RoL Test Party

Khanidi is the northernmost province of the region known as the Droia coast. A rich, fertile land that has been kept separated from the squabbles of the great nations of Ki'afisal by the large mountain ranges of Ki'afisal and Asfeltas. Bordered north by the rock formations known as the Fangs and south by the Dah'kin Kingdom of Skarrad, the Droia coastline is composed by over a dozen city states permanently struggling for control and influnce. They are locked in their little world and have become a melting pot of all cultures and races of Lemire. The perfect place for mercenaries and higher swords to make a quick buck and always be sure a small conflict or war will be right around the corner. Here in Droia, there is always someone willing to pay for a skilled mercenary.

Setting 1

As the afternoon falls, activity begins to dwindle in the market streets near the harbour of Khanidi. Being a sailor town, at night it is prowled by both massive numbers of drunk sailors crawling from tavern to tavern as well as some less reputable elements, so many people stay away from the harbour to the more wholesome night life the centre of the city offers. Nevertheless, the shops remain open and the crowds from early in the morning are gone so the party can browse the different stores with ease. However, it would be wise to be done with shopping early, before rowdier customers appear prowling on the streets.

Chese had no intention on spending too much time shopping, though the idea of kicking the asses of the more parasitic members of the society would certainly appeal to her. Since they would need healing potions, she kept an eye out for a store or temple that would sell them. (spot)

Chese could see no temples which were offering their services in the way of potions as such, however, amongst the stalls and shops there seemed to be an apothecary shop, with a small wooden sign dangling on top which read "Khudee's Concoctions". It would surely be a good place to look for a potion or two.

As was ever Az'rim's way, she strolled rather casually into the marketplace, grateful for the setting sun that alleviated her eyes somewhat of her squint. Her cloak was on, her cowl up and she allowed her face to bathe in shadows (so long as she didn't spend too much time facing west, that is). Her diminutive form would likely have been easily lost amongst the bustle of the market but she moved quickly, deftly between bodies that presented obstacles to her, and soon she was close enough to the shops to make a look around. Healing potions could be purchased by Je'retiel, that she knew, since he would likely know prices and quality better than she did. Also, he carried the largest sum of their money, a tactical move on Az'rim's part to keep him from putting too much distance between them. However, on her belt was strapped a loose coin purse and what she had in mind was replenishing her supply of arrows. As a huntress, she was careful and methodical, always prepared to spend days away from the comforts of home in some dark hole waiting for the perfect moment to strike and leave triumphantly. Hunting in the market was no different. There would be vendors to help her and so Az'rim gazed around pointedly, looking for a stand that would be worth her while. (Spot)

Weapons seemed to be the order of business near the docks, given the fact Khanidi and Dophore both waged their small wars with mercenary based armies, blacksmiths made a small fortune supplying independent contractors with weapons and armor. One of such stores seemed rather close and accessible, a smithy and foundry on which an ignean was working, surprisingly enough, with no weapons, simply shaping the fire and molten metal with mystic motions of his hand.

With his drooping posture, Je’retiel slunk through the town’s inhabitants, though not with the trained delicacy of Az’rim, whom he remained several paces behind. He walked stiffly but with purpose, arms cross tightly against his chest; like Chese, his beady eyes actively surveyed the darkening area for a vendor from whom he could procure the requisite potions for their adventure the following day (spot), though he paid no mind to where the Rysallean was headed. The dah’kin also didn’t want to be wholly reliant on Padma for aid in case of emergency.

Je'retiel immediately noticed Chese heading to an apothecary, it seemed to him too like it would be a good place to get some potions.

Virgil, being slightly larger in stature, strode alongside Chese, eying down on the less wholesome crowd that slowly began leeching out on the town. He kept a hand near, but not on his blade. He knew first and foremost that the group needed the potions, so he kept an eye out for some sort of herbalist or temple that could possibly produce the potions. He was also interested in finding a blacksmith to check on a few prices, so he also periodically turned his eyes skyward, looking for plumes of black smoke that would most likely lead to a smithy.

Padma walked quietly behind Virgil, taking note of the stores around, she felt a strange ominous danger on the streets around her, so she stuck close to the knight, who seemed to be the toughest one around, at least physically so.

Noticing the apothecary, Chese smiled and announced: "I think we'll find potions that way." She pointed at the place and continued: "Shall we head there or do you want to go elsewhere first?"

Spotting the nearby weapons store, Az'rim glanced over her shoulder enough to see that Je'retiel was following in his customary delayed stride, several paced behind her, exactly where she liked him. She side-stepped a rather large man in-between them and stood before him, looking up into his eyes, the only part of his face visible from underneath his balaclava. She knew that his sling would likely see very little battle what with the spells he carried the knowledge of, and did not need sharpening at any rate. "When you're through meet me there," she directed in a soft but stern voice, leading his eyes with hers towards the weapons stand. Then, she was gone into the crowd, her slight frame working effortlessly through the masses, ducking and skirting around less agile types until she approached the weapon stand that had caught her eye. The Ignean was hard to miss, ever were they brash and obvious in their ways, as proven by their garish skin and obnoxious horns. However Az'rim might have felt towards the Planetarii though, this was a means to an end and she approached the stand calmly and pushed her hood back just enough so that her face was visible beneath it, squinting black eyes in the glare of the setting sun. "I am looking to replenish my stock of arrows. Perhaps sharpen my dirk," she stated, looking at the Ignean evenly.

Standing near the middle of the road, Virgil looked back and forth between the Smithy and the Apothecary. He really needed to get better gear, but also needed to pick up a few healing potions. He spoke softly to himself, "Well, I guess with better gear, the better chance that I won't be needing any healing potions. But I'll have to save money to pick up some potions anyway..." He then turned to Chese, "Hey Chese, I'm heading to the Smithy. Catch up here shortly?"

Radix had allowed himself to fall quite a distance behind the others so he could be alone with his thoughts. Though he stared ahead, it was obvious that he was only vaguely aware of what was around him. It was only after someone bumped into him that Radix came to his senses. He checked his purse to make sure his money was still there. Indeed it was . . . He needed to focus, though. The rowdy shouts of wenching sailors could be heard throughout the town. Radix quickened his step, and in a few moments he was upon the group. Most had scattered, but Virgil and Chese were still there. "Good to see the both of you. What was that about a smithy that I had heard?" Ahead was both the aforementioned store and an apothecary, and Radix looked between the two. With a bit of hesitancy and a sigh, he angled toward the apothecary. Although his mace and armor were rather battered, having a healing potion or two on hand would be more important. After that was taken care of, he could worry about the state of his gear. "I'm heading to the apothecary. I'll meet you both here in a few moments," Radix stated and stepped into the store.

