Elftown Fairytales

Compiled by your lovely local Heralders

Dear Elftowners:

We realise that the Herald has drifted a bit away from the basic fantasy groundings that a lot of you are here for, and so with such a wonderfully magical and universal theme we decided to do something that could involve all elftowners! Fairytales are international, they're full of wonder, mystery, beauty and horror. Here we bring you a collection of Fairytales written by members from all over Elftown and all over the world, read them and enjoy! And so, once upon a time, in a land very much like Elftown... :P

NOTE! Comments & criticism is welcome and desired! But only where it applies to the writing and stories, but we reserve the right to delete anything we find offensive.

Briar Rose - a re-telling of The Sleeping Beauty

Written by [Kaimee] K. A. Conrick, other writings can be found at http://writersco.com/5

...Forty or so years ago, before their kingdom froze in time and every citizen took up this statue game, back then the names of the two sisters had been well known. Now when they were remembered it was as if the magic stole a bit of the tale; one sister trapped in a tower and the other... the other? There can’t be another. Our young men waste themselves on the Briar Rose! No old voice reminded them of the kingdom’s tradition...

Moon Foreheaded Girl - a Persian Folktale

Written by [Sunny Silverunicorn], Sanaz Sattari, more writings can be found at http://elfwood.lysator.liu.se/libr/s/a/sanazsattari2/sanazsattari2.html

Once upon a time, in a far away country, right into the deepest depths of a vast forest, in a little stone house lived a young girl with her stepmother, and her stepsister. Her name was Toranj. Like in all fairy tales, where stepdaughters are treated like servants, the girl of our story was no exception. When the very first rays of sun came into the sky, she would wake up in the dusty attic, which...

Reflections of Queen Snow White

Written by [dmeredith], David Meredith.

"...Have already received gifts from the nearest barons. It is quite a selection I must say, but all totally appropriate and honestly a bit excessive if you want my opinion on the matter. I expect that the Lords from farther out will simply bring theirs with them the day of the wedding, which as you know creates infinitely more work for me, but I shall endure and catalog everything received so that her Majesty may send appropriate reply in a timely manner. I do think that in particular you should make a special effort to thank Duke Gewissenhoft. The carriage he sent for the honeymoon is quite exquisite to say nothing of the horses..."

Mouldysocks and the Three Bears

Written by [Dark Side of the Moon], more writings can be found at http://elfwood.lysator.liu.se/libr/w/o/wood31/wood31.html

We’re all familiar with the story of Goldilocks and the three bears. The bears went out for a morning ramble whilst their porridge cooled and Goldilocks wandered intrepidly into their home, tasted the porridge, sat on the chairs, tried the beds, fell asleep, and awoke to have the bejesus scared out of her when she saw the three of them ogling her as she slept. I think the moral of the story was supposed to be “stay out of houses of strangers”…or some crap like that...

The Other Shoe - Cinderella

Written by [Mirime], Carla K. Anderson, more writings can be found at http://elfwood.lysator.liu.se/libr/c/a/carlaa/carlaa.html

The prince knelt in front of the final stepsister.
He guided her foot to the shoe. It fit perfectly.
Cinderella fainted as her sister screamed with joy.
The wedding was held the next day. The bride’s sole complaint was the taste of her slice of wedding cake.
One week later, she fell to the ground in a fit and died, so Prince Charming married Cinderella.
They lived Happily Ever After.

Promise Made - A re-telling of The Princess and the Frog, or the Golden Ball.

Written by [Po], Rose A. Campbell, more writings can be found at http://sleepingdragonsinc.com/po_place/

Harry King’s daughter wasn’t looking at the lovely park scenery. She wasn’t listening to the chatter of birds and squirrels or lying back on the manicured grass gazing at fluffy white clouds as they scuttled across a bluer-than-blue sky. She wasn’t skipping stones across the peaceful pond or returning admiring glances from passing young men. Lilah King was jacked-in to her MP3 player, blasting speed metal tunes through her brain to block out any stray thoughts as she glared into her handheld, cramming figures in preparation for the big meeting...

The Princess and the Pea Test.

Written by [Kaeirdwyn], Kristie L. Baker, more writings can be found at http://elfwood.lysator.liu.se/libr/k/a/kaeirdwyn/kaeirdwyn.html

Her name was Princess Inestacia. She had beautiful hair that shimmered with blond highlights over reddish brown loose curls. Her upturned nose dared not have a single freckle on it, for she was a princess of the most royal kind. Her small, petite body was perfect, curvaceous, and lithe. When her eyes lit up with joy, the people could not look elsewhere for her beauty and spark were undeniable. There was no comparison to her in the least. There was only one thing missing from her perfect life...
