out of our want for more and just can't settle for what we have and cherish it. And then when its gone we see that our hunger for more was what destroyed us.)

This love the Phoenix
Burn it down
Let new life emerge
Find it there in the ashes of old
If it ends the coals will always burn
Ready to take light at the slightest touch
Cast the regret onto the pyre
Burned away like kindling
Now and forever the Phoenix
Ready to take flight again
To burn bright and consume itself

(Have you ever found something that won't die? That simply hangs on throughout your life.)

Tryst
Dark of night
Let the dance begin
Electrified by thought
Set into motion by hand and heart
You find purpose for a moment
Passion takes hold and reservations diminish
New life breathed into the corpse
The door is open and welcomes you
Kisses of ash and bittersweet memory
Past be damned
Mistakes to be made anew
Let this dance end.

Untitled
Here and now I lay bare the truths within my heart
Lips could not stay silent when such emotion takes root
I would not trade our worst day
With the best I have had with any other woman
For even during those days that we did rail against one another
The love that I bore within my breast outshone even the brilliance of Heaven
For I would forsake such a High place
And dwell with you in Hell if need be
Because no torture could the Devil muster
That would equal my torment to live a life bereft of you.

My Time
The sun is setting my time has come
for me to once again walk the moonlit path
No light in sight only darkness abound
as I slip from shadow to shadow in night's dark embrace
To hunt once more
the sweet taste of blood to quench my thirst.

(Hehe! A vampire kind of theme, watching too many vampire movies lately.)

Light to Dark
I've bathed in your light long enough and its time for me to go
To let go and let the darkness inside consume me
Her dark nails rake my skin the pain oh so good
Your love a distant memory only pain is left for me to revel in
This dark nightmare is my sweetest dream as I sleep forever in my dark abyss.

(This poem reflects the pain of lost love and falling into depression.)

Visitor
You cannot see me but I am there
I am the darkness
Caressing your face with shadows
Watching you and holding you in your death-like sleep
As you dream of dark serenity and sweet nightmares

(Though someone is not there in body does not mean they are not there in spirit.)

Torn and Dead Inside
And so he stood with heart in hand
And he could hear their special band
She turned away and crushed his dreams
He tried to think what it would mean
To live a life without her there
So he dropped his heart no more nightmares
And now he lives his life dead inside
Ever since her fateful lie

(Once again the theme of lost love.)

Dark Angel
Dark I am the angel
That fell from on high
Dark I am the angel
That tells such a sweet lie
Dark I am the angel
No more tears do I dry
Dark I am the angel
I do so wish to die
Dark I am that angel
Who scars no longer hide
Dark I am that angel
I can no longer fly

(Just a poem that I thought of.)

On the Wings of a Dove
I loved a girl and she loved me back
But that fateful night made it all lack
Now she hates me and I find no solace
Ne'er do I see her, no more condolence
I still loved her with my broken heart
But I guess I had played my final part
My last thought as my heart decayed
Was 'What would I do today?
If I saw her down that street
And would finally get to greet'
Tender was my heart and eager to love
But I lost it all, it flew away like a Dove

(If I had the chance I would live it all over again but I would show her how much she meant... the world.)

Crimson Path
Walk with me down this path
Of crimson black wrath
I will guide you through this lightless Hell
For I know this place we travel through well
Dark nights of sleepless horror
Lonely days of restless slumber
There is only pain so constantly
For it is my soul we travel you see

The Year goes by
Through countless tears
And this long year
I find myself thinking of you
The joy and pain
My tears fell like rain
Our toils and troubles
But our love was doubled
Then I left and fear gripped me
When I returned it was gone
But I tell you this, my love still lives on

(I hope only that the one this is meant for still feels for me as well. Love is such a beautiful thing, and the loss of it is a crippling blow to the heart. No amount of pain can make me ever hate her.)

Time
Time is a friend when you are so young
But as you get older it is not so friendly
And when you age even more so it becomes an enemy
Something that you flee and fight off
But sooner or later time will catch you
Time will defeat you and you will fall prey to it
All that matters in life is how long you and time are friends
And the journies that you have taken together

(I just thought of what time means to me and decided to write it. What do you think of time?)

Along the path
Along the path and through the wood
Down in the forest were all is good
I met a lass her face aglow
And to this day I do not know
Why she smiled and laughed at me
For I can tell you this I see
I saw her face a beautiful sight
And could not find within my might
To not laugh along and smile as she
And then I found her in my arms with me

(It feels good to be able to write an uplifting piece finally!)

Journey
Come along and fly with me
To a place across the sea
A place were life is good to me
You'll find peace no longing there
And no one will ever gawk and stare
Joy and love to wait for thee
So come along and fly with me

(HAHA! I feel good! It's just coming out of me, I have to write... er type it out!)