When Chese indicated the orientation of the apothecary, Je’retiel took notice, but only long enough to see where she was pointing, since Az’rim was soon enough at his front, giving him directions—orders, he understood, despite the timbre of her voice—on where and when to meet her. He swallowed the urge to retort smartly and instead watched her slip off into the array of characters milling about before making his own way to Khudee’s Concoctions, in the footsteps of Radix.

Chese watched as Azrim, Radix and Je'retiel rushed off to their destinations. To Virgil, she replied: "Sure. Check if they have any helmets, would you?" She smiled and turned to Padma. "Want to come check out the potions?" Chese then went after Radix and Je'retiel.

Virgil gave a wave of recognition towards Chese and walked over to the smithy's.

Virgil stepped out of the Smithy and found a post. He leaned there, looking over at the shop that Chese had headed to earlier.

Chese came back from the direction of the potion shop and looked at Virgil's new equipment. "Ooh, that's very nice", she said of the new sword. "Did you spot any helmets in there? And the potion shop is full of all kinds of weird stuff, you should check it out."

"Oh, hey Chese! Thank you." Virgil said as he was the Rysallean walk back out, "Yeah, there were a few helms in there. Nothing too spiffy for you. All metal stuff though. Not sure if you wanted a hat of what, but they do have helmets. I'm not much of the type for potions, but I may have to check that out."

"The old kwall in there had a good supply of healing potions." Chese held her chin and looked thoughtful as Virgil told about the helmet collection. "Well, I was looking for sturdier protection for my head, so a metal helmet should work fine. As long as it doesn't clank!" she chuckled. "I'll come back here unless we run into each other before that." With a smile, Chese departed again and moved nimbly toward the smithy Virgil had left some time ago.

Taking to Chese's words, Virgil took stock of his pack, "Looks like maybe I do need a few healing potions," the young knight said with a thin sigh. He opened up his coin pouch and counted out the gold he had, "This should get me a few." With that, he stepped off to the alchemists shop.

Virgil entered back into the main area of the shops and waited for more of the team to come out. Realizing no one was out here though, he figured that they must have all met up in one of the shops. With that, he headed into the Accessory shop.

Setting 2

Khudee's Concoctions was narrow and long store, entering from the street, one could see an endless stream of dust flying in all directions. More a narrow passageway than a store itself, on the far end of the store sat an old Kwall male, long barbs falling from its chin almost to the ground. The Kwall was covered in robes as he worked on some plants on a mortar. To the right and left of the main hallway, lining the walls, there were thousands of small compartments, some open, some with drawers in them, from them poked everything from alchemical instruments to strange plants and compounds.

Chese admired the amount of junk in the narrow store and couldn't help but start looking for the weirdest things she could see so she could ask about them. (Spot)

Chese glanced around the store, but the amount of strange stuff she did not recognize was so overwhelming, it was pointless to try to find something that particularly drew her eye without knowing, more or less, what she was looking for.

After Je’retiel stalked into the apothecary, he perused the premises, sidling alongside Chese to do so in confines of the close quarters. His attention quickly settled on the robed figure at the posterior of the jam-packed establishment, and, while his traveling companion was busy getting sidetracked by the innumerable oddities and treasures to behold, he strode down the length of the shop, to close the distance between himself and who he assumed to be the proprietor. Je’retiel did, however, remain at a respectable distance from the elder Kwall, as he did not know what concoction was currently being prepared. The masked dah’kin stood stiffly and with his arms crossed, waiting a beat before clearing his throat to indicate his presence.

The old Kwall, immediately sniffed the air as Je'retiel coughed, looking up at him with glazed over eyes, it was obvious the creature was half blind, "Cuztomerz..." he muttered, then let out a deep, booming cough, he looked towards the entrance of the door and his barbs quivererd lightly around his head. "TWO cuztomerz..." he added, his voice as profound and impassive as the deep ocean. "What can I do you for?" finalled asked the ancient amphibian.

Padma in the meantime, walked into the apothecary's shop, but seeing how crowded and small it had gotten, decided to wait by the entrance, kicking little stones with her slippers while she waited for her turn.

Chese eyed all the little items and things and wondered if she could get away with pocketing a few. "I believe the both of us would like some healing potions. Two for myself, please. Though compared to all this, healing potions seem rather mundane, don't they?" Chese walked up to where Je'retiel was in front of the old kwall, and while she stayed off from Je'retiel's personal space, it might have been too close for him. "If it strikes your fancy, I would very much like to hear what all you've got here, sir!" she said to the shopkeeper invitingly.

"Two healing potionz... comes up to 30 gold piezez..." said the old Kwall as he grabbed two long vials with a thick, reddish liquid inside and offered them to Chese. "I've got pretty much everything.. reztoration potionz, clear zight potionz, poizons, Awuhi leavez, Kalo rootz... but you need to know zome alchemy if you want to uze them.." said the Kwall, speaking slowly and with a gruff tone, as if he did not like conversation too much.

Chese counted the gold on the counter exactly and took the healing potions, packing them carefully into her backpack. "Fascinating. Say, is there a some sort of true strike potion... or ointment one could use on weapons?"

An unnecessarily deep sigh indicated the displeasure Je’retiel felt as Chese invaded the slim breadth of the store, and he sidled a half step away from her, trying not to bump into the oddities lining the side of the aisle. His mouth visibly moved beneath the rough knit of his balaclava, for he was ready to speak, but his vexing companion beat him to the punch. ‘Healing potions, indeed,’ he drawled simply, apparently just as keen on conversation as the proprietor of the premises, and cast a narrow-eyed, sideways glance at Chese. ‘What poisons have you?' he proceeded in a curt manner. 'Any appropriate suggestions for exhorian eradication?' he added, attention turned back to the Kwall.

The Kwall took Chese's money and put it away, raising an eyebrow at her question; "Never 'eard of putting ointment on weaponz..." he replied. "Sound like yer lookin' for en enchanter, not an alchemizt." continued the old amphibian before turning to Je'retiel. "How many potionz do ya want?" he asked him before looking to the side for a second, as if scanning the endless shelves on the wall of his store. "Got' killfizh oil, lightz up nice n' stingz woundz, got zerpenz venom, got ghoul flezh in a vial to zpread noxiouz fog and azid darkglyder zpit." he listed, finally looking at Je'retiel again. "Unfortunately I dinnae much about Exhorianz."

