Werecreatures are cursed people that on a full moon change to the werecreature that they are. The most commonly known of werecreatures are werewolves, but there are also many other werecreatures, including werebears and werefoxes. One can become a werecreature if one is bitten by a werecreature and survives the attack. There is no known cure for being a werecreature. They fit into the undead category as people who are werecreatures do sort of become immortal; they can only be killed by a silver bullet to the heart, though a silver arrow or sword will work as well.

The full-moon is only one of the catalysts of transformation. Anger, fear, pain, and conscious choice are also reasons for transformation. "Werewolves" are not that common in folklore or mythology. Myths about werecats, werefoxes, weredolphins, and werehyenas are much more commonly found in any part of the world. The biting thing is a blatant lie started by Universal Pictures for "The Wolf Man". Getting cursed by a sorcerer, being a sorcerer, or wearing an enchanted article of clothing(like a wolf-belt) are practically the only ways to become a werecreature that are mentioned in folklore or mythology. Werewolves, mythologically speaking, are not immortal. They normally show up in the forms of real creatures and are very difficult to identify. Because they are hard to identify, they are hard to kill. Suspected werecreatures were often beheaded with a double-edged sword during the Inquisition days. There are also many spells crafted hundreds of years ago to ward off werecreatures.

A Common name for the curse of becoming a werecreature is known as Lycanthrope ('Lie-can-thro-pee'), and such a curse is commonly cured by the Remove Curse spell. Lycanthrope is not specific to wolves or similar animals. It can occur with many different animals, though only one form is chosen for each person cursed.

Sometimes a creature's true form is not its animal or human form, but a hybrid, such as the case of the Jackalwere. Often, in this case, the 'were' portion of the name is brought to AFTER the animal portion, to denote that this creature is not the typical lycanthrope cursed shifter. These are magical beast humanoids.

2008-04-06 [Linn Scarlett]: mind you, werecreatures don't persay change with the full moon, where as lycanthropes do. :O

2008-09-13 [Artsieladie]: *whistles & strolls in* Hm-hm-hm. Wowee! I'm working on the ECM Werewolf Session. I'm just learning all kinds of neat stuff. :) So many different kinds of Werecreatures! Question is, do I set up individual sessions, one session for each kind that can all run simultaneously, or try to include all types in one Werewolf session? *wonders* If I set up a session for each, then I can set up and put them under an ECM Werecreature page... if that's ok with [Hedda]. :) If we go with individual sessions, we would stand a better chance at getting a wider variety of Werecreatures, which I think would be the best if the goal is to have the best and most informative creature pages on the net. :P

2008-09-13 [Linn Scarlett]: I'd say werecreatures, but a werewolf one seperate, as it's vastly popular beyond other werecreatures, but i wouldnt want to exclude werecreatures other than werewolves completely. If you see my point

2008-09-13 [Artsieladie]: I get ya. :) I would definitely like to see a wide variety. I think the many different types would be marvelous, which I doubt we would get if we go with just Werewolves and Werecreatures, because we are bound to get just the most popular envisioned types. :P I realise going for the many different types would include many 'art' pages (don't think we'd need separate poetry and text), but this I would have no problem with. Anything to help reach the intended goal, I'm more than happy to do. :)

2008-09-13 [Artsieladie]: I still think we should run another Dragon session to include a wider variety of dragons and dragon types. If the goal is to offer the most informative pages on the net, then the goal should be to include MORE than what can be found in most other places on the net. It just seems so to me anyway. By placing limitations on what we include with each, I think this defeats the ultimate purpose/goal of this ECM project. :P

2008-09-13 [Artsieladie]: Are there any other outstanding types of Elves besides the Drow? :P

2008-09-14 [Linn Scarlett]: Well I see all types of elves as equally outstanding as the Drow, but I suppose Drow are the most well known subtype. All though there is no such thing as 'the typical elf' as the race as a whole is comprised of subraces such as the Moon Elves, Sun Elves, Drow, High Elves, Wood Elves etc <- this is only a small part of the DnD elves alone, it will undoubtly become even more if you take in say, LotR and Dragonlance and Warhammer, who all have elves as well

2008-09-14 [Linn Scarlett]: And not all are easily put together, as the Dark Elves of Warhammer are nothing like the Drow (well not in appearance at least, though uncannily alike in doings) and the Dark Elves of Dragonlance look what like Drow but aren't nearly as evil. So it would be difficult to compile them all into a set of subtypes, if you'd wish.

2008-09-20 [Artsieladie]: Hmm.. yeah, all of these types are what I'd like to see shown on the final page, Elves. I think the more variety, the more information, the better the chance of having the 'most informative' Elves' page on the net, which is the goal of this ECM project. ;P

2008-09-21 [Linn Scarlett]: it would be an herculian job to do so, though

2008-09-22 [Artsieladie]: Hmm... true, but still I think the effort would be well worth it, if the ultimate goal is reached. I wish I knew more about all of these creatures. I've been learning as we go along, but this doesn't help much for 'in the future'. :P

2008-09-23 [Linn Scarlett]: I don't think I'd ever find time to pore all my bits and pieces on elves into one single uber page >.>'

2008-09-23 [Artsieladie]: *dreams of an uber page for elves* Even if each of the different types of elves could be represented with some info about each and then link each to a page about that type? 'Course getting the viewers to get a burning, itching, irresistible urge or desire to click on sub-links, would be a feat in and of itself, because unless additional links are really irresistible, people have a tendency to simply move on. 'Course we could always make titles like "Sexy Wood Elves", but then we would have to make sure we did in fact have 'sexy wood elves'. hehe ha! We wouldn't want to disappoint the viewers, especially since they made the 'effort' to click. ;P

2008-09-24 [Linn Scarlett]: "Erotic Elves.com" always sounded quite fancy to me *wonders if it exists, probably as she's aware of a site featuring the HP Death Eaters, and if thát is out there than no doubt...* ANYWAY. I might be inclined to do it if I find some good sources on Elves and thinker out a way of organizing the whole jumble into a semblance of something one can work with. But I don't know if it's worth what with the ELF ECM and the page getting changed anyway.