Love is true
Fortune fades but love is true
So my friend do not brood
For in thy sorrow you'll find your joy
Your heart is no mere little toy
Life is short but worth the living
And in thy life you'll do your giving
You'll give your heart a million times
And in the end you'll learn to rhyme
Just as I found through my sorrow
And no I'm sorry it cannot be borrowed
So be true to thy heart that beats in thy breast
And in the end you'll find your rest

(Come along down the path that is the twisted walkway of my mind! For some odd reason that poem makes sense to me.)

The stage
Love is a stage for all to play
You'll learn your part in the day
At night's fall its time to act
Or lest you find yourself a lack
She'll whisper sweet lines of love
And she'll float in your mind like a dove
So hold ye not thy sweet dire lips
And lean in for that fatal kiss
The word is pure but the action purer
As love is shown within thy eyes
You look at her she feels the touch
And you dost love her very much
So hold not your idle hand
And reach to touch her upon demand
For fortune wastes no time on fools
I tell you this its the golden rule

(This in no way means a replacement for the real golden rule of course.)

Fate
Fate be gentle
Fate be cruel
Fate be all but the rule
For fate does fall
And was not for all
For fate not be
Fate be fiction

(To me there is no such thing as fate. Fate determines entire lives, I do believe that God has certain parts for us to do but leaves the rest of life up to us.)

The Guardian I am
Bring me your poor
Bring me your weak
I will protect even the meek
I am your Guardian
You lover
Your friend
Never will I abandon you
Forever I will stand
No amount of ill words
Nor actions of malice
Nothing could replace you
Not even a palace
I will always be there
Your constant companion
To protect you forever
No thoughts of abandon

(The theme of steadfast loyalty)

Prayer of Protection
This I ask God of you tonight
Protect my loved ones and all that you might
Forget about me Lord worry about them
I don’t care what happens to me Lord
It’s them and only them
I’ve asked too much of you
But I must ask more
Protect them for me Lord above all and for
For love and for kinship
For happiness and health

(Thought up this one night when my stepmother and father were fighting really bad.)

I’ll be here waiting
Come to me I’ll be here waiting
I’ll be here waiting forever for you
I’ll weather the years without you
I will not hold them dear
The year with you was the best of my life
But now I am filled with strife
It was not your doing it was mine alone
But I’m a better person forever I do atone
I asked for your forgiveness
So I will ask for it again
I do so love you dear one
I did never regret the time we had
I cannot ask for you to come back
I cannot ask for your love
But know this and always my love cannot come undone

Fade
I fade into the background
I fade until I’m gone
I fade into this painting
Of ordinary come undone
I don’t want to fade away
I want to stay with you
So hold me my dear loved one
Before I fade I’m done

God and Me
God did whisper into mine little ear
He told me of the great things
And that fateful year
He told me I would be in love
But did not say that it would last
So I jumped and glad I did
For without you this life wouldn’t have been a blast

Rewind
If I could press the rewind button
I’d do it for it to last
I’d rewind to when we were happy
When we had such a blast
When I laughed and you did too
When we cared for me and you
I’d press that rewind button to make the day last
I’d press the rewind button like it was my last
For a day with you is heaven on earth
And a day with you is filled with mirth
I’d rewind back to the beginning and play it over again with you
I’d change the title and change the script
I’d change the setting and never skip
I’d change the way I acted
I was such a fool
But I wouldn’t change the way I felt for you
That is the one rule

(Everyone wishes that they had a rewind button. Me especially.)

Advice
If there is one thing I can tell you young men
Think before you act it’s not for you but for them
Love with your all and always be true
For to lose that trust is to be the fool
Don’t think about lying
You’ll only end up dying
Her love is more than feelings
It’s a friendship it’s not trying
It’s being there for them when they’re low and they’re down
It’s being there for them when they cry and when they frown

Lost
I was lost
And still not found
When you left
I fell right down
I can’t get up
Without your help
You are my life
Even though it hurt
I forget those days
Of pain and sadness
Replaced by the memories
Of joy and gladness

Night Sky
The stars do shine
I really wish they were mine
Could you own a star
They're not that far
Just reach and out and take one
There you go its done
I can get one for you
All shiny and brand new

(My stab at childish innocence. Don't really know how good I did though :/)

Traveler and God
I am always with you my son
Always there ready to catch you and lift you up when you are your lowest
When your feet stumble and you think you cannot go on
That the journey is too hard
I am always next to you
Your eternal companion on your long walk through life
Remember that I love you and always will

(I love God sooo much. He's helped me through so much adversity in my life. But there is one thing he cannot seem to help me with...)