"Enchanting is a bit more permanent than what I was thinking. Hey, maybe that could be a business idea!" said Chese. "I would totally buy a some sort of true strike potion." If she noticed any of Je'retiel's odd indirect messages, she didn't give any sign of it. "I think that was it for me. Thank you, sir!" said Chese and moved out of the shop.

Noticing Chese moving out, Padma tried to get her attention for bit, she had never heard of anything remotely similar to a true strike potion, but she had an idea. "Hey, Chese." she said, waving at the other woman. "You could try imbuing weapons, it's a temporary enchantment." she added. Then turned to face the store and waited for Je'retiel to be done before she headed in.

Je’retiel furrowed his brow while focusing on deciphering the creature’s broad accent, particularly as he listed his goods. The dah’kin all but ignored Chese’s departure, though he did shift back to his original position in the aisle. ‘Two healing as well,’ was his brusque reply to the respective question prior to falling quiet for a reflective moment. He categorically picked through his mind, trying to recall what, if any, poison would be suitable against a heavily clad thing like an exhorian, or, better yet, numerous exhorian. (knowledge)

Unfortunately, Exhorians tended to be producers of poison themselves, there were several dangerously venomous breeds of the insect made it hard to properly kill them with poison. They did have a vulnerability to fire, however. Je'retiel's musings, however, were interrupted by the Kwall handing him two healing potions.

Padma didn't need to do much to get Chese's attention, since they were both standing just outside the shop. Chese looked at her questioningly and tried to recall what imbuing weapons meant. (knowledge)

Chese had never looked too deeply into imbuing, but she'd seen it done in a few occasions, it was a skill that allowed mages to do short term enchantments on weapons and armour.

Seeing as Je'retiel and Chese seemed to be done, Padma headed in. "Can I get 2 healing potions and 2 magic potions, please?" she asked innocently, trying not to annoy the old Kwall as she handed him 120 gold pieces.

The Kwall immediately took the money and handed Padma four small vials, two were long as test tubes, and two more were roundish. Then he took the money and stashing him away. The Kwall's whispers twitched for a second and then sniffed the air. "More gueztz..." he muttered, turning to Je'retiel. "What can I do you for?" he asked.

Since Padma went in, Chese decided to just wait for the two and kept an eye out for Virgil and Az'rim.

‘Alright then,’ Je’retiel started sharply after his ponderings, his stunted voice sounding agitated, though he really had no reason to be. Perhaps the coming and goings of the other members of his party was bothering him, who knew? ‘You mentioned an oil? Inflammable? The cost on that.’ He accepted the healing potions in his right hand and fiddled with his coin pouch with his left, the contents of which chinked together gently.

"Tiz lamp oil" replied the Kwall, sniffing the air in its usual manner as he pulled a small clay sphere, around the size of a cat's head, filled with liquid and a small cork on the top. "One vial' keep a lamp going for hourz.. so yah I guezz't burnz well... 10 gold a vial." he then added.

‘One vial,’ Je’retiel said bluntly. He let go of his money pouch long enough to secure the healing potions on his person, then cast an emotionless stare upon the Kwall. ‘My tab?’ he inquired, though he had already calculated his assumed bill in his head.

"Two healing potionz... and an oil vial... that comez up to 70 gold." replied the old Kwall, grabbing the vial of oil and setting it next to the healing potions on top of the counter.

"I'm all done, I'm gonna go look for a tailor or something to get a better outfit." winked Padma to Je'retiel with a big grin as she poked his stomach lightly with her elbow. Turning to the Kwall, she gave him a small bow are headed out to the street.

Chese saw Virgil standing around where they had parted, and as Padma too exited the shop, she thought they could group again. "Come on," she invited Padma and walked to where Virgil was.

"Shouldn't we wait for Je'retiel?" asked Padma as she walked out of the door, but Chese was already on her way to where Virgil was. A bit confused for a second, she decided it was best to just sit by the store and wait for the Dah'kin to come out. She noticed Az'rim walking by, heading to what seemed to be a healhily stocked trading post, "Maybe I can get clothes there!" she thought, and figured that when Je'retiel came out, they could all go to where Az'rim was.

Je'retiel carefully extracted the money from his pouch and counted it twice prior to handing the payment over to the shop keep. The young masked man remained silent but offered a curt nod to the fellow as a finalization of their transaction. He snatched-up and secured the vials beneath his cloak in short order, and fortunately so, for when Padma nudged him, she may as well have had a tack attached to her elbow, judging by the faintly spastic way Je'retiel reacted. Either very ticklish, or possibly surprised by the familiarity Padma suddenly displayed, he jerked a bit to the side, but managed enough restraint not to flail into the well-stocked walls of the narrow shop. He exhaled a sharp breath, straightened, and followed several steps behind the other woman, his eyes closing to slits as he emerged from the store's cover.

Shortly after Chese had left, Je'retiel emerged from the narrow Kwall store, surprising Padma a bit. "Oh! all done?" she asked in a chipper tone, with a smile on her face. "Just saw your sister go into that shop, it looks interesting!" she added pointing to the store Az'rim was in. "Let's go check it out." concluded the girl, marching resolutely towards the eclectic shop, tugging Je'retiel's sleeve to get him to walk after her.

Though nothing appeared out of place, Je’retiel grumbled, pulled his sleeve back and unnecessarily adjusted the nubbly fabric after Padma tugged at it, then reluctantly trod after her, to the shop the Caerhamian said Az’rim was in.

Virgil strode into the shop and looked around at the numerous plants hanging from the wall, "Ahai, Shopkeep! I'm looking for a few healing potions. I was wondering what they would run me?" he asked as he stepped up to the counter.

"Another one..." mumbled the Old Kwall with a sigh, stroking the long barbs comings from his chin and jaw with one hand and taking a pipe with the other one. "Good day." he said the Virgil as he turned towards him, groaning at the effort before he gave the knight a small bow. "Minor Healing Potionz are 15 coin, regular onez go for 30, good zir."

(Insert something about Virgil buying the potions and leaving the store here.)

