Save a life. Donate blood.

<Rimg:stuff/blooddonor.gif>

Right at this very moment, there are people in need of a blood transfusion. Thousands of litres of blood are required for different operations every day all over the world, and that blood must come from somewhere. More specifically, someone. Millions of someones willing to give up a half a litre every now and then for the good of their fellow humans. Please be one of those people.

There are some limitations to who can donate; diseases and conditions that prevent many people from doing this deed regardless of their own will. But those of you who can... Please, save a life. Donate.

2007-07-08 [sequeena_rae]: I'm not a donor, I'm scared :(

But I am donating my organs...>.>

2007-07-08 [nokaredes]: I can do that, right? o_O

2007-07-08 [nokaredes]: *le sigh* The last two times I went in to donate, my iron count was too low. And soon, I might be joining the military, and I might be leaving the country, and then I won't be allowed to donate any more...

2007-07-08 [sequeena_rae]: I added a link for you Lami ;)

[nokaredes]; You're not allowed to donate blood in the army? :(

2007-07-08 [nokaredes]: No, it's not that. It's that all the blood-donation paperwork says that if someone trying to donate blood has been outside the U.S., Canada, or Britain for three or more years, they're not allowed to donate. So if I join the military, and I get shipped out, and have a service contract of 3+ years, that'll be the end of me being allowed to donate...

2007-07-09 [sequeena_rae]: Ah :/ That seems a bit mean

2007-07-10 [Linderel]: It's because of all the various diseases a person can be subjected to :S They don't want to take any risks.
The first time I went to donate, I had enough iron, but then they aborted because I told about my growth hormone treatment. That was cleared, fortunately, and I was allowed to go and miraculously my iron was still high enough (miraculously because there's a tendency for anemia in the females of this family) and I got to donate... The hormone that was used was entirely artificial, and therefore safe, but had I been treated before 1990 there would have been a risk of Creutzfeldt-Jacob's... <_<
*phew* That was long. Anyways. Thanks for the link Squee :D

2007-07-10 [sequeena_rae]: Jeez, I don't even know how to pronouce that diease...>.>
You're welcome! *glomp*

2007-07-10 [Linderel]: Essentially, mad cow :P
*lublub*

2007-07-10 [sequeena_rae]: Mad cow disease? Shit, you really don't want that O_O

2007-07-10 [Linderel]: Yeah, the definition isn't very attractive. But before the year 1990, human-based hormone was used for growth hormone treatment. Luckily my treatment began in '91 or '92...

2007-07-10 [sequeena_rae]: That's good *hugs*

2007-07-10 [Linderel]: *snuggle* <3

2007-10-29 [Sunrose]: Maybe some day I'll do this, I support the cause anyway :)

2007-10-29 [Linderel]: Omg, life :D

2007-11-04 [Sunrose]: =P