Short Time
The time we had was short I see
But still I find myself thinking of thee
Thy sweet voice rings true in my ear
And thy beautiful face I do hold dear
Though time and space do keep us apart
My love for you will not fall apart

(romance is the central theme to most of my poetry. I guess I'm a hopeless romantic at heart. Well lets not say hopeless.)

Visage of Beauty
The birds do sing of thy beauty and grace
As it does shine in thy beautiful face
No poet can write what I've known all along
No musician can write a more lovely song
Than the song that comes from thy noble lips
And that sweet song I do so miss

(An older poem that I wrote while I was in Scotland. I also wrote 'Short Time' in Scotland as well while I was sitting in a beautiful garden at the place we were staying at.)

Proposal (Dec 6, 2004)
With the stars as my witness and God himself
I William Edward Holley II
Do pledge my heart, my soul, everything I have and am
To you (Name erased from poem to not offend that certain person)
And ask thee to marry me and be my wife till the end of our days
For the love that we share can only be the miracle God can create

(Ah true love... well it was at the time. I never got to say those words because of a certain something. Four days later my love left me. I regret never getting to speak those words but HEY! What do you do? You pick up the pieces, put yourself back together and try to move on. By the way, I will be changing my name to Donahue here real soon.)

Distance
I find myself in a far away land
But looking forward to holding your hand
My dreams are sweet with thoughts of you
And I hope and pray my dreams will come true
True passion's voice does confide in me
And no one will know except for thee

(A poem I wrote while in England in my hotel room. I was lonely and I was missing my girlfriend. So I wrote this, but never got to give it to her. England was awesome!)

The Dance
Come with me and take my hand
As we dance the night away
The world does not exist as we serenade
For just one day all that remains
Are the feelings of two young lovers
Caught up in each other's arms
We danced this dance
In love's beautiful trance
Ensnared in the eyes of the other
You knew not the dance
But I taught you the steps
With patience and with care
We've been through our trials by fire
But the dance was always there

(A poem written on Valentines day for my girlfriend. A day I will not forget. Such good memories.)

The Future
Can one look ahead and know the future
Can one simply say 'this' will happen
I once thought such a naive notion were possible
But things do not always go as we see
Life takes its mysterious turns
Leaving us without compass or mark
Anxious to find that once sure path
We stumble with no firm ground under our feet
And so with a determined heart
Many blaze a new trail without fear
While others still search for that familiar path
Which will you be

(I was finding it hard to concentrate on anything one night and this came out of that confusion. Still don't know how it came about, but I just started typing.)

A simple Tale?
A new tablet is made
A new story to be told
as a new chapter begins to unfold
Of men and of damsels
Of feats and of follies
New mistakes and new achievements to be made
So sit my good listener
As I tell this tale
A tale of a man
Just a simple man
But no life is just simple
Each a complexity of its own
How rarely we see it in such ways
He's loved and he's lost
He's triumphant and he's failed
But every man does this
What is unique you may say
It is how he has lived
It is how he has dealt with these victories and defeats
How he has lived with loss and with gain
For in every decision a new and unique path is made
Every life is a drama
A romance
A horror
A comedy
For what greater tale can be made
Than that of a man
Just a simple man

(I began to think of what makes a great tale, or epic or story. Then I realized that each life is all of these. Sometimes not as epic or as grand but a story and a tale all its own. Each different.)

The dam breaks
And so it comes
The torrent
The flood
The waters of creation
Crashing through the mind
Tearing asunder old webs and dams
Begging to be released to the world
For what can hold the poet's tongue
Or the artists hand
It is the barriers within their minds
But once those barricades breached nothing can stop the deluge
Springing forth to new lands and new minds
The urge too great to be stopped

(Hahaha, yeah, kind of got caught up in the moment. I've been in writer's block for what seems an eternity and I finally was able to break out of it.)

Armed and dangerous
So come with me
Come brothers and sisters
Bear arms with me
And take up thy sword
Bear forth love and kindness
We are soldiers
Soldiers of God
For in our love no power can stand
We are armed with the mightiest of weapons
And our ally the strongest of all
We are armed and dangerous
Not to the common man
But those that wish to create hate and malice
They wish not the light of love to shine
But the darkness of anger to blanket all
We are armed brothers and sisters
And we are dangerous

(Yeah, this was something that just came forth and I liked it. It reminds those of us that are Christian that hate is not the way to do anything.)

Me?
Me? I am me
Nothing more nothing less
A man
A simple man of faith
But do not listen to my words
They are lies
Look at my actions
They tell the truth
With a smile on my face and sturdy step
I will show you the man I am

(This is in no way saying that I'm a liar. Its saying that you can tell the type of man I am by simply seeing how I live my life. Words can be used to convey many things but actions tell the real truth.)