Setting 3

On the other hand, the blacksmith's stall was surprisingly neat and organized, covered by a heavy canvas tent with a large hole in the middle for the furnace fumes, several pieces of armour and weapons were displayed on some long wooden tables. Two other igneans clad in metal armour sat on the far edge of the shop, sipping some tea while playing cards, probably guards keeping anything from being stolen. As Az'rim approached, the smithy turned to her, "Arrows are 1 gold piece each." he replied gruffly. The Ignean had noticed Az'rim's race immediately, but he seemed not to care. "The blade doesn't look like it needs any sharpening, though."

Az'rim nodded at the price and tucked her dirk back into her pack - the smithy knew best. "I would like 15 arrows, then," she replied, stepping under the canvas so that she could remove her hood entirely and alleviate her eyes from the glare of the sun. Neither of them appeared at all bothered by each other's race, though on the Ignean's part it was likely due to working in Droia, a place known for a melting pot of cultures. The orderliness of the tent suited her, even if the occupants did not, and she heaved a short sigh as she waited. She knew exactly how much money she had left, after having made a careful calculation of her funds before leaving the inn. Perhaps a bit more armor wouldn't hurt either, but she was unsure of whether she had enough, and it wasn't Az'rim's style of fighting to get too terribly close to danger. As a huntress, she knew when to cut and run, and could likely outrun the majority of pursuers. Her black eyes skirted over to the Igneans sipping tea and playing cards, ever aware of her surroundings as she liked to be.

Virgil stepped into the area of the Smithy, standing back as Az'rim finished up her shopping. He looked around the store to check the inventory from what he could see, knowing he was looking for some better armor, a better shield, and maybe a longsword. He also made sure to check to see if they had helmets, as per Chese's request.

The ignean took the money and grabbed a handful of arrows from a barrel next to the furnace, there were several other barrels containing slightly different looking arrows. In the meantime, Virgil quickly located everything he had been looking for including helmets, however they were all metal, no leather or hats, and seemed to be mostly utilitarian, primarily chainmail coifs, kettle hats and iron helmets.

Virgil stepped up to the counter, "Smithy, can I get a longsword and possibly a suggestion for a new shield?" He said, setting his current shield and sword on the counter. He had no idea what Chese would have wanted for a helmet, but he kept in mind that all they had were metal helms.

The Ignean took a look at Virgil's equipment and pulled out a longsword from under the counter, its design was obviously planetarii with an ornate handle resembling flames that coiled over the lithe blade. "This is 70 gold pieces... I can buy your stuff off you for 32 quip too." growled the Ignean, then turned and pointed towards some shields behind him. "I don't carry wooden stuff, can't work it, but I have bucklers and large iron shields.. might be heavy for ya though. They are worth 25 and 70 gold respectively." he continued.

Az'rim's face remained impassive while she watched the Ignean grab the arrows from the barrel. While the original Ignean was helping Virgil, the small Dah'kin walked over to the other Planetarii playing cards and stood next to their card table to get their attention. "What of the other arrows?" she asked, gesturing towards the barrels with a nod of her head, silver hair shimmering in the light of the forge. Her curiosity was piqued, keenly interested on a finer variety of arrow that she knew she could use with fatal accuracy. "I am also interested in armor, leather preferably," she said, not indicating at all that she might not be able to afford it.

Virgil looked over the shields, "I'll take the large shield, please," he asked, pulling out 108 gold and sliding it onto the table, planning on selling his old equipment.

One of the planetarii playing cards looked quickly at Az'rim, as if she caused him some sort of disgust and replied simply, "We ain't the smithy.", these guards were obviously not as open as the smithy. In the meantime, the shop owner took Virgil's sword and shield in part of payment, as well as his gold, and produced a shield to accompany the sword he'd just given the human.

Virgil smiled and nodded to the Smithy, "Thank you, sir." He slipped the shield onto his arm, and affixed the new sheathe to his belt before turning and heading back out of the shop.

A severe curling of the lip heralded Az'rim's reaction to the foul Nai'thar and she gave them no further notice as she turned her back to them, wishing for once that she was back in the calm quiet of the Underdark where she would not have to worry about Igneans and their idiotic bumblings unless they were being tortured or better yet, slaughtered. Once there was an appropriate pause in conversation between Virgil and the smithy, Az'rim sidled up to the large knight and stepped slightly in front of him so that she could be seen. "I see you have other arrows. Might I see them? I am also interested in better quality armor," she said, looking down at herself as she spoke of her gear and brushing a bit of dust from her cloak idly.

The Ignean turned to Az'rim as she approached and nodded. "Sure, I got both serrated and flammable arrows." he said pulling out one of each, the flammable arrow had an oily cloth running right through a small hole in the metal tip and tied to the shaft of the projectile, presumably, once lit, the tip would heat up considerably. The head of the serrated arrow, on the other hand, resembled a barded shark's tooth. "As for armours, I only work on metal, so if you want anything lighter, you might have to check other places." he added uncompromisingly.

Az'rim smiled a twisted smile as the Ignean pulled out an example of each arrow, a glint in her black eyes as she looked them over. "I suppose the flammable would be better for an Exhorian?" she asked, looking up to the smithy with keen interest after she had taken careful look at both the serrated arrow and the flammable ones. How many would she need? The nest was crawling with them and they had consumed the little lynx, who, despite her annoying ways, was more than a handful... Her attention was yanked immediately back to the present and she simply looked to the smithy as he told her he had only metals. Of course, she should have known. Igneans would work with only what substances they could use their Red Magic on, the obnoxious sods. She gave a small smile of defeat and inhaled a bit. "Of course," she said with a quick raise of her eyebrows. "Then I will have a look at some metal armor then."

"The buggers rue fire alright." replied the Ignean with a shrug, he knew there were exhorians lurking around in the hills to the west, but they never got close enough to Khanidi or Dophori to warrant hunting them down. When Az'rim asked to see some metal armor, the Ignean walked back to some armored mannequins and lifted them, sliding them forward one by one. One of them war clad in a bright chain mail armor, extending down to the mid thigh. Another one had a suit of splint mail on, and the last one donned a beautiful ornate steel breastplate.

"Indeed," Az'rim breathed, her attention set on the flammable arrows. As the smithy pulled out the armored mannequins, Az'rim folded her arms neatly across her chest and then lifted a single finger to rest against the side of her cheek as she analyzed her needs and how each armor might fit them. The breastplate, while nicely decorated, was out of the question entirely, it being much too bulky for Az'rim's slight frame. The splint mail caught her eyes, but she knew it too would be heavy and possibly restrict her movements. After a careful study, she looked up to the smithy and asked, "What are the prices for the chain mail and the splint mail?"

The Ignean put his hands on his hips and looked at the two pieces of armor carefully before turning to Az'rim again. "I can let the splint mail go for 150 gold, and the Chain for 260. Steel is an expensive material to get and make." shrugged the Ignean, knowing the prices were steep, but one couldn't skimp on good quality armor.

Stoically, Az'rim nodded at the prices, giving no impression that they were far out of her price range. She eyed the splint armor one last time before she looked up at the smithy and said, "Seven flammable arrows." She pulled her coin-purse from her belt and pulled it open with two precise fingers, reaching in and extracting the amount she needed and then placing it on the table in two neat stacks of almost identical height.

Without much ceremony, the ignean moved to take Az'rim's gold pieces before he handed her the arrows, each of them a long wooden shaft with a feathered tail, the arrows were somewhat sturdier than regular arrows and right after the tip, each had a small wrap doused in oil, probably hiding some other flammable materials inside.

As the Ignean gathered her arrows, Az'rim shrugged her quiver forward, reaching across her full bust to pull it down her arm and shoulder. She grasped the bulk of arrows with one ivory hand and placed them with careful haste into the center of her quiver, surrounded by the other, more slender shafts she had purchased earlier. Sliding her quiver's strap back into place so that it sat comfortably against her back, Az'rim deftly adjusted her cloak and then cast her black eyes left and right to see if there was anything else of interest for her there before she beheld the Ignean smithy again, asking, "I am in the market for a warbow. Have you any in steel? I would like to test the weight."

"Yeah... I've got iron and steel." replied the Ignean as he brought his hand to his head, scratching the base of one of his golden horns. "Here" finally said the Ignean handing Az'rim a short, recurved steel bow which had two half-foot long blades protruding from the edges, angled perpendicularly to the steel of the bow.

Az'rim's black eyes glinted in the light of the forge as the Ignean drew forth his bow, tearing away her gaze from its linger on his fine set of horns; also a fine material for making her weapon of choice. She slid her thin fingers over the body of the bow, lifting it from smithy's grasp to hold it firmly in her hand. Turning to the side, she lifted her arm and tested the steadiness of her arm, her arm thin but strong. "How much?"

"It's high quality metal." replied the Ignean with a shrug, pointing to the bladed edges of the bow. "Strong and as light as wood... I wouldn't let it go for less than 90 coin."

"Done," breathed Az'rim, lowering her arm to let the bow rest on the ground as she brought forth her coin purse. She pinched the string and pulled open the drawn mouth, looking inside the black velvet to count her coins before drawing them out. Quickly, she dipped her hand into the purse and drew out a collection of coins in her spider-like fingers and set them on the counter. She counted them hastily with her index finger and then scooped five coins back into her moneybag and stuffed it deep inside her pocket. Then, she grabbed the bow near the top, drawing it towards herself to examine the edge of the perpendicular blades, running her fingertip in a careful swipe over the edge in total satisfaction. "This is a fine bow. I'll put it to good use," she said, looking left and right to make sure that Virgil was gone before leaning in with her elbow on the counter, fixing her black eyes on his golden ones. "Say, do you know where I could find fellrams?"

"I can take your old bow as part of payment." replied the Ignean as he took 82 gold pieces from Az'rim and her old wooden bow, setting it aside as he stashed the coins in a small iron safe on the back of the counter. "Good." replied dryly the man when before Az'rim asked him about Fellrams. "City has stables, they keep a few for rides, buckling things, I'll take a horse over them any day." shrugged the planetarii pointing towards the east gate of the city. "I hear they catch'em to the southeast, by the hills, as if you were headin' to The Fangs."

Az'rim nodded her head slowly, leaning against the strong shaft of her new bow with a firm hand near the nock as she contemplated her options. Killing a fellram in the city limits was a tempting plan, but a messy one. No, she'd have to navigate things to the southeast if she wanted a weapon made from such fine material as horn. And then there was always the meddlesome issue of no one in their party with smithing skills. "The Fangs, you say?" she asked, interestedly. "What kinds of things would a girl find there?"

"What am I, a tour guide." grunted the Ignean, clearly in a business-minded disposition. "Fangs are the start of the Asfeltas mountains. They say it's a weird, eerie place, never been myself. But Mages don't like to go near there, that's all I know." he added with a shrug, looking if any other customers needed him.

Chese slipped into the tent with a smooth movement. "Good afternoon, sirs," she announced her presence to the three igneans, looking at them curiously but not too long. She then turned to the pieces of equipment on display and walked over to the helmets. "I'm looking for a helmet that doesn't make too much noise. What would you recommend?"

Surprisingly, the Ignean was just as gruff to Chese as he'd been to Az'rim, showing that he really did not have a preference race-wise when it came to doing business, he walked to the woman and looked at her up and down. "I've got metal helmets, but I don't think that'll do you any good." he replied, leaning forward and resting both hands on the counter. "You're carrying all light equipment, I think there's an amenities shop ran by a flowery human down the road, or you can try a leather-worker."

"Are you sure?" asked Chese curiously while picking up a sleek-looking steel helmet and fitted it into her head. "I once tried this bronze hat that was quite ...huh." She clanked her head around in the helmet a couple of times before taking it off and putting it back. "Yes, maybe you're right. But oh," she started, remembering she still had the exhorian piece with her. She took it out of her bag. "Is this exhorian shell a better material? Can you work with this? I'm not sure there's enough, though," she said while comparing the piece to the helmets.

"Yeah.. this is good material." replied the Ignean, touching the chitinous plate with his index finger and thumb. "I can probably break it down and add it as splint to a padded cap to make decent helmet, it doesn't clank either." he added as he tapped it with a finger, producing only a small, dull noise. "But i'll need at least twice as much to make you a decent Helmet." he added.

"All right, thanks..." Chese pondered for a short moment as she looked at the shell piece. "I shall have to find more of that," she said as she put the thing away again. "How about bracers? Any non-clanky ones?"

"Bracers don't usually clank unless you hit them with something." replied the Ignean with a shrug as he pulled several types of metallic bracers, all with a clear ignean design, a flame like pattern etched into the metal of each one, ascending from the wrist to the forearm. "I have these." he added, pointing at a bronze, iron and steel bracer.