It's the Fear
It's the fear
The Darkness
The possibilities
The pain that might be
Can it outweigh the chance
Can it make up for the past
It's the fear
That keeps me from moving
That keeps me going forward
But the fear cannot control me
I can't let it
It's the fear

(This poem is basically about the fear of the unknown future and the fear that you may repeat the same mistakes from the past.)

Beyond the Horizon
Its on the horizon
That new and glorious day
Take the leap
Take the chance
See what it has to offer
No more tears
Its just a hard lesson learned
Move through life without regrets
Live life with innocence
Give as much as you can
Its there, just beyond that horizon

(This poem is kind of like a how to live your life poem. Or at least how I think it should be lived and what the future might hold.)

Stay the Course
Stay the Course
And make it true
For this love will make due
I wait in longing
But one day it will bloom
Forever in love
that will be my boon
Though loves wax and wane
And there will come pain
You must stay the course

(Just a little something that came to me the night my girlfriend and I parted ways. It's about trying to stay optimistic in the face of pain and hardship. Though one love may end there is always the possibility of a new one or old one coming around.)

This Night
Stare into the night
Its been brief
But will always remain
Give in to this night
We'll make it last forever
No one can take it away
Can you feel it taking over
There can be no better way
To remember how its been
We say our farewells and part
But never truly leaving one another
In a world beyond controlling
We have this night

(The meaning to this poem is that even though lovers may part there will always remain a piece of that person with you. And though there are things you cannot control you CAN control how you live and love others.)

2005-09-14 [Paladin]: I am the sole creator of these poems. They reflect feelings and outlooks on life, others are just things I thought up.

2005-09-14 [Leebah]: omg...ok. thanks. now im crying. :( but it means a lot to me, still. *sigh* i almost never cry, nowadays. :(

2005-09-15 [Paladin]: I'm sorry I made you cry :( Didn't mean to. :/

2005-09-16 [Leebah]: aww..it's ok. :) dont feel bad. but is it safe to assume that they are about me?

2005-09-16 [Paladin]: Uh, no? Ok, yeah, some are

2005-09-17 [Paladin]: LOL I am very creative this night! *Sigh* It feels so good to be able to write/type happy poetry again. Don't know what brought it about either! ?

2005-09-18 [Paladin]: Seems you are the only one that bothers to read my poetry...

2005-09-24 [Leebah]: "Love is True" is AWESOME! i love it! :) and yeah, i know you, so your poetry i understand, and it helps me know you even more. :)

2005-09-24 [Leebah]: dah. :) *hugs!!*

2005-09-26 [Paladin]: Thanks :)

2005-10-05 [Leebah]: yay!

2005-10-08 [Paladin]: Yay? Yay what? ARGH!! Need more people to read poems. I only have 10 people reading them! And no one has anything to say but good things! I know for a fact my poems are not perfect, certainly there is SOMETHING wrong with one of them maybe. :/ Oh well, I guess I'll just think I'm the best damn poet on Earth! Until someone tells me otherwise ;) HEHEHE

2005-10-08 [Aradon Templar]: Well, I read through all of them. Their size doesn't really matter, as long as the poem says what it wants to. As far as I've seen, all of your poems did make a statement, which is something I liked about them. The lack of punctuation bothered me, though. I didn't like how grim first few pems were, but they did get better. I'm not sure if adding rhyme aided or hurt your poems. In some cases, they flowed well, but I'd reccomend only rhyming if it reads smoothly as well. I liked how each of them had a little blurb after them, though.

2005-10-12 [Zephire]: As always Will, your poems are great! Though some reflect something that I don't think we will ever talk about again...they are still very well done. Kudo's to you!

2008-03-05 [Aura Darklight]: I really liked your poems, they might be short but each makes a statement and have a purpose. I too write poetry and I might post it, but right now I do not know about that. Any way keep up the excellent work and have fun writing.

2008-06-07 [Paladin]: Yeah, I was just a little tired last night. After looking back on those I am somewhat, displeased, with these new poems. But I decided to leave them up since I posted them. I was trying desperately to break my writer's block. It worked though!

2008-06-08 [Leebah]: I like your new stuff! :) Particularly Armed and Dangerous. Very well done, if you dont mind me commenting

2008-06-08 [Paladin]: Of course not, I like it when anyone comments as far as my poetry is concerned.

2008-09-10 [Aura Darklight]: your new stuffis really good

2008-09-11 [Paladin]: Thank you very much. I like it too, not as depressing as some of the older stuff.

2013-04-28 [.Anti-Juliet.]: Beautiful, haunting, they'll stay with me a while I can already tell.