"Ah, these are exquisite!" admired Chese as she looked over the bracers. She then weighed each of them and finally tried on the steel ones. "Perfect. I'll take these!" she said and took out her money to count a sum for the ignean.

"Thanks for yer purchase." replied the Ignean as he took the coins and put away the other two bracers. "If you bring me some more of that Chitin, I can buy it off you or make equipment out of it." added the horned man, pointing to Chese's backpack, where the chitin plate lay.

"Certainly!" replied Chese to the smith. With a wave of goodbye, she then left the store and went off to buy a hat from a leatherworker. HAving done that, she wondered for a moment whether there would be any graftable gems in the market, and set out on a search for them. And if there weren't any, at least she could locate the others. (search)

Unfortunately for Chese, searching the entire market inch by inch would've taken several hours, if not days. However, on her way to the leather worker she noticed Padma, Az'rim and Je'retiel in a well stocked trading post, filled with all sorts of strange merchandise. They were apparently being beset by a large Panther man, who approached quietly and slowly, without them noticing so far.

Setting 4

Decidedly ignoring the Ignean's rudeness, Az'rim listened to the information he gave with mild interest, tucking many things away to think about later. She wasn't certain how much her tagalongs were interested in traipsing through the Asfeltas mountains in search of fellrams, but steeds would improve their manner of transport, not to mention provide a valuable material to craft weapons out of. She seized her warbow and hooked it over her back with little trouble despite its much larger body than her shortbow. The, without another word to the smithy, Az'rim turned on her heel, fixed her hood over her head, and stalked out of the smithy shop on silent heels. Once she was clear of the tent flap she scanned around for a stall in the market where she could pick up some accessories. (Spot)

Az'rim walked around the market for a few minutes, not seeing Virgil anywhere, she passed the Kwall store and noticed Padma, Chese and Je'retiel in and around it. Finally, she saw what seemed to be a trader or general merchant selling stuff like clothes and jewlery. The store was a small building with an open gate and a long table poking out, the table itself, as well as the inside walls of the store were covered in eclectic looking knick knacks, fabrics with different patterns, clothes, figurines and strange objects, if anyone had accessories, it was that store.

Az'rim's smooth, dah'kin crafted boots padded faster once her black eyes spotted the stall full of assorted odds and ends and hanging silks and ginghams to name a mere fraction of the bounty she saw spilling out from the tiny stall and onto the table. She approached seemingly from an ocean of people that she parted through without much notice as she cut in and out of the swarming mass of bodies until she stood quietly before the stall. Allowing her cowl to remain over her platinum tresses, Az'rim stepped into the store with a shrewd eye hunting endlessly for something that would assist her with the purchase she intended to make before rendezvousing again with her miscreant band of outcasts. Once inside the store she made a clean sweep with her eyes until they fell upon a stylish belt hanging from a hook on the wall. Immediately, she sashayed over to it and lifted the aesthetically pleasing fabric from its resting place and ran it through her small fingers before looking up and around for a clerk to price it.

Not a minute had passed since Az'rim walked into the door when she was greeted by a garish man of Rysallean or Ravillan ascent, wearing a strange mix of Caerhamian clothes and all sorts of Catfolk adornments, topped with a Planetarii headdress. "Hello, Hello!" said the man with a small, he was stocky and of medium height, with a big, toothy grin and short wavy hair, topped with a very thin and well trimmed moustache and beard. "What can I do for you fair lady! Odd to see your kind out and about in broad daylight." he added with an over-dramatized bow. "I see you're looking at a fine piece already, perfect accessory for anyone who likes to look good whether it's a pauper or a prince, only a 100 coin."

Lifting her black eyes to the tawdry man and his many, many ridiculous baubles, Az'rim glared icily. He continued to trickle forth trip from his mouth and the dah'kin turned her attention back to the belt, wishing she were back in Skarrad where the sun and inhabitants did not annoy her so much. With the belt, she held an end in each hand so that she could fashion it around herself and see how she liked the look. She would wear it underneath her other garments, however. Their motley crew did not need to know what things she spent her money on. When she was satisfied, she dug her purse out and gave the clerk the right amount of coins, pushing the neat stacks forward as she tossed her purse back into her pocket.

"Thank you for your purchase!" grinned the gaudy man from ear to ear as Az'rim handed him the money, which he promptly stashed. "We also have everything from earrings to catfolk fertility charms." he grinned as he headed to the back of the store. "Please let me know if anything catches your fancy."

A few seconds later, Padma appeared at the entrance of the store, waving at Az'rim loudly. "Hey! Does this place has anything good?" she asked as she walked towards the Dah'kin woman.

By the time Padma's gratingly cheery voice cracked the pleasant silence of the too-small stall, there was no time to conceal the belt from view and Az'rim, with her back to the childlike Caerham, closed her eyes in total disgust. However, she inhaled and nodded to the clerk, keeping in mind that the best place to keep an eye on Padma was to be right next to her. Painting on a smug smile, Az'rim put her hands on her tiny waist and spun around to fix her eyes on the black haired girl. "You tell me," she replied in a cool smooth voice, knocking her hip a bit to the side to draw attention to her waist, where the belt was tied fashionably.

Coming up from behind, Je’retiel paused a few steps from the gate and lingered at the shop’s entrance before actually stepping inside. Indeed, his sister was within, but this was not where she said to meet her, a fact that he found rather irksome. With his arms crossed snuggly over his chest, Je’retiel took a slow, general perusal of the goods hanging on the walls and those set upon the table before his attention settled on Az’rim’s newly adorned hips. His dark eyes traced the curve of the accessory along her body, then up her torso to meet her eyes. The corner of his right eye twitched as he processed how much that silly trinket, no matter how lovely it looked on his sister, likely set them back. ‘You said I was to meet you in the weapons store,’ he said as evenly as his speech impediment would allow.

"Ohuuu, that looks lovely!" replied Padma as soon as she noticed the belt. "Must've been expensive, tho." she added. Immediately, the girl noticed the slightly tense atmosphere between the two Dah'kin siblings and immediately started browsing through some clothes to distract them. "I wonder how much a set of silk clothes are... you think they'd look good on me, guys?" she asked cheerfully.

"And yet you found me anyway. It seems as if all is right, then," Az'rim replied calmly to her younger brother as she ran her finger over the jewel in the middle of her slender belt, inwardly smirking as she watched Je'retiel eye her. She turned her head towards Padma and looked the girl up and down once, not smiling, but instead of opening her mouth for an insult, the Dah'kin woman said "Silk looks good on any lady. Something in yellow would flatter your dark hair." She kept her tone dry but flashed a civil look to the clothes the young girl was rummaging through before turning her eyes back to Je'retiel. She kept him in her peripheral vision as she walked by and around him without grazing on her way, and approached a rack with more a more pragmatic selection of belts on them. Spying a spell component belt, she picked it up and tested the feel of the leather in her hands. "You will accompany me to the smithy," she began, her tone non-negotiable. "Your weapon is laughable. But, with this, you should be able to manage with a small upgrade," she said, turning around and presenting the component belt towards him.

The fabric of his mask writhed visibly as Je’retiel bit back a caustic remark. For a long time, his sling was a perfectly adequate weapon for his needs. Perhaps he was quickly outgrowing it, especially if he was to continue roaming about, killing beasties for hire. It took a moment, but he spoke again after a dismissive glance at the proffered belt. First, however, he made it a point to look off at Padma before refocusing on Az’rim. Cloying even in his subtle but knowing defiance, he said, ‘Actually, I was thinking in investing in some silk, myself. A nice robe… perhaps?’ The young man’s eyes widened slightly as he raised his eyebrows upon completion of the question, and remained affixed upon his sister's face.

"Oh! yeah, that sounds good!" replied Padma with a smile, trying to ignore the tension between the siblings. Immediately, she noticed most of the clothes she was sifting through were made from cloth or linen and tried to get the attention of the clerk Az'rim had spoken to before. "Uhm.. excuse me, do you have any silk clothing?"

The clerk turned towards Padma with a huge grin, making an exaggerated bow, much like he'd done with Az'rim before. "Of course young miss!" he replied, his several cloaks and sashes flying in all directions when he jerked back up. "We've got some imports from the south." he continued, going to the west end of the store and bringing several items of clothing. There were pants, robes and shirts with different adornments and of different colours and designs, but all and all enough to put together four silk outfits.

"Ohuu!" replied Padma with a huge smile, looking at all the clothes. "Oh! Check it out Je'retiel." she added, turning to the Dah'kin man for a second. "I think I'll take this." she said taking a set of light silk pants and a small white shirt and vest.

Intent upon at least getting something repaired while he was in town, Finneun found himself in an entire group of people at the shop he was in. Backing up until he was deep within the shop's confines, Finn searched for the quickest way out. This would take some doing. Then he spotted her. That woman. The one who had caused him to spend a year of his life repaying a debt that was not his. Finn narrowed his eyes as he moved a bit closer.

Az'rim lifted a brow at Je'retiel and his childishly defiant ways. Had they been in Skarrad she would have introduced his resistance to the back of her hand, just like she had all those years ago when she gave him his scar. There were too many eyes present however, and Az'rim had aligned herself rather hostilely towards the members of her party. There was too much ground to make up and too little time to make it seem believable without an effort and she could not throw away her position over something so petty. As Padma yammered to herself about the garments, Az'rim looked briefly in the girl's direction and then turned around to replace the leather component belt onto its hook. "Now you're thinking," she agreed to Jer'retiel placidly, though her eyes flashed suddenly to the side, where she felt a hot gaze upon her. She paused, listening to her senses to gather that she was being crept up upon from behind, the hair on the back of her neck prickling slightly. As soon as the look had come across her, she looked to Je'retiel and straightened her cloak. "You had better finish your shopping. Remember the smithy," she reminded evenly. Then, without much preamble, she turned her head to the side and hissed, "Show yourself! Your footsteps give you away."

‘Those… will suit you… nicely,’ Je’retiel haltingly said to Padma, perhaps obviously unaccustomed to even thinking about giving anyone something resembling a compliment. Stiffly, like he was forcing himself to do so, he stepped toward the clerk to inspect the remaining selection of silk garments. He gave Az’rim one last look over his shoulder, but it seemed as if she were through telling him what to do, and that she was preoccupied with something else. Since the dah’kin didn’t see the sense in replacing his otherwise worn but wearable clothes for an entirely new outfit, he carefully lifted a duster-length garment from the selection and shifted his attention to the eclectically dressed man in charge of the shop. ‘The cost on this?’

The clerk was slightly surprised at Az'rim's sudden outburst towards another costumer, but it was not the first time he'd seen a Catfolk and Dah'kin arguing in his store. As long as he didn't need to call the guard, it was best if he didn't stick his nose into their business, after all, both looked like the dangerous kind. "Oh, those are fine silken robes you've picked, sir, a bargain at 66 coin."

Chese made her way to the accessory store where most of the others were. The place was a bit of an eyesore and its owner even more so, but the vision just made Chese amused. "Hello there," she said to Padma, Je'retiel and Az'rim. She didn't really pay attention to the sneaking panther since that wasn't exactly unheard of behaviour among panthers. She raised an eyebrow at Az'rim, though. Her attention then shifted towards the pendants she noticed a couple of steps behind the dah'kin. Chese sidestepped Az'rim fluidly and started wondering which pedant was the best.

As Az'rim spoke, Finneun paused for a moment. He hadn't really been trying to sneak up on her. The fact that she thought so amused him. Plus he was standing in the shadows. Stepping into the light again, Finn's expression barely changed from his narrow eyed look. "Greetings," he said quietly to her. Finn would wait and see if she recognized him as well. If not, well, he had plenty of time to follow her and cause her as much trouble and grief as she had caused him.

Virgil walked into the shop and saw the rest of the group milling about, as well as the panther. "Hello all, we about ready to start heading out?" He asked, nodding towards the rest of the party.

"Thank you!" replied Padma to Je'retiel's compliment. Suddenly, Az'rim spoke rather harshly at a Panther Catfolk who had come to stand near them. The young Caerhamian immediately scurried away from the conflict, standing a few feet behind the Dah'kin woman as the newcomer replied. "Uhm.. do you know him?" she asked, almost in a whisper, trying not to anger the large Arn'aro and rather surprised Virgil could just walk over without realizing what was going on.

Smoothly, Az'rim looked to Chese and Virgil as they entered, acknowledging them with an almost imperceptible nod as she looked each in the eye. However her onyx stare fell back to Finneun, tilting her head up to behold the Catfolk, and placing a hand lightly on her hip as she stepped forward. "Greetings indeed," she replied, her voice low and steady, forcing him to listen to her carefully with his sharp feline ears. As Padma took refuge behind Az'rim and whispered her question, Az'rim turned her head slightly to the side so that she didn't answer the Caerhamian girl while facing away, and replied, "Yes, we are familiar." Then she closed the distance between her and Finneun, unhampered by fear or intimidation. His name escaped her, but the memory of having ripped him off to a tremendous personal gain had was not easily forgotten, and neither was the retribution of having to pay more for his goods the next time around. But harsh were the ways of Skarrad, and dark were the days that had crafted the devious Dah'kin into something so selfish. With a quick glance over to Virgil, Chese, Padma, and Je'retiel, she smirked. "It seems our paths are destined to cross, Panther," she said at last, lifting her brows and appraising him with her eyes. "Perhaps this time could work to both of our benefit, since we are now on even terms," she said suggestively, leading him with her eyes to the members of her party.

"Even monetarily speaking, yes." Finneun's eyes lost their narrowness when he realized just how many people she was with. "What are you doing so far away from home?" he questioned. She hadn't seemed the sort to leave when he first met her. Now here she was. He remembered everything about her. Including that at the time of their first meeting, she had seemed particularly displeased about her station in life. Tilting his head to the side, he regarded the one who hid behind Az'rim, and the one that she had greeted earlier. This trip might prove fruitful after all.

"About, about," replied Chese to Virgil while she tried on a silver pendant. She was about to ask how it looked on her when Padma and Az'rim suddenly started paying attention to the panther, so she just turned and looked at the others. The way Az'rim spoke to the panther and how close she had went made Chese think that they were an estranged couple. She smiled suspiciously widely at the idea of a dah'kin liking a panther and saw Az'rim being suggestive. "I must say I wouldn't say no to another sword, or pair of ones," she said then and approached the two from an angle so that she stood facing the two from their sides. "Might I interest you in joining us?" she asked from Finneun and offered her hand.

‘Sold,’ Je’retiel simply stated. Unable to keep himself from looking, now that the interaction between his sister and Finneun had drawn almost everyone else’s attention, he dismissively handed payment off to the clerk then also turned to the point of the other party members’ focus. He heard Virgil arrive but momentarily disregarded his presence. With unblinking austerity, he first regarded the stranger and then Chese, not sure if he remotely admired her ability to cut to the chase, or if her guilelessness irritated him.

Az'rim's eyes cut to Chese as she interrupted. "I think I can persuade him to join, if I may have a moment?" she asked somewhat shortly, though her expression was guileless. The woman was as blunt as she was obvious, but Az'rim remained civil. She turned to Finneun, "There are five of us now but we need someone else, someone strong," she explained in a hush, eyeing the clerk to make sure he was minding his own business. She turned her attention back to the Panther and held his yellowish gaze. "So, are you following me or did the pitch demons finally run you off?" she hissed and then smirked slowly.

Virgil cocked an eyebrow at the exchange going on between Az'rim, Chese, and the Panther. Curious as to where this was going, he leaned against a post in the store, but gently reminded the rest of the group, "We need to start heading out soon, so finish up shopping. I'd like to get on our way before dark."

"I am not a hunter," Finneun said quietly to Az'rim. "I would not debase myself in such a way." He gave her a blank look after that. She would take it as an insult, and let her. Why would he care? "However, I am in need of employ. I will travel, only under one condition." Finn didn't bother to say yet what that condition was. And he wasn't going to say until they were out of the town. No matter how they asked, he would keep silent. Finn was good at that.

"A waste," Az'rim hissed softly, laughing in quiet irony. The panthers were born hunters. However, she loosely folded her arms and gazed up as he made his cryptic demand, lifting her silver eyebrows. "This is for a mutual benefit, none of us here dictates the conditions," she replied smoothly. Her head turned towards the entrance. "If you would rather discuss this somewhere more private, I would be willing to relocate," she offered.

Seeing as it seemed they were gonna get a new party member, Padma's mind couldn't help but wander back to Lilee. "I have to agree with Virgil, guys." she said, getting out from behind Az'rim now that it was obvious that violence was not in the horizon. "If we hurry we might be able to find Lilee alive!"

Chese mentally yawned at the two apparently going through their previous relationship through clenched teeth. On the other hand, now it didn't seem like they knew each other that well. "Condition?" she asked simply, being curious even if she agreed with Az'rim's sentiments. Her heart jumped a bit at Padma's words, since it hadn't even occurred to her that exhorians might not immediately kill their prey. It could be possible, and so Chese's eyes turned rather wishful.

Turning to Chese, Finneun nodded. "I will explain later." He looked again at Az'rim. "I will talk about it later. Right now, I believe your friend has said something about finding someone alive." Finished, he looked fully upon Padma and nodded. "I will help."

Az'rim used all of her strength to bite back any number of caustic remarks that surfaced as Padma, in all of her naivety, blurted out something so ridiculous. A lynx survive an entire hive of maddened exhorians? Unlikely. She kept those thoughts to herself however, and noticed the general consensus of the group. "If she is still alive I could try and track her," she offered, surmising that she was the only one with her special skill set.

Having crept forward to be within adequate earshot of the conversation, Je'retiel most carefully paid attention to the exchange between Az'rim and Finneun. As was his nature, he eyed the newly appointed member of their party warily, though he did look briefly to Padma and then Chese at the mention of Lilee. On his very best days, Je'retiel could be considered simply apathetic, for after Az'rim and Chese had announced the demise of the rambunctious lynx girl earlier in this very day he hadn't really given her much consideration. After his sister offered to track Lilee, the dah'kin finally stepped forward and reached a hand out to touch her elbow, a non-verbal nudge to indicate that they might want to get going.

Chese looked inquiringly at Finneun, wondering what he would do if his odd condition wasn't met. Then again, if it came up before they had hanaged to do anything, she could just lie that of course they would fulfill the condition. Chese wondered about Az'rim's offer since they knew rather precisely where Lilee was, but she then figured that the dah'kin's desire to impress was quite desperate. Chese dug out gold from her bag and walked briskly to the shopkeep to pay for the pendant. "Here you go, for this lovely pendant. Make sure there's a discount waiting for me when I get back!" she said with a flattering and uncommanding tone and winked at him. Chese then walked back to the others. "Shall we?" She realised she didn't yet know the panther's name but figured that she could bring it up once they were comfortably on their way.
